Libel Laws and Trump's Fight Against Fake News
by Political Editors:  In remarks that created quite a stir, President Donald Trump lamented the nation’s lack of strong libel laws as he once again leveled criticism against writer Michael Wolff over his book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House. Trump said, “We are going to take a strong look at our country’s libel laws so that when somebody says something that is false and defamatory about someone, that person will have meaningful recourse in our courts.” He continued, “Our current libel laws are a sham and a disgrace and do not represent American values and American fairness. We’re going to take a very, very strong look at that.”

Trump has taken a slightly different tack with this latest slamming of negative press, seemingly dropping the gauntlet with his call for review of the nation’s libel laws. It’s big talk, but it’s more bluster than business. First of all, Americans rightly enjoy the free speech protections of the First Amendment, the press included. Second, the law has set the bar high for any one to be found guilty of libel against a public official, and the mere spreading of false information certainly does not meet that standard. Third, Trump has no power to change laws, either federal or state. Finally, it’s a good bet that Trump already knows all this. So what is he aiming at?
Since day one, Trump has been in a battle with the mainstream media. He has regularly called them out for promulgating fake news, while the MSM itself has often accused fake news of having helped Trump win the election. With regularity, Trump has trolled the MSM, and in so doing has helped to expose more of its leftist bias. So it follows that this is merely another salvo in his ongoing war with the MSM. By threatening to send the law after Wolff, Trump is effectively blowing an MSM dog whistle, to which they will respond by jumping to Wolff’s defense. That leaves the MSM caught defending an author widely recognized for his own propensity to engage in stretching the truth. In other words, the MSM has been set up to once again be pilloried by Trump for their defense of fake news. Meanwhile, he has gone a long way in discrediting the book in the eyes of many Americans.

TRUMP Accuses FBI Dirty Cop
{} ~ Peter Strzok is emerging, along with the dossier he helped create... as the crack into which the wedge of truth is being inserted to reveal the acts of criminal political espionage being conducted by the FBI against President Trump and the citizens of America. Now President Trump has publicly and unmistakably called out the leftists. He said in a Thursday Wall Street Journal interview that Peter Strzok has committed “treason” by texting a DOJ attorney with whom he was having an extra-marital affair with anti-Trump, seditious messages involving the taking of actions to bring down the President. Peter Strzok was, among other things, the FBI agent who was the top “investigator” on Robert Mueller’s witch hunt team attempting to fabricate Trump – Russia collusion. He was one of those who headed the liar-Hillary Clinton get out of jail free project, interviewed liar-Clinton, sanitized the Comey exoneration letter and who interviewed Huma Abedin...
House Republicans Roll Out Immigration
Bill Packed With Border Security and Other Reforms
by Will Racke
{} ~ A group of Republican lawmakers Wednesday unveiled a bill that pairs granting legal status to younger illegal immigrants... with a laundry list of conservative immigration reforms and border security enhancements, including President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall. The proposal contains all of the changes to immigration law that Trump has demanded as part of a deal to replace the now-canceled Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, a liar-nObama administration order that shielded hundreds of thousands of younger illegal immigrants from deportation. It also incorporates several immigration enforcement measures long advocated by immigration hawks, including penalties for sanctuary cities and foreign nationals who overstay their visas...
‘Sneaky’ Fein-stein Blames
‘Bad Cold’ for Clouding Judgment
by Trey Sanchez
{} ~ On Wednesday, President Trump gave Sen. Dianne Fein-stein (D-CA) the new moniker “sneaky” because... she “unilaterally released the 312-page transcript of Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson’s August interview with Senate Judiciary Committee investigators,” according to Fox News. He took to Twitter to accuse her of doing something “possibly illegal:” On Thursday, Fein-stein was asked why she decided not to tell committee Chairman Charles Grassley (R-IA) about releasing the testimony and stated a “bad cold” had clouded her judgment: “The one regret I have is that I should have spoke with Senator Grassley before. And I don’t make an excuse, but I’ve had a bad cold and maybe that slowed down my mental facilities a little bit... Can Fein-stein be trusted with our nation's most sensitive matters?
Trump waives Iran
nuclear sanctions for the last time
by Joel Gehrke
{} ~ President Trump on Friday decided once more to waive sanctions against Iran and thus live up to the Iran nuclear agreement... but his administration warned this would be the last waiver. “This is the last such waiver he will issue,” a senior administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told reporters. That provided a sharp edge to what was otherwise good news for Iran, as Trump renewed the waiver that former President Barack liar-nObama granted at the culmination of his team’s nuclear negotiations with the regime. But if he is not exiting the deal abruptly, Trump’s team made clear that he remains determined to withdraw in the coming months absent a series of policy victories with Iran...
The Wild Overreaction to the
Ending of a ‘Temporary’ Immigration Status
by Michelle Malkin
{} ~ Seventeen years after granting “temporary protected status” to nearly 200,000 Salvadoran citizens who had fled earthquakes in 2001... or who were already here illegally and claimed they were unable to return to their homeland because of civil strife, America is setting a deadline: Get right with the law or go home. As if we haven’t shown enough generosity to these provisional guests in our home, the Department of Homeland Security gave the Salvadorans until September 2019 to get their affairs in order. But the usual suspects in the permanent Gang of Amnesty—identity-politics Democrats, big business Republicans, anti-rule of law activists, and sovereignty-sabotaging pundits—condemned the Trump administration’s announcement this week with a heaping dose of hyperbole...
Harris Brings Anti-Gun Stance to Judiciary Committee
by Jordan Candler:  There are two new Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and neither one shares an affinity for the Rule of Law. This week Senators Kamala Harris and Cory Booker joined the committee, which “handles judicial nominations and appointments to the Justice Department,” The Washington Post explains. But it’s Kamala Harris in particular who should most alarm originalists. For example:

