{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ One of the White House impeachment lawyers, Robert Ray, sits down for an interview with Maria Bartiromo to discuss the impeachment trial... As customary with most high-profile defense team assemblies, it would appear there are three or four of the team who have been selected primarily to articulate the legal arguments in the media arena; while the co-lead counsels Cipollone & Sekulow focus on the trial detail and presentations therein.  https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2020/01/19/sunday-talks-white-house-impeachment-lawyer-robert-ray-interview-with-maria-bartiromo/

By ANNA AHRONHEIM
{ jpost.com } ~ A year after Operation Northern Shield destroyed six cross-border attack tunnels dug by Hezbollah, the Israeli army has begun deploying new sensors along the border with Lebanon... that are able to detect and identify any sounds of new digging by the terrorist group. IDF spokesman Brig.-Gen. Hidai Zilberman said that while there has been no new intelligence about new cross-border tunnels or new excavations, the new infrastructure will collect both acoustic and seismic data that will be used as a preventative measure, alerting the military to any new sounds of tunnel excavations.  The engineering project will begin near the community of Misgav Am on Sunday morning and will last several months. Zilberman stated that the project will continue over the coming year along the entire border based on intelligence, budget and situational needs. While the infrastructure will be laid within Israel’s borders, with the sounds of the IDF’s operation expected to be heard on both the Israeli and Lebanese side, the military wants to prevent a miscalculation on both sides. There will be no troop reinforcements as part of the project, Zilberman said. Both the UN Peacekeeping Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and regional authorities have been informed of the project. In December of last year, the IDF launched Operation Northern Shield to discover and destroy all cross-border tunnels dug by Hezbollah into northern Israel. While the military announced the end of the operation a month later after finding and destroying six tunnels, it noted that it “is simultaneously monitoring several locations where Hezbollah is digging underground structures which have yet to cross into Israel.”...  https://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/IDF-laying-new-infrastructure-to-detect-sounds-of-Hezbollah-digging-614595
California tells ranch owners, '
Your land is our land'

by wnd.com ~ The owners of the exotic 14,400-acre Hollister Ranch on the coast of California are suing the state for a host of alleged constitutional violations... after lawmakers adopted a statute that gives the state free access to the land.  Further, the lawmakers are claiming the right to punish anyone who "obstructs" or "impedes" that access. The Pacific Legal Foundation filed the complaint in U.S. District Court for the Central District. It's against Attorney General Xavier Becerra, Coastal Commission Executive Director John Ainsworth, State Lands Commission Executive Officer Jennifer Lucchesi  and several others. Explained PLF: "The law at issue, AB 1680, calls for an update to older state plans to create a public access way on private land on the 14,400-acre Hollister Ranch, which borders the Pacific coast. This general goal represents an outgrowth of 2018 legislation vetoed by Governor Jerry Brown, who recommended a sensible and fiscally responsible Ranch access update. Hollister Ranch did not oppose early versions of AB 1680 that sought to encourage an expanded public access plan and that set out reasonable deadlines for action." However, lawmakers amended the bill with "unexpected provisions that represent an overreach of the state's authority." The provisions also "run afoul of constitutional protections of due process and free speech and constitutional prohibitions of illegal search and seizure and the taking of private property without compensation," PLF said. For example, the state lawmakers approved allowing state agencies "to enter Hollister Ranch and to search and use all common areas, including those with employee housing, barns, and other structures, for the purpose of gathering data to be used to create public access across ranch lands." And the lawmakers demanded that "any 'action' taken by ranch owners or employees to 'impede' or 'delay' or 'obstruct' the state's search of the ranch or other efforts to create a public access plan on ranch land is a Coastal Act violation subject to tens of thousands of dollars in fines." PLF said the ranch's concerns with the provisions "were made clear to the bill author and to the Legislature immediately after they became public, and to the governor before he signed the bill, and in editorials and communications with the affected state agencies, but they were not heeded." "The California Coastal Commission has spent decades trying to turn private ranch lands into a public area without adequately respecting the private rights of those who live there, or its special and historical character as an area preserved from public damage and set aside for ranching," said David Breemer, a senior attorney at Pacific Legal Foundation, which is representing, pro bono, the Hollister Ranch Owners' Association and its 133 members...

