Recently my stance on illegal immigration has come into question. Some have thought I have forgotten how this wonderful country of ours was founded. After all, if you are not an American Indian, you or your ancestors are or were immigrants.
Around the turn of the century 1899/1900 all four of my grandparents immigrated to the United States from Italy. They did not have work visas or immigration papers so they were put on Ellis Island, New York. They had to wait there until they could prove their worth to the U.S. In other words, they had to show they had a trade, they had to sign papers promising they would become U.S. Citizens, etc. While they were waiting, they had to pull their own weight on the island. Their shirts were stenciled with the letters WOP (with out papers). They were doused with lice powder and basically stored until there was room for them on the immigration rosters. That’s right, rosters. There used to be a quota of immigrants allowed from each country per year. They were very grateful for the chance to become citizens of this wonderful country. Soon, they were allowed to enter society. They were sponsored and got jobs. They married and had children, my parents. They learned to read and write English. They became citizens and were VERY proud of that. They made sure their children could speak fluent English before they ever went off to school.
Now that you understand how I feel about immigrants, let us get back to illegal immigration. Why is that a problem? Here are some things to ponder. Every city has laws controlling how many people are allowed to live in a single family residence. There are even building codes stating that there is only one kitchen sink allowed per household just to make sure only one family lives there. There are laws controlling how many cats or dogs you are allowed per household. Why you ask? To make sure the people living in those houses and the animals living in those houses have enough room, resources, sanitary conditions, etc. to live healthy lives and keep disease from spreading out of control. What does that have to do with immigration? Every country has an infrastructure. These include schools, law enforcement, doctors, hospitals, etc. The infrastructure is paid for and sized for the legal citizens of a country. When there are more people taking from this infrastructure than put into it, it becomes overtaxed. Schools become over crowded. Health care goes down, etc. These are just some of the reasons a country needs to control immigration, not to mention making sure criminals, terrorists, etc. do not get in.
The problem has become a travesty due to rampant disregard for this country’s welfare and laws by politicians whose only agenda is increasing their voter base.

I'm all for limiting suffrage based on several things
Paying taxes [actually being a net tax payer]
Being fluent in English and having at least a high school education
Having worked and earned your own income [no 2nd generation guilt money]
Might even put a military service requirement in there too.
The real basic , underlying , " foundational " problem that we have in our political system was forseen by the founders . It was that the voting population had to be politically literate . This is the main reason that there was such insistence on an education for the young .
The reason that we are in the situation that we're in is that ignorant unlicensed peoplec are allowed to influence the direction of cultural evolution . If you desire to practice law , medicine , plumbming , electrical work , barbering , beautician , operate equipment , car , bus , motorcycle , fly an airplane , chiropractic , massge therapy etc ,etc . I don't know how many things require professional ,occupational require a license yet we allow uneducated , ignorant ,. mentally handicapped and criminals to influence the direction of our country .
Look at the character and quality of the people supposedly serving in our government . Are'nt they generally a disaster ? It's no wonder ! Look at the quality , maturity and character of those allowed to vote . You wonder how they got there ? What are you , an idiot . We need a political literacy test given before the election in every election year that must be passed before one is given a temporary permit to vote in that election year only . Only then will we prevent our constitutional republican form of government from being destroyed . Only then will this nation stand a chance of surviving !
All you say is true but you never address the underlying issues !
What are those issues ?
Socialism and public services provided by government funding.
Back in 1900 folks coming here wanted an opportunity to work and build a life based on their own hard work.
Today some of the folks who come here want a hand out and to be provided for [not all of them] but enough to cause the problem, and the democrats and all progressives in Washington are willing to give it to them using other peoples money.
The answer is not immigration control !
The answer is to end the welfare state for all.
Why should a teenaged woman have 2 or 3 children and live on welfare ? Because of middle class guilt at her situation ! that is stupid and adding to the problem.
Anchor babies ... Why is birth location tied to citizenship ?
Why should a teen who was brought here as a small child be given citizenship when the parents were here illegally to begin with?
So IF I steal your car and maintain it for a year I get to keep it?
