by Brandon J. Weichert {spectator.org} ~ commie-Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has made fighting the supposedly damaging effects of anthropogenic climate change — Global Warming — her cause célèbre... Under the guise of “environmental justice,” commie-Cortez’s Green New Deal called for a sweeping program of infrastructure reform to make the United States more environmentally friendly; the Green New Deal advocated for the abandonment of fossil fuels in favor of “renewable” sources of energy, such as solar and wind energy. Also, the Green New Deal denied funding for carbon capture technology. Yet, even by environmentalist standards, the impracticality of the Green New Deal borders on the farcical — and that’s according to the co-founder of Greenpeace! Fact is, the Green New Deal as championed by commie-AOC is less about bettering human existence and more about punishing America for its evil ways at least as the Left perceives the United States. Let’s start off by addressing what anthropogenic climate change is, since there is a continuing debate over definitions. Essentially, Climate Change proponents worry that the increased output of greenhouse gases — carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone — by our industrialized civilization over the last 269 years has caused a net warming of the planet. As this has occurred, according to the Leftist narrative, polar ice caps have melted at faster-than-usual rates, threatening humanity with higher-than-normal sea levels. Hurricanes and other routine weather have become catastrophic. Essentially, the Left believes that humanity’s modern technology has destabilized the environment. Unless drastic action is taken soon, the planet will effectively become uninhabitable. But, if human pollution, like that of CO2 emissions, is causing harm to the planet, would not the development of carbon capture technology be an important step toward mitigating the pollution? According to commie-AOC, the technology is “not feasible.” Don’t tell that to a research team at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, though! Back in February of this year this group developed a new technique for carbon capture using a liquid metal electrolysis method, “effectively converting CO2 from a gas into solid particles of carbon.” Writing in the scientific journal, Nature Communications, the researchers claim their carbon capture method “offers an alternative pathway for safely and permanently removing CO2 from the atmosphere.”...

Muslims Try to Plant Another
Mosque on Temple Mount
by Tsvi Sadan {israeltoday.co.il} ~ The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court has ordered the state to immediately shut the Bab el-Rahma structure that is facing the Golden Gate, or Gate of Mercy... A month ago, the Islamic Trust (Waqf) that oversees the Temple Mount decided to reopen the structure and turn it into yet another mosque, the fifth atop Judaism's holiest site. To recap, until 1967, there was only one active mosque, Al-Aqsa, on the Temple Mount. During the 1970s, the regular Friday prayers started to be conducted at the Dome of the Rock, until then only a sacred shrine. In 1996, the underground Solomon's Stables at the southwestern corner of the Temple Mount were turned into a third mosque, Al Marwani. The fourth was built also in the late 1990s, directly under the Al Aqsa Mosque, where Huldah Gate is located. And now, the fifth, Bab el Rahma, established in a building closed by court order 16 years ago after it became a center of Hamas activity. This latest attempt to establish yet another mosque opposite the Golden Gate is a response by the Jordanians and Palestinians to allegations that Israel is trying to alter the status quo at the Temple Mount. Since liberating the sacred plateau in 1967, Israel has committed itself to refraining from religious expressions at the site. This agreement was made by then-Defense Minister Moshe Dayan, who believed that for Jews, the Temple Mount was now nothing more than "a historical site," and that as such, "Arab customs as they are now 1967 practiced should not be disturbed and Muslim's right to control the place should be recognized." The practical outcome is that while Jews are allowed to visit, they must not pray at their own religion's most holy site. This status quo became part of the 1994 peace treaty between Israel and Jordan. But, perhaps not surprisingly, that's when things started to change...

Hamas War Crimes against Israel, Palestinians
by Bassam Tawil {gatestoneinstitute.org} ~ Hamas has again proved that it really is a terrorist group that oppresses its people and prevents them from expressing their opinions... It has also shown that when it is in trouble, it will do its utmost to divert attention from the problems it is facing at home. As far as Hamas is concerned, one of the best ways to divert attention from the growing frustration with its rule is by attacking Israel and Jews. Then, Israel is forced to respond to defend itself. That will allow Hamas to tell its people that there is no room for internal fighting and disputes "because we are under attack by the Jews." No Palestinian would dare to criticize Hamas while Israel is supposedly "attacking" Hamas. Anyone who did so would be accused of being a "traitor" and "collaborator" with the "Zionist enemy." That is exactly what happened this week, when two rockets were fired at the Israeli city of Tel Aviv. The rocket attack came shortly after thousands of Palestinians had taken to the streets of the Gaza Strip to protest the horrific economic situation there -- that funds intended for them had apparently been diverted to finance terrorism -- and demand an end to Hamas's repressive measures against its people. The leaders of Hamas were apparently disturbed by the large protests that took place in the Gaza Strip. Hamas leaders also seemed disturbed by the photos and videos showing Hamas members beating, shooting at and arresting hundreds of peaceful Palestinian protesters whose only "crime" was to demand a dignified life, jobs and a better future for their children...

and North Korea,
by Rebeccah Heinrichs, David Maxwell,
and Behnam Ben Taleblu
{fdd.org} ~ With the release this week of the administration’s fiscal year (FY) 2020 defense budget request... FDD and its Center on Military and Political Power hosted a breakfast conversation regarding the Iranian and North Korean ballistic missile threats, how the Department of Defense should respond, and what that means for the FY 2020 defense budget. The event featured Rebeccah Heinrichs, senior fellow at Hudson Institute; David Maxwell, senior fellow at FDD; and Behnam Ben Taleblu, senior fellow at FDD. The conversation was moderated by Bradley Bowman, senior director of FDD’s Center on Military and Political Power.