by patriotpulse.net ~ President Donald Trump isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. He is willing to point out facts that other politicians are terrified to bring up... And he just exposed scumbag/liar-nObama’s link to a terrorist plot that could destroy America. Iran is the top state sponsor of terrorism in the world. They have engaged in attacks on U.S. troops, and planned attacks on U.S. soil. And President Trump pointed out that it was Barack scumbag/liaqr-nObama who sent $150 billion to Iran, adding that some of that money was used to attack U.S. military bases in Iraq this week. President Donald Trump blamed his predecessor, former President Barack scumbag/liaqr-nObama, on Wednesday for funding the missiles Iran launched against the United States. “The missiles fired last night at us and our allies were paid for with the funds made available by the last administration,” Trump said, referring to the $150 billion returned to the Tehran regime under scumbag/liar-nObama as part of the Iran nuclear deal. Iran launched more than a dozen military missiles on Tuesday, targeting American bases in Iraq as a military response to Trump’s decision to kill Iranian Quds force commander Qasem Soleimani last week. Trump said that Iran’s hostilities in the Middle East only increased after scumbag/liar-nObama’s “foolish” 2013 nuclear deal, noting that Iran used the funds to back a campaign of terror around the world. “Iran went on a terror spree, funded by the money from the deal, and created hell in Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and Iraq,” he said. In 2016, then-Secretary of State hanoi-John Kerry acknowledged that some of the billions returned to Iran could end up being used for terrorist activities. “I think that some of it will end up in the hands of the IRGC or other entities, some of which are labeled terrorists,” he said in a CNBC interview in January 2016. scumbag/liar-nObama’s Secretary of State hanoi-John Kerry was well aware the money was going to fund terrorism. He admitted as much when sending the money. Yet, scumbag/liar-nObama still allowed it to be sent to them in order to appease the nation that hates us, and wants to wipe Israel off the face of the earth.  https://patriotpulse.net/trump-just-exposed-obamas-link-to-a-terrorist-plot-that-could-destroy-america/#gf_1344
SpaceX to Try Rocket Failure Test

by ijr.com ~ Elon Musk’s SpaceX will try again on Sunday to destroy one of its own rockets in a test of a crucial emergency abort system... a day after bad weather forced the company to delay its final milestone test before flying NASA astronauts from U.S. soil. High winds and choppy seas in the area where the spacecraft was expected to splash down on Saturday delayed the dramatic inflight test of the unmanned astronaut capsule to Sunday, with a longer six-hour launch window starting at 8 a.m. ET (1300 GMT). NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said on Twitter on Sunday morning that SpaceX was targeting a 10 a.m. (1500 GMT) launch time from Cape Canaveral in Florida. SpaceX also tweeted this. If the test goes ahead, SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule, an acorn-shaped pod that can seat seven astronauts, will fire thrusters to detach itself from a Falcon 9 rocket less than two minutes after liftoff, simulating an emergency abort scenario to prove it can return astronauts to safety. The test is crucial to qualify the capsule to fly humans to the International Space Station, something the National Aeronautics and Space Administration expects to come as soon as mid-2020. It follows years of development and delays as the United States has sought to revive its human spaceflight program through private partnerships. NASA awarded $4.2 billion to Boeing and $2.5 billion to SpaceX in 2014 to develop separate capsule systems capable of ferrying astronauts to the space station from U.S. soil for the first time since NASA’s space shuttle program ended in 2011. The space agency has since relied on Russian spacecraft for rides to the space station. During the test the Falcon 9 rocket’s boosters will shut down roughly 12 miles (19 km) above the ocean, a mock failure that will trigger Crew Dragon’s so-called SuperDraco thrusters to jet itself away at supersonic speeds of up to 1,500 miles per hour (2,400 kph). The capsule will deploy three parachutes to slow its descent to the water, and will carry aboard two human-shaped test dummies fitted with motion sensors to collect data on the immense g-force — the effect of acceleration on the body — astronauts would be subjected to during abort. The test was originally scheduled for mid-2019 but was delayed after a Crew Dragon capsule exploded in April on a test stand just before firing its launch abort thrusters, triggering a lengthy investigation. SpaceX-led investigators in July zeroed in on a previously unknown explosive reaction between a titanium valve and a propellant used to ignite the thrusters. A SpaceX official said the company completed the investigation within the last week.   https://ijr.com/spacex-rocket-failure-test-again-after-bad-weather-delay/
NBC News Argues That
Voting For Trump Is Unconstitutional

