2010 was a landmark year for health care in the United States and at our Company. At GE,we started

the year with a new health care plan for salaried employees in response to unsustainable cost

increases, the first new plan since 1989. At about $3 billion annually, you can understand how health

care costs impact GE'scompetitiveness.

While there are some things we can change, there are others that are outside of our control. Health

care costs in the U.S.have been increasing over the past several years at two-to-three times the rate of

inflation due to price increases, greater use of services, and inefficiencies in the system. GEhas

experienced similar results over the past decade and the challenge we face continues to build.

The new Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act adopted earlier this year provides health care

access to all Americans and it also expands coverage for you as outlined in the attached guide. This

law will be phased in over several years. New benefits like offering preventive care screenings as

recommended by the U.S.Preventive Services Task Force free of charge, extending coverage to

dependent children up to age 26 and removing lifetime maximums will cost GEmore. However, there is

much to learn about how the implementation will unfold. GEhas the right to pass these costs on to you

. in the form of higher contributions, but we've elected to absorb these additional costs this year as we

take time to understand the impacts.

During the past year, we hope you have taken a more active role managing your health and health

care. We have been making investments to help you by adding and expanding tools. These include:

• Expanded Health Coach hours to include 24/7 voluntary and confidential access to medical

professionals to help you make informed decisions like when to use the emergency room;

• A new online and mobile application, Health Answers, to give you better access to information

when you need it; and

• Free,easy-to-use, voluntary and confidential tools like the Health RiskQuestionnaire and

Lifestyle Coaching to help you understand your health and take steps to be healthier.

We know you want a good health care plan at a fair price. We share that goal, and are working hard

every day to provide access to high-quality health care, control costs and offer a competitive benefits

  • Also , Phil you may look into as many are, canceling you health insurance for a few years, 1400 a month or more is a lot, and health care can be paid directly, it can also be negotiated and shopped. My thought on that is insurance will not treat your preexisting and if your wife is in good health, putting your funds in an alternative investment over the next couple of years until we know what is going to happen may be wise. I am only giving you support in my thinking, i hope the best fro you.
  • I can defiantly feel your passion on the subject and you just want something to work as we all do, in hearing you argument against competition on insurance companies, you are very narrow in your scope of just what competition dose for the customer, but enough on that, it has always been rejected by Democrats that know better. You said you would prefer to tweak Obama Care, by the time you get done tweaking the bill, it is back to where we were, which yes that at least it was Constitutional, now you can tweak that by opening borders for Competition, much less costly and very promising of an improvement in Health Care without bankrupting the Country. So far you are for Obama Care and feel it's your hope to care as you have a preexsisting problem, now your insurance is sky rocketing. The reality is Obama Care will never work, and it is costing us valueble time to fix our health care system and what we can do it im my opionion and for your sake and many others, is repeal Obama care, open borders, for competion forcing Ins. to provide a better product at competitive prices, as well Fair Tax and abolish the IRS, 67000 pages of tax code, forcing a drain of funds on the entire sytem just to provide accounting, as well as massive fraud. Some things sound to good to be true, the only chance of keeping this heath care system is the end of incomb tax and implament The Fair Tax Mike Huckabee is suggesting. To eliminate fraud, massive loss of dollars. We must rain in spending as well.
  • Hi, Phil you call the insurance companies evil, you say all politicians want is a way to be elected, not really seeking answers, and you discount the very thing that would bring results (competition.) John McCain ran for office on open boarders, and many of us have said it for years, and I for one am not running for office. Competition compels companies to use those "evil profits"your concerned with to make changes in improved technologies and communications, inspires them to cut down the theft that is wide spread in the medical industry that charges the "evil" insurance companies, and pushes insurance companies to offer more preventative medicine and possibly preexisting as well. Now they probably won't cover kids until they are 26 under a parents policy, but they aren't in the business of buying votes either. Now here's what I say repeal Obama care, and for now raise the kids eligibility to vote age to 26 as well. The Constitution of The United States dose not guarrentee any of us to have free health care, and to insist on it, just detierates the possibilities, get Government out let compition in, leap of faith, people don't have that anymore.
  • Republicans purposed changes in the insurance market will decrease cost, and increase coverage it is an amazing thing to watch when government gets out of the way companies can compete, and the competition provides for more access as they can compete to present more appealing packages and naturally prices are part of that competition. Now because there are no Unions involved if the Republicans can repeal the current act, the responsiveness of completion in the insurance world will be quick and very rewarding, unlike an auto industry that is held hostage from unions, and then black mails the tax payers of the country, and well that effects all those that don't pay tax as well.
