{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ I was once at a dinner attended by Attorney General William Barr. A conservative journalist who was also there pressed him in a voice heavy with frustration to pursue conspiratorial lines of inquiry against President Trump’s perceived enemies... Barr is polite and low-key almost to a fault, but he eventually tired of this sniping, looked his interlocutor in the eye, and asked, "Do you think I'm stupid?" His unusually withering dismissal of an intemperate right-winger comes to mind now that Washington is in ferment over accusations that Barr is Trump's sock puppet — “wingman” is how swcumbag-Eric Holder described his own relationship with President Barack scumbag/liar-nObama — and is thereby undermining the Department of Justice. More than 1,100 former DOJ staff recently demanded Barr’s departure for deciding that the treatment of Roger Stone, a onetime adviser to Trump, was too harsh. Trump tweeted — when doesn’t he? — about the injustice of Stone’s recommended sentence of seven to nine years behind bars. Barr complained, reasonably enough, that the president’s tweets made it “impossible for me to do my job.” In short, Barr made a principled intervention, and then the president made his ablest lieutenant look bad by incontinent tweeting. The abundantly clear truth is that Barr is the opposite of a political hack. Though obviously and properly a supporter of the president, he does not allow his loyalty to undermine his probity and consummate professionalism. That’s actually why he’s under attack. It’s what makes him so dangerous to Trump’s most active critics. He will follow evidence where it leads without fear or favor. He won’t prosecute cases he deems weak, nor will he shy away from others where he believes he can secure a conviction. He’s the kind of attorney general who makes wrongdoers tremble. If Barr were to leave the administration, it would be a disaster, whether he resigned or was fired. Trump has no one as capable. Barr demonstrated a mastery of his subject at his confirmation hearing and has demonstrated a massive competence and dignified imperturbability ever since. His departure would because they know, just as the trembling wrongdoers know, that Barr is the last best hope that justice will be delivered to the deep state shysters who invented the Russia collusion hoax and used it for years to undermine a president they did not like and whose fair election they refuse to acknowledge...

{ politico.com } ~The top lawyer for the intelligence community, whose decision to block a whistleblower's complaint about President Donald Trump and Ukraine from reaching Congress helped jumpstart the impeachment inquiry... is resigning from his post, officials confirmed. Jason Klitenic, the general counsel for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, will depart early next month, according to an agency spokeswoman. His exit comes as the acting DNI, Joseph Maguire, nears a March 11 deadline to depart as well. Federal law prevents Maguire from serving in an acting capacity beyond that date, meaning a new director must be nominated and confirmed by then, or Trump must pick a new acting official. Klitenic made a personal decision to return to private practice, the spokeswoman said. He became the subject of scrutiny in September when he consulted with the Justice Department and determined that a whistleblower complaint deemed "urgent" by an internal watchdog would not be provided to Congress. House Intelligence Committee Chairman scumbag/liar-nAdam Schiff (D-Calif.) demanded access to the complaint after learning it had been blocked — and that it likely pertained to Trump or his senior advisers — and the furor that ensued led to a cascade of support for impeachment in the House. The Trump administration's initial refusal to provide the complaint, as well as a string of media reports suggesting the complaint described wrongdoing by Trump in his posture toward Ukraine, ultimately led Speaker liar-Nancy Pelosi to open an impeachment inquiry in late September. Within days of her decision, Maguire testified to Congress and the whistleblower complaint was released publicly. Trump also decided to release the readout of a July 25 call with Ukraine's president that became a central piece of evidence in the impeachment inquiry...  https://www.politico.com/news/2020/02/18/intel-office-lawyer-ukraine-whistleblower-complaint-115776

Israeli-made x-ray capsule identifies
warning signs of colorectal cancer

{ jpost.com } ~ A swallowable capsule to x-ray and identify warning signs of colorectal cancer is edging closer to the American market... promising an Israeli-led revolution in colorectal cancer prevention. The small C-Scan capsule, developed by Isfiya-based Check-Cap, is simply swallowed by a patient to generate three-dimensional maps of the inner lining of the colon, and detect any pre-cancerous polyps or other abnormalities. Far from the invasive and unpleasant nature of a colonoscopy, the x-ray capsule requires no preparation and autonomously communicates with a wearable tracking unit. After swallowing, the patient can continue with their daily routine and allow the technology to do its work. The company is currently working with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) toward a pivotal trial in late 2020, and the innovative technology could be commercialized in the United States by 2022. The solution was granted CE approval in early 2018, and has already been approved for sale in Israel. "The number of people willing to do a colonoscopy is less than half - it is a problem looking for a solution," Dr. Yoav Kimchy, founder and CTO of Check-Cap, told The Jerusalem Post. "The idea was to find a way to look for polyps and not to look for cancer. Polyps are like a warning sign and you don't want to wait for the cancer." Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States among both men and women, and over 53,000 deaths are estimated from the disease in the US alone this year. If polyps are identified early, however, it can be one of the most preventable cancers of all. Typically-benign polyps can be present in the colon for a decade before developing into invasive cancer. Kimchy's idea to establish the company, now listed on Nasdaq, followed years of expertise gained as an officer in the Israeli Navy, focusing on underwater warfare, and a doctorate in signal processing and brain waves. "The idea was to try and find some way to see through murky water, without the need for preparation," he said, emphasizing that the ultra-low dose of radiation from the capsule is comparable to a single chest x-ray. "Nobody has done this kind of reconstruction or imaging before. Instead of adapting the patient to the technology, we adapt the technology to the patient."...

