Weak, Symbolic, Empty US Strike on Syria

He describes the strikes on Syria as “very weak.” That’s to be expected. Keane says that our response, in view of the fact that we already sent a message last year, “should have been decisive, it should have been consequential.” He says, “As a result of this strike, we still leave them with multiple chemical storage sites and production capabilities. We didn’t put a single glove on an airplane or a delivery system or an airfield.” Keane says, “Assad made this calculation. He’s trying to secure Damascus. He’s been fighting for it for months. Security camera footage captured a man with a large butcher knife chasing and stabbing Bishop Samaan Shehata—in the head, neck, and torso—in the streets of Cairo on October 12. According to eyewitnesses "the assailant had seen Shehata in his car, forcibly stopped him, ordered him out and then started to stab him in the neck and torso. Shehata fled, and the attacker followed him into the warehouse and finished his attack there with several blows to the head." Then, while standing over his victim, "the assailant used the bishop's blood to form a cross on his forehead." It took 90 minutes for an ambulance to arrive, and "the bishop was alive for half an hour after being struck and could have been saved if the ambulance had arrived timely." Some people acquainted with the murderer said that Ahmed Saeed Ibrahim had recently "begun praying in the street, shouting loudly and calling Christians infidels." As for a motive, one report said, "he had decided to kill any Coptic priest, purchased a dagger, and lay in wait for one to pass by, in a street leading to the local church." His father "is more of a terrorist than his son," added one woman; he "used to stop children on their way back from church and say, 'You are multiplying, may Allah destroy your houses and burn you all. { timesofisrael.com } ~ The Israel Defense Forces on Sunday announced it destroyed a sophisticated Hamas attack tunnel... leading from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory, over the weekend. The tunnel was the “longest and deepest” underground passage discovered in Israel thus far, according to Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman. It passed under the border in an area where Palestinian protesters have recently clashed with security forces, the army said. A military spokesman said the tunnel was dug by the Hamas terrorist group and was connected to a “kilometers-long” network of other passages under the Gaza Strip....
Western strikes won’t change the bloody course of Syrian history

In retaliation for a chemical weapons attack on civilians, the US Air Force fired 59 Tomahawk missiles at the regime-held Shayrat Airbase in Homs. Israeli leaders and analysts hailed the strike, arguing that even this limited use of force would change the course of history. Former US President Barack liar-nObama had declared the use of chemical weapons to be a “red line” but then did nothing when President Bashar Assad crossed it in 2013, with chemical weapons strikes near Damascus that killed 1,429 people. liar-nObama’s inaction — perceived as weakness — emboldened Syria, Iran, and other negative elements in the Middle East, many Israelis had long argued. Syrian media: Explosions at largest Iranian base in Syria
{ jpost.com } ~ Mixed and contradictory reports emerged from Syria Saturday night over a mystery blast that rocked an Iranian base located on the outskirts of Aleppo... The initial reports coming out of Syrian media was that the base was hit by unidentified aircraft, with some reports attributing the attack to Israel. Later, reports said that the explosion was caused by an accident at the facility. The Iranian base, located in the Jabal Azzan region south of Aleppo, is the largest in the country. Hezbollah media sources denied the reports and said that the explosions at the site resulted from explosives detonating in a warehouse....

In America, the Holocaust Is Losing Its Shock Factor
by Jordan Candler: Some Americans joined Israel and its allies Thursday in solemnly observing Holocaust Remembrance Day. To commemorate it, the White House issued a proclamation in which the president “hereby ask[s] the people of the United States to observe the Days of Remembrance of Victims of the Holocaust, April 12 through April 19, 2018, and the solemn anniversary of the liberation of Nazi death camps, with appropriate study, prayers and commemoration, and to honor the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and Nazi persecution by internalizing the lessons of this atrocity so that it is never repeated.” That last part — “so that it is never repeated” — is particularly noteworthy. We noted already that only some Americans commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day. As it turns out, the Holocaust is slowly losing its shock factor among Americans. According to The New York Times, “For seven decades, ‘never forget’ has been a rallying cry of the Holocaust remembrance movement. But a survey released Thursday, on Holocaust Remembrance Day, found that many adults lack basic knowledge of what happened — and this lack of knowledge is more pronounced among millennials, whom the survey defined as people ages 18 to 34.”
All told, 31% of Americans — a number that jumps 10 percentage points among Millennials — are under the impression that Jewish victims numbered about two million, which is one-third of the true total of six million. Furthermore, the Times reveals, “Forty-one percent of Americans, and 66 percent of millennials, cannot say what Auschwitz was. Only 39 percent of Americans know that Hitler was democratically elected.”
These revelations are partly due to anti-Jewish hostility, particularly on the Left. They’re also due to our failed education system, which glosses over certain aspects of history. Granted, the Times adds: “Despite the gaps in the respondents’ knowledge, the study found an overwhelming consensus — 93 percent — that all students should learn about the Holocaust at school. And Holocaust denial remains very rare in the United States, with 96 percent of respondents saying they believe the genocide happened.” But the lesson is clearly losing its weightiness. And the less impactful atrocities become, the less inclined people are to “never forget.”
That term also gets thrown around routinely when it comes to 9/11. But based on the vehement uproar leftists in America display when Republicans advocate policy prescriptions that would avert terrorist acts, it’s evident that the significance of that fateful day is also beginning to wane. That’s exactly how history repeats itself and how presumably safe societies end up, quite literally, on the ash heap of history. ~The Patriot Post
