Congress vs. the Trump Administration
on Spending

spectator.org } ~ Congress can’t stop spending money. Even on projects that the Trump Administration does not want or need... Right now, the federal government is carrying over $22 trillion in national debt with trillion-dollar annual deficits projected, yet they can’t stop spending borrowed cash. The Tea Party movement was created because the federal government engaged in bailouts and out of control spending, yet Members of Congress have ignored the message the voters sent them. The F-35 fighter jet project is a classic example of Congress pushing spending that was not requested by the Pentagon. Politico Pro reported last week that “the House Armed Services Committee is proposing yet another boost in purchases of F-35 fighters in its version of annual defense policy legislation. The so-called chairman’s mark of the National Defense Authorization Act, H.R. 2500 (116), would authorize 90 total Lockheed Martin F-35s, a dozen more than the Pentagon requested, committee aides said.” The report indicated that the House Appropriations Committee also has requested more F-35s than requested by the Trump Administration. This is a program that is necessary yet has been plagued by being over budget and slow to deliver for years. Back in the days of earmarking, Congress frequently loaded up appropriations bills with special projects not requested by the administration. That practice was ended in 2010 in the Senate when then Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) pushed for a ban on earmarking special projects requested by members. Once the ban was put into effect, the spending of taxpayer money on projects not requested by the executive branch has slowed. One area where that practice has continued is with defense spending where the states where large defense contractors are located are protected by Senators and Representatives who represent those areas. This is happening with the F-35 project, because the lobbying interests have pushed Congress to request more F-35s than the Pentagon needs. This program was initially projected to cost about  $407 billion, yet now is projected to cost the taxpayers well over $1 trillion. This is a program that was the focus of president-elect Trump because of the “out of control” cost of the program. Trump tweeted on December 12, 2016, “The F-35 program and cost is out of control. Billions of dollars can and will be saved on military and other purchases after January 20th.” This request by Congress is exactly the problem addressed by President Trump’s push to “Drain the Swamp.” The Trump Administration should keep that promise and not buy more F-35s than they requested...

{dailycaller.com} ~The House Judiciary Committee released a transcript Thursday of former White House communications director Hope Hicks’s closed-door testimony... Hicks mostly defended President Donald Trump and members of the Trump campaign during an eight-hour interview Wednesday. She disputed the idea that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government, and also said she had no advance knowledge. WikiLeaks would release emails that had been stolen from Democrats during the campaign.  Hicks, who is a communications executive at Fox, also said she had no discussions prior to the 2016 election about hush money payments made on behalf of Trump. Days before the election, Michael Cohen, a former attorney for Trump, paid $130,000 to Stormy Daniels, a porn star who claimed she had an affair with Trump in 2006. Much of the 273-page transcript is filled with objections from Hicks’s attorneys about what questions she could answer. White House lawyers said Hicks had immunity from discussing her stint in the White House. Democrats said Hicks’s lawyers objected to 155 questions on the grounds that they fell under immunity provided by the White House. Hicks was pressed about how the campaign responded to WikiLeaks’ release of emails stolen from the DNC and scumbag/liar-Clinton campaign. She declined to say the campaign benefited from the releases. She also said she felt “a little bit of relief” at the release of some of the emails because it showed “that other campaigns had obstacles to face as well.”...  https://dailycaller.com/2019/06/20/house-judiciary-hope-hicks-transcript/?utm_medium=email

How the GOP Will Retake the House in 2020

spectator.org } ~ The Democrats, despite their exaggerated claims about the fabled “blue wave” of 2018, have a very tenuous grasp on the House majority... The Republicans need to flip only 18 seats in 2020 to regain control of that body — and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has already identified nearly twice that number of vulnerable Democrats in districts won by President Trump during the last presidential election. Moreover, the NRCC will certainly exploit the all too accurate public perception that House Democrats have veered sharply to the left and accomplished virtually nothing beyond investigating President Trump and obstructing his agenda. The “moderate” Democratic freshmen whose narrow 2018 victories provided their party with its thin House majority are concerned that the public agrees with the President’s characterization of the Democrats as a “Do Nothing Party,” with no real legislative agenda. Their worries are well founded. The Washington Post reports that numerous focus groups indicate that most voters are “unaware of political developments that don’t involve the president.” This is largely due to House Speaker liar-Nancy Pulosi’s penchant for impugning Trump’s integrity. She regularly suggests that he is corrupt and has said that he belongs in prison. But the voters aren’t buying it: One poll that has gotten attention among Democratic leaders, commissioned by the advocacy group End Citizens United, found in early May that voters in 12 presidential battleground states trusted Democrats no more than Trump to crack down on political corruption or limit the influence of money in politics. This can’t be comforting to those freshman Democrats who promised their constituents they would rise above the corrupting influence of the Beltway. The NRCC is taking aim at those very freshmen, and it is a target rich environment. Kendra Horn (D-OK), for example, won her Oklahoma seat by mere 1.4 percent in a district that Trump carried by nearly 14 points in 2016. The NRCC has likewise drawn a bead on Joe Cunningham (D-SC), who also won his South Carolina seat by 1.4 percent. Trump carried that district by 13 points. Another target is Xochitl Torres Small (D-NM), who won her New Mexico seat by 1.8 percent in a district Trump won by 10 points. There are 31 Democrats clinging to districts that Trump won in 2016. Of the 18 districts the GOP needs to flip in order to retake the House majority, Trump won 16 by 5 points or more. But the NRCC isn’t limiting its 2020 House offensive to the “Trump districts.” It has targeted a total of 55 in all, including 20 seats won by the GOP in 2016 and 4 additional seats identified as potential pick-up opportunities. One of the targeted districts is held by Cheri Bustos (D-IL), the chairwoman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). Bustos is well aware of what she’s up against and has created the “Frontline program” to defend 44 vulnerable Dem seats...

