VOTERS SAY HILLY LIED ON LIBYA, BUT SPLIT ON PROBE In the latest Fox News poll, negative sentiment about Hilly Clinton’s honesty about the Benghazi attack hits a new high. Sixty percent of those polled do not believe Clinton has been honest about the State Department’s role in the attack that killed four Americans in 2012, but that doesn’t mean they want anyone to do anything about it. The poll shows a split when it comes to continuing the congressional investigation. Fifty percent say it’s time to move on, while 46 percent say they should keep investigating, nearly unchanged from July.

The Disastrous Effects of Sanctuary Cities
{leanrightamerica.org} ~ Americans were outraged at the story of Kate Steinle, a young woman senselessly murdered in San Francisco by an illegal immigrant who’s been deported several times... The outrage came from San Francisco’s status as a so-called sanctuary city and their refusal to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. If they had, there’s a good chance Steinle would be alive today. If a new report from the Center for Immigration Studies has it right, though, these sanctuary cities have a long history of endangering Americans. Judicial Watch used numbers from the CIS to present some tragic findings. Among them, that the nation’s 340 sanctuary cities have released 9,295 illegal immigrants who should have been held in custody for Immigration and Customs Enforcement deportation. Worse, more than half of these offenders had priors on their records. Worst of all, more than 2,000 of these criminals were arrested again in the next eight months. Where are they now? Who knows? These numbers come along as the nObama administration moves forward with a plan to release 6,000 nonviolent federal inmates over the next few months. As part of an effort to thin out the prison population, the Justice Department is looking at federal drug offenders as the first likely candidates for release. But hidden inside that number is another one that has Republican lawmakers deeply concerned.

{Aparna Mathur} ~ Increasing tax rates on top earners is often considered a panacea for many social ills, but particularly for addressing the issue of income inequality... In their 2011 article, economists Peter Diamond and Emmanuel Saez made the case that in order to maximize social welfare, high income earners should face high and rising marginal tax rates on earnings and the earnings of low income families should be subsidized. They recommended that the socially optimal tax rate on high earners should be set between 50 to 70 percent. In another paper, Thomas Piketty and colleagues argue that in fact the top rate could be set above 80 percent in order to reduce income concentration at the top and help the bottom 99 percent. Thomas Piketty makes a similar point in his book, Capital in the Twenty-First Century, suggesting that the top rate should be over 80 percent on top incomes, and at 50 to 60 percent on incomes above $200,000. This should be combined with a global wealth tax. The implicit assumption is that by taxing high incomes, governments can raise more revenues which can then be used to redistribute money to the poor. Logically, this would suggest that high tax rates should reduce income inequality. However, a new analysis using a simulation model from the Tax Policy Center shows that such increases in the top tax rate are unlikely to make a dent in income inequality in any significant manner. If you're not on her payroll, or auditioning to get on it one day, or just painfully naive, you simply start from the assumption that Clinton is unencumbered by any principles that might prove inconvenient to her political ambitions.