by Joe Newby And Jeff Dunetz
{ lidblog.com } ~ An op-ed published Friday by NBC News actually argues that voting for Trump is unconstitutional since white voters are supposedly motivated in part by racism... Of course, the premise of the fact-free op-ed would have to significantly improve to be ridiculous. “If the Trump era has taught us anything, it’s that large numbers of white people in the United States are  motivated at least in part by racism in the voting booth. Donald Trump ran an openly racist campaign for president, calling Mexicans rapists and criminals,  regularly retweeting white supremacists and at least initially balking at repudiating former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke,” Noah Berlatsky incorrectly argued. “Trump made it clear in his campaign that ‘Make America Great Again’ meant that America was greater when white people’s power was more sweeping and more secure,” he falsely claimed. “White voters approve of that message by a whopping 58 percent to 37 percent.” He did? I must have missed that part. Everyone missed that part since it never happened.  Some politicians deny the evidence, no doubt because they don’t want to alienate white voters, including prejudiced ones. Other commentators try to parse whether Trump’s racism will be a winning strategy in 2020. Terry Smith, a visiting professor at the University of Baltimore School of Law, offers a different response in his new book, “Whitelash: Unmasking White Grievance at the Ballot Box.” Rather than excuse racist voters or try to figure out how to live with their choices, he argues that racist voting is not just immoral, but illegal. The government, Smith says, has the ability, and the responsibility, to address it.  This sounds radical. But Smith argues that it’s in line with the Constitution and with years of court rulings. For example, Smith points out that racist appeals in union elections are illegal and that an election in which one side uses racist appeals can be invalidated by the National Labor Relations Board. Similarly, in the 2016 case Peña v. Rodriguez, the Supreme Court ruled that when a juror expresses overt bigotry, the jury’s verdict should be invalidated. Translation: If you’re a white conservative who supports Trump, you’re automatically a racist and should not be allowed to vote because some pinhead professor says so. There’s more to this flaming pile of stupid,  but you get the point...  https://lidblog.com/nbc-voting-trump-unconstitutional/
Amity Shlaes's Verdict on the
Great Society: Not That Great