dailycaller.com } ~ Oregon’s Democratic governor sent state police to round up Republican state legislators on Thursday as they tried to avoid a quorum for a vote on a wide-ranging climate bill... but some had already fled the state. “I think Senate Republicans have all left if they’re not already on their way out,” Jonathan Lockwood, spokesman for Oregon Republicans, told The Daily Caller News Foundation in a phone interview Thursday. “The reason they’ve left the state is because it’s obviously harder for the state police to drag them back to the Capitol.” For example, Republican Oregon state Sen. Brian Boquist reportedly fled to Idaho, according to The Associated   Press. “This is what I told the Oregon State Police superintendent,” Boquist said according to The Oregonian. “Send bachelors and come heavily armed. I’m not going to be a political prisoner in the state of Oregon. It’s just that simple.” The Republicans, who are in the minority in the state Senate, walked out on a school funding tax package in May and came back after reaching a deal with Democratic Oregon Gov. Kate Brown to table measures dealing with gun control and vaccinations, reported The AP. But Brown’s tone seemed averse to compromise in her statement on involving state police Thursday. “The Senate Republicans have decided to abandon their duty to serve their constituents and walk out,” she said in a statement. “The Senate Democrats have requested the assistance of the Oregon State Police to bring back their colleagues to finish the work they committed to push forward for Oregonians.” This standoff was triggered by a cap-and-trade proposal designed to cut Oregon’s greenhouse gas emissions. Republicans want the issue to go to voters instead of being passed by the state legislature...

Ilhan Omar calls US the ‘aggressors’

bizpacreview.com } ~ With Iran’s Revolutionary Guard s shooting down an unmanned U.S. military aircraft in international airspace over the Strait of Hormuz, Rep. worthless-Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., took to Twitter to accuse the United States of being the “aggressors” here... But then, if this surprises you, you haven’t been paying attention to how much hate the freshman Democrat harbors in her heart. worthless-Omar, one of the first two Muslin women elected to Congress in 2018, has already established a rich history of attacking Jews in her first six months in office, and the controversial lawmaker cited Iraq in claiming U.S. aggressors “are using illegitimate pretexts to beat the drums of war.” “Just as in Iraq, aggressors are using illegitimate pretexts to beat the drums of war,” she tweeted. “Just as in Iraq, our media is taking these claims at face value. Just as in Iraq, children will die, American lives will be lost, and the world will be less safe. #NoWarWithIran After ignoring Iran’s long history of aggression and demonizing her adopted country for being attacked, the Somali refugee then set her sight on President Donald Trump, suggesting he may be out to improve his poll numbers by countering the Iran attack —  never mind that Trump ran on getting out of drawn out wars in the Middle East. worthless-Omar tweeted a pair of old tweets from Trump suggesting Barack scumbag/liar-nObama may do just that. On Monday, worthless-Omar blames the “increasing tensions and threats of war” on President Trump pulling out of the disastrous Iran nuclear deal. “None of this would be happening if Trump didn’t back out of the Iran nuclear deal,” she said in a tweet. “America’s response should be to return to the table and reinstate the Iran nuclear deal.” As if a first-term congresswoman who has been in office 6 months is an authority on what is best for the U.S. when it comes to foreign policy and dealing with the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism... worthless-Omar should be removed from congress and deported to Iran.

Scandinavia Moving Away From Socialized Health Care

Political Editors:  Socialism works so well that Scandinavian countries are … moving away from it. Despite what Democrat presidential candidate commie-Bernie Sanders says, the Scandinavian countries of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden have never truly been socialist. A better descriptor would be high-tax social welfare states that fundamentally maintain capitalist free-market economies. This welfare aspect of the Scandinavian countries is most evident in their socialized health care. These health systems are far from universal, however. Unlike commie-Sanders’s Medicare for All plan they employ cost-sharing services that are less comprehensive and allow for private health insurance plans.

In fact, Scandinavians are moving toward greater private health insurance coverage. The Daily Signal observes, “Between 2006 and 2016, the portion of the population covered by private insurance increased by 4% in Sweden, 7% in Norway, and 22% in Denmark.” Many of the private health insurance plans are designed to supplement government plans. The Signal notes, “This growing European interest in private health insurance typically stems from dissatisfaction with the state-run systems, which often provide poor or incomplete coverage and long wait times.”

As conservatives have long explained, government-run health care tends toward a subpar product; bad service, long wait times, lack of innovation, and little customer recourse. The beauty of a free market, capitalist system is that it fosters competition, which in turn benefits the customer by producing a higher-quality product, increased innovation, and speed of service. This is the reason why the U.S. has led the world in health care developments. And this is why the Scandinavian countries are moving away from welfare-based health systems.

Medicare for All would go far beyond the Scandinavian models into a full-blown socialist-controlled system. Unlike the Scandinavians, commie-Sanders’s plan abolishes private health insurance. Washington bureaucrats would be determining everyone’s health care needs, not the patient and their doctor. And inevitably everyone’s taxes would increase, while the efficiency of health services would only decrease. Image everyone in America subject to a system similar to that of the VA…
