westernjournal.com } ~ President Donald Trump will reportedly seek to freeze over $4 billion in aid to more than 100 countries for the current fiscal year... That sure sounds like a good idea, given the U.S. is expected to run about a $1 trillion deficit in 2019, but Trump is getting push back from congressional members on both sides of the aisle. According to CBN News chief political analyst David Brody, a senior administration official told him the move will be part of a “rescissions package” aimed at canceling billions of unspent foreign assistance funds. The money has been appropriated to the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Roll Call reported, “Stakeholders expected the White House would formally submit the cuts package to Congress this week, which would trigger a freeze on the funds and make it difficult for lawmakers to save them from expiring because the end of the fiscal year is a little over a month away…” “The 1974 budget law that created the current rescissions process allows the president to freeze spending on certain programs for 45 days of a continuous legislative session, while lawmakers weigh whether to approve the proposed cancellations.” House Speaker liar-Nancy Pelosi opposes the move, telling Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in a letter last week that withholding appropriated money, “overrides Congress’ most fundamental constitutional power” and “violates the good faith” of the budget negotiations. liar-Pelosi also passed on the language from a Government Accountable Office legal opinion finding that the Impoundment Control Act of 1974 does not allow the president to run out the clock, so to speak, on submitting rescissions to Congress. The speaker further informed Mnuchin that there is bipartisan opposition to Trump’s rescission package from the chairmen and ranking members of both the House Foreign Affairs and Senate Foreign Relations committees. GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina has also come out in opposition to the plan. Politico reported that Graham and Rep. jpost.com } ~ Israel's fight against the shipment of weapons from Iran to organizations under its protection may reach new districts... Sources from the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida claim that Israel plans to attack targets of Houthi rebels and Hezbollah in Yemen, near the Straits of Bab-el-Mandeb separating the Red Sea from the Gulf of Aden. According to the source, the Mossad and Military Intelligence are monitoring Iran's attempts to deliver weapons, including missiles and drones, which could be used for terrorist attacks against the region's maritime network. It has also been claimed that some of the drones and missiles were transferred to Iraq in an attempt to mislead the other party, and that the bombings attributed to Israel in the Arab country were intended to prevent the continuation of the route towards Yemen.  The sources confirmed that Israel shared its intelligence with Arab states that have ports in the area, and that they could be targets for attacks. The United States has also been updated on developments in shipping weapons from Iran to the Red Sea region. The paper further reported that a meeting was recently held in Tehran between Houthi leaders, Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders and Hezbollah representatives, discussing actions aimed on the one to ease pressure on Iran at the Strait of Hormuz, and on the other hand to damage Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Israel. Meanwhile, London-based Asharq Al-Awsat reports that the Saudi-led Arab coalition fighting the Houthis shot down two drones of the Iranian-backed militia on Wednesday while they were on their way to Saudi Arabia. The coalition spokesman said that the drones were sent from the Imran region in Yemen. He emphasized that any attempt by the Houthis to attack the kingdom is doomed to fail.

Depending on one’s perspective,  Whitehouse’s extraordinary brief is either a cogent indictment of the court’s seemingly partisan valence or particularly blunt strong-arming of the nation’s highest judicial tribunal. “Senator Whitehouse’s bald-faced threat to ‘heal’ or face the consequences is inappropriate and shows just why an independent judiciary is essential to our system of government,” Elizabeth Slattery, a legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “The justices should, and most likely will, ignore attempts to intimidate them, and instead focus on what the Constitution requires.” “And further, the facts don’t bear out Senator Whitehouse’s claim that the justices are driven by a partisan agenda,” Slattery added. “Just look at the voting records of the newest justices, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, who ended up on opposite sides in nearly a third of cases last term. That doesn’t look like the outcome-oriented judging to me.” Whitehouse filed an amicus or “friend of the court” brief in a Second Amendment case the justices will hear in their new term, which begins in October. The filing urged the justices to dismiss the case and broadly accused the court’s conservative majority of dutifully serving monied Republican political interests. What the USA Can Do for the Kurds in Syria