By Nicholas J. Kaster
{ americanthinker.com } ~ Seldom in history has a program been undertaken with such lofty intentions and ended in such bitter disappointment as Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society.”... In her latest book Great Society: A New History, Amity Shlaes provides a fresh appraisal of the idealistic policies that came to define the 1960s and a historical narrative that is especially timely now. Shlaes’ book is a follow-up to The Forgotten Man, her excellent history of the Great Depression. This book is an apt sequel, since the Great Society was promoted as the completion of the “unfinished business” of the New Deal. However, there was a significant difference between the two programs. The New Deal originated in response to a severe economic crisis. In contrast, the Great Society was enacted at a time of economic prosperity, when poverty rates were dropping. Indeed, as Shlaes makes clear, it was the very prosperity and confidence of the postwar years that made the Great Society possible. “Compared to overcoming a Great Depression or conquering Europe and Japan,” Shlaes writes, “eliminating poverty or racial discrimination had to be easy. American society was already so good…This good society had to become, in the words of President Johnson, a Great Society.” Shlaes begins the book by discussing Bonanza, a TV western that premiered on January 2, 1960. It was an entirely new kind of Western, as Shlaes describes: “Heretofore, Westerns treated the single gunslinger’s efforts to make his fortune, whether by staking a claim to land or at the card table. By 1960, however, the story of one loner striking it rich lacked allure. Americans nowadays routinely became prosperous. It was time,  Bonanza’s creator, David Dortort, determined, to transcend ‘the myth of the lone gunfighter.’ Bonanza therefore featured not one but four main characters: a patriarch… and his sons…The important thing, Bonanza’s first episodes suggested, was what a man, family, or community did with a bonanza. You had to protect your bonanza from the bad guys. You had to spend your bonanza carefully… You had to tend to your bonanza. Most importantly, you had to share your bonanza, and teach others how to earn and share … The wealth part, that initial bonanza, was a given.” In Shlaes’ telling, Bonanza was a reflection of the mindset that prevailed in America in the early 1960s. John Kenneth Galbraith, whose book The Affluent Society had captivated America’s intelligentsia, argued that America had now solved the problem of producing goods, but lacked a sufficiently strong “public sector” to ensure that wealth was distributed “equitably.” Early on, Shlaes tells us, Johnson was contemplating spending a billion dollars on poverty an enormous amount at that time, but that sum was dismissed by one advisor as “nickels and dimes.” After LBJ’s massive electoral victory in 1964, the programs were rolled out at a frenetic pace. By the end of the decade, federal spending on social programs had, for the first time, exceeded spending on defense, which itself was at heightened levels due to the Vietnam War. And the pace continued under Nixon. “Total annual entitlement outlays,” Shlaes reminds us, “grew 20 percent faster under the Republican Nixon than under President Johnson, the Democrat.”...  https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2020/01/amity_shlaes_verdict_on_the_great_society_not_that_great.html

China Trade Deal: A Big Win
AX7E-R2UbdvckzDHiXztJ0PrsBebykPkX60JtYcR_I4608MD076l3V9DM56LXG126QqiqyjwJU4uLeHIHNWELSuFmJDr00xxfT1wi2BFE5pmvYMjSPdiSp0pm81qJSNJCuQoXzac3cPEsCeA3dLfufo3Acxlxes=s0-d-e1-ft#%3Ca%20rel%3Dnofollow%20href= Gary Bauer

Yesterday, the United States and China signed a new trade deal, resulting in a pause in the trade war. In spite of predictable negative press coverage, this is a huge win for the Trump administration and the country.

According to various reports, China has agreed to buy an additional $200 billion of U.S. products — from agricultural goods to energy products — all of which will be good for American farmers, businesses, and manufacturers. In addition, China also agreed to end intellectual property theft and currency manipulation.

It is understandable that many people might be skeptical of China’s promises. That’s why the deal is only “phase one” of ongoing negotiations and is fully enforceable based on China’s compliance.

What did we give up in exchange for China’s new commitments? Very little.

According to The Wall Street Journal, President Trump agreed to reduce “the existing 15% tariff rate on roughly $120 billion of Chinese goods… But tariffs will remain on roughly $360 billion of annual Chinese imports to the U.S."

In addition, other areas of conflict with China, from national security threats to human rights and religious liberty issues, will continue.

Ending America’s Decline

Former White House adviser Steve Bannon put it well when he told CNBC yesterday that President Trump’s aggressive trade strategy has stopped "the managed decline of the United States."

For many years, under administrations of both parties, but especially on the left, there has been a growing sense of America being in inevitable decline. Sadly, a lot of people (again, mostly on the left) are okay with that because they think America is evil and the source of problems around the world.

But it translated into real problems for many Americans as their jobs were sacrificed on the altar of free trade and globalism.