Harris spent six years as California’s attorney general, a position she utilized to crack down on gun ownership. She oversaw Gov. Jerry Brown’s 2013 firearms proscription in which $24 million was set aside for the purpose of impounding guns. According to a Los Angeles Times report at the time, state officials’ justification for doing so was “to clear the backlog of weapons known to be in the hands of about 20,000 people who acquired them legally [emphasis added]. They were later disqualified because of criminal convictions, restraining orders or serious mental illness.
She also advocated for additional firearm restrictions, writes Reason’s Brian Doherty: “As attorney general, Harris tried to ensure that people couldn’t get carry permits for weapons in California merely for reasons as petty, to her mind, as that they felt they needed one. She has fought in court to ensure that only police officials should be able to decide whether a citizen can defend himself outside his home.”
Harris prefers to use emotional upheaval to advocate policy prescriptions. In reference to the Sandy Hook massacre, she stated: “They should have closed the chambers of Congress, on the House and the Senate side, and said, ‘All you members go in there, only you, and spread out the autopsy photos of those babies,’ and require them to look at those photographs. And then vote your conscience.”
And according to Doherty, “Harris is so uncomfortable with the Second Amendment she’s willing to jab at the First Amendment while hobbling it, as shown by her support as California’s attorney general for a state law restricting how handgun sellers can advertise. She so delights in pettily bedeviling gun owners that her department in California tried to enforce restrictions on how many guns could be purchased per month by those who hold certain special collectors’ licenses even though both the letter of the law and previous practice said they were exempt, and stuck to her lack of principle on the issue until she got sued over it in 2014.”
The role of the Senate Judiciary Committee should be to recommend nominees who abide by the Rule of Law regardless of their personal whims. Harris is completely the opposite — she will support nominees who abuse their roles just like she did in California. Her name is being highlighted as a possible candidate for the 2020 presidential election (as is Booker’s). The only thing that could be worse than elevating her to the Judiciary Committee would be putting her in the nation’s highest office.  ~The Patriot Pos

California Democrat Predicts
‘Widespread Civil Unrest’
If Trump Fires Mueller

California Democrat Rep. Ted Lieu predicted Monday there will be “widespread civil unrest” if President Donald Trump fires special counsel Robert Mueller.

“If the president does go ahead and fire Robert Mueller, we would have people take to the streets,” Lieu told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes.

“I believe there would be widespread civil unrest because Americans believe the rule of law is paramount.”

“You think there would be widespread civil unrest?” Hayes asked.

“I do. I think you’re going have protests and marches and rallies and sit-ins. I believe Americans would not stand for the firing of Robert Mueller,” Lieu replied.

Trump’s tweets last week have fueled speculation he plans to get rid of Mueller, who was appointed May 2017 to investigate Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign.

Trump called the Mueller probe a “witch hunt,” which “should never have been started.”

The Fake News is beside themselves that McCabe was caught, called out and fired. How many hundreds of thousands of dollars was given to wife’s campaign by Crooked H friend, Terry M, who was also under investigation? How many lies? How many leaks? Comey knew it all, and much more!

Trump lawyer John Dowd believes the Mueller investigation should come to an end, he said over St. Patrick’s Day weekend, which added fuel to the fire.

White House special counsel Ty Cobb issued a statement on Sunday, denying Trump plans to fire Mueller.

Trump would either have to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions or fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in order to shut down the Mueller investigation.

Rosenstein serves as acting attorney general for the Russia investigation because Sessions recused himself from the matter due to his involvement with the Trump campaign.

Sessions’ and/or Rosenstein’s replacements could shut down the Mueller investigation if the two were forced out of their positions.