americanthinker.com } ~ The U.S. has long had a major problem. We are not considered a dependable ally. This first became widely known when the U.S. decided to remove our troops from the war in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia in the 1970s... Many of our allies in those nations were left high and dry, to be persecuted or slaughtered by the communists. In Cambodia, after the U.S. left, the genocidal forces of Pol Pot killed up to two million people. More recently, in 2011, U.S. troops were prematurely recalled from Iraq, abandoning the persecuted minorities there. This allowed ISIS to establish the caliphate and slaughter and terrorize the population, especially Shia Muslims, Yazidis, and Christians. Because ISIS was an avowed enemy of the U.S., beheaded several of our citizens, and conducted terror attacks against us, the U.S. eventually had to return to stop it. Ironically, America becomes an undependable ally often because the American people have moral values and do not want to fight or police other nations. Also, as a democracy, the U.S. public is sensitive to American casualties. So when a war goes on too long, with many casualties, we often turn against the war, regardless of its importance or which side is winning. This need not be what happens, in Syria, today. The U.S. has about 1,000 American troops in Syria. American troops were first introduced in 2014 to provide supplies, training, and air support to the Kurdish fighters in Syria and, later, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which included the Kurds, Syrian Sunni Arabs, Christians, and Yazidis as well. These U.S. troops have done a fantastic job, in tandem with the SDF. In 2017, at the behest of the U.S., U.S. forces and the SDF conquered Raqqa, the capital of the ISIS caliphate. In 2019, they seized the last land area in Syria controlled by ISIS. It is important to realize that the SDF had no reason on its own to conquer these areas, which are heavily Sunni Arab. They did this at the behest of the U.S. Another important point is that from 2014 through today, only eight U.S. citizens have been killed in Syria. This is because only very rarely were the U.S. forces anywhere near the front lines. The U.S. should limit the safe zone in Syria to the smallest area possible and tell Turkey to stay out of any other SDF-controlled lands in Syria.  If Turkey refuses to listen, sanctions can be imposed.  And the U.S. troops in the area should stay put. Otherwise, once again, the U.S. will become an undependable ally...

Lewis Morris:  Socialism’s growing popularity among young people in this country should be a major concern for Liberty-loving Americans. President Donald Trump loudly promises that America will never be a socialist country. Many conservative politicians and media pundits are inclined to agree with him. But ridiculing socialist ideas and simply counting on America to always remain a federal republic just because it always has been one will not defeat socialism in the United States.

Socialism is popular because the Left is adept at controlling the narrative. This may be a hard fact to face, but face it we must. The Left controls public education, the news media, and the entertainment industry. For the last couple of generations, leftists in these venues have altered the perceptions of what America is to millions of young people. Now that they have reached a point of critical mass, they are looking to convince these same young people to cast aside our great republic in favor of a socialist regime.

A new organization has stepped into the fray to challenge this assault. Young Americans Against Socialism set up shop just last week with the goal of spreading the truth about socialism, in part by sharing true stories of the young people who have lived it.

YAAS was founded by Morgan Zegers, the 22-year-old daughter of an Iraq War vet who ran for the New York State Assembly in 2018 to help stop the downward economic spiral of her home state. Zegers gained a great deal of media attention for her ultimately unsuccessful effort and was named a Rising Star of the New York GOP and the New York Young Republicans.

Zegers’s strategy is to use two of the Left’s powerful tools against them: emotion and social media. Social media is the most obvious place to have this conversation because that is where Zegers will find her target audience. The Left relies on emotion because it produces quick and powerful responses and because it clouds reason and judgment, two concepts that are Kryptonite to any socialist idea. The videos YAAS will post on social media recount emotional stories of young people who have directly suffered under socialism and have blessedly escaped its clutches.

Zegers will also use social media to set the record straight about socialism. Among the myths to be dispelled are the so-called heroism of the prolific murderer Che Guevara, why the Left insists on incorrectly categorizing Scandinavian countries as socialist, what really happened to oil-rich Venezuela, and how capitalism has lifted more people out of poverty than any other economic system in world history.

Given her youth and her dedicated social-media strategy, Zegers is in a better position to change the narrative than a news pundit that young people probably won’t even watch. It’s exciting to see another group dedicated to pushing back against socialism’s appeal to America’s youth. It’s been a long time coming, and as Zegers argues, we must push back because Liberty is worth fighting for.  ~The Patriot Post