When Donald Trump said he wanted to rebuild America’s manufacturing base, Barack scumbag/liar-nObama  mocked him and said those jobs aren’t coming back. Well, scumbag/liar-nObama was wrong.

Remember those on the right who laughed at Trump’s notion of a border wall? They said, "You can’t shut the border! And why would you want to?"

Remember all the experts who predicted the death of the nation-state, suggesting that the ancient passions of patriotism were causing nothing but problems, while singing the praises of globalism?

This is why Trump’s mantra of "Make America Great Again” so outraged the political establishments of both parties. And it is a good catchall phrase for his efforts to end “the managed decline of the United States.”

I remember serving in the White House when President Ronald Reagan was constantly being told that America had to accommodate the Soviet Union. Thank God Reagan rejected that terrible advice. He had tremendous confidence in the American people, and he had a simple motto: “We win, they lose.” Today the Soviet Union is gone.

For years we’ve been told that China is the rising power in the world today, that we can’t outcompete China and should just accept its theft of our technology and its expansionist designs in the Pacific. This president rejects that. He also has a simple motto: “Make America Great Again.”

China is signing this deal because it needs food and energy. And guess where it is going to get it? And Trump rightly is keeping most tariffs in place to ensure that China complies with the deal.

Hopefully, Beijing understands that “business as usual” is over in Washington, that this administration won’t turn a blind eye to abusive trade practices. If it does, the “phase two” talks should go well.

A Striking Contrast

The president had a major rally in Wisconsin Tuesday night as the Democrats had a major debate in Iowa. The simultaneous events should have been aired on a split screen because you couldn’t come up with a more striking contrast between competing visions for America. It’s hard to believe they were talking about the same country!

In Iowa, the Democrat candidates were bemoaning that we have no allies, suggesting that we are isolated against Iran.

In Wisconsin, the president celebrated our successful strike against Iran’s terror general and praised the courageous people of Iraq and Iran who are taking to the streets to protest the mullahs.

In Iowa, the Democrat candidates were downplaying the economy. But come Wednesday, November 4th, just about the only unemployed Americans will be failed Democrat presidential candidates! (Granted, that’s a lot of people.)

While the president was talking about the future of the country, loose lips liar-Joe Biden and his fellow Democrats were arguing about the Iraq War and what transpired during a private conversation between commie-Sanders and dinky/liar-Warren.

It was literally a “he said / she said” moment. But in the #MeToo era, we’re always supposed to believe the woman, and clearly the CNN moderator did!

I could go on, but you get the point. Even many liberals noticed too.

Progressive CNN commentator Van Jones described Tuesday night’s Democrat debate as “cold oatmeal,” saying, “There was nothing I saw tonight that would be able to take Donald Trump out.”

One media outlet dedicated to covering Hollywood and the entertainment industry blasted the debate as the "Dull Night Of The Living Dead.“ Ouch!

Even MSNBC's left-wing "Morning Joe” hosts panned the debate as “painful,” adding, “Nobody looked good on the debate stage.”

liar-Pelosi’s Prosecutors

Speaker liar-Nancy Pelosi yesterday announced the members of her caucus who will serve as “managers,” or prosecutors, during the Senate impeachment trial. The lead manager is Rep. scumbag/liar-Adam Schiff (D-CA), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. The other managers are:

  • Rep. scumbag liar-Jerry Nadler (D-NY), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee

  • Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), chairman of the House Administration Committee

  • Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), chairman of the House Democratic Caucus

  • Rep. Val Demings (D-FL), a member of the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees

  • Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO), a member of the House Armed Services Committee

  • Rep. Sylvia Garcia (D-TX), a member of the House Judiciary Committee

Some preliminary measures are expected to take place today with the swearing in of Chief Justice John Roberts. The actual impeachment trial will most likely begin Tuesday, when all 100 senators will be required to sit at their desks without their iPhones or other electronic devices.

The process has been a sham from the beginning, but it has not stopped the president from moving aggressively to fulfill the promises he made in 2016.