Gov scumbag-Newsom fumes over Trump’s order

{ bizpacreview.com } ~ President Donald Trump’s plan to divert water supplies to help California farmers was met with Gov. scumbag-Gavin Newsom’s counter plan to sue the Trump administration... Just before the president was set to announce his fulfillment of a campaign promise to get water from the north end of the state to the agriculture industry in the San Joaquin Valley to the south, the office of the Democratic governor said he “will file legal action in the coming days … to protect highly imperiled fish species close to extinction,” The Sacramento Bee reported. He told the crowd gathered in Bakersfield at an airport hangar that “millions and millions of gallons” of water have been “wasted and poured into the ocean” due to California policies. The president noted changes to the “outdated scientific research and biological opinions,” as endangered species protections for different types of fish that had been in place for years were reversed by the Department of the Interior last year. The changes would now direct “as much water as possible, which will be a magnificent amount, a massive amount of water for the use of California farmers and ranchers,” Trump said, with California Republican Reps. Kevin McCarthy and Devin Nunes by his side. Interior Secretary David Bernhardt also joined the president.“It would be different if you had a drought,” Trump said. “You don’t have a drought. You have tremendous amounts of water.” He also said “you’re going to be able to farm your land and you’re going to be able to do things you never thought possible,” adding that “maybe we can get the governor to come along and really be friendly on this one.” scumbag-Newsom had acknowledged in a letter to the Interior Department this week that more water was needed by Valley farmers and promised he would try to work on a compromise plan. “We remain committed to working to resolve these remaining differences in the coming weeks and months,” scumbag-Newsom wrote to Bernhardt. But the president on Wednesday referred to California’s previous water policy as a “disgrace.” “After decades of failure and delays in ensuring critical water access for the people of this state, we are determined to finally get your problem solved,” Trump said. Critics of the administration’s plan and perceived interference spoke out against the changes...  https://www.bizpacreview.com/2020/02/20/gov-newsom-fumes-over-trumps-order-to-divert-water-to-california-farmers-vows-to-sue-889196?utm_campaign=bizpac&utm_content=Newsletter&utm_medium=Newsletter&utm_source=Get+Response&utm_term=EMAIL

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ It was the final question in a wild and furious Democrat debate last night: “If no candidate earns the majority of delegates how should a nominee be chosen?”... Should the candidate with the most delegates be selected as the nominee? Every candidate on stage -except comie-Bernie Sanders- stated the private Club rules should determine the nominee at the DNC convention in Wisconsin; regardless of who comes to the convention with the highest number of delegates. commie-Bernie Sanders position is that whoever has the highest number of votes and earned delegates should be the nominee. With proportional distribution this difference of opinion could be problematic if most of the candidates stay in the race quite probable now, except loose lips liar-Biden and split the non-commie-Bernie vote. Yet, commie-Bernie Sanders beats them all in the popular vote and earned delegate count. After the first round delegate count at the convention the 700 ‘Super Delegates’ could select a ‘non-commie-Bernie’ nominee in round two. This has always looked like the Club plan; however, Team commie-Bernie will likely go bananas.   https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2020/02/20/bernie-stands-alone-all-other-candidates-agree-to-let-the-club-pick-the-democrat-nominee/

Increased Antarctic sea ice may have
contributed to past ice ages

By Chris Ciaccia
{ foxnews.com } ~ Upside-down "rivers" of warm ocean water may be one of the causes of Antarctica's ice shelves breaking up, leading to a rise in sea levels... A new study suggests that, in the past, increases in Antarctic sea ice in colder climates may have contributed to ice ages. Using computer simulations, the research looked at past changes during the glacial periods and noted that previous increases in sea ice levels may have significantly altered the circulation of the ocean, which led to a reverse greenhouse effect as carbon dioxide levels in the ocean increased and levels in the air decreased. “One key question in the field is still what caused the Earth to periodically cycle in and out of ice ages,” University of Chicago professor and the study's co-author, Malte Jansen, said in a statement. “We are pretty confident that the carbon balance between the atmosphere and ocean must have changed, but we don’t quite know how or why." The last major ice age ended at the end of the  Pleistocene epoch, about 11,700 years ago, as glaciers have periodically grown and then gotten smaller. Researchers believe that changes to the Earth's orbit may be partly responsible for some of the Earth's cooling, but additional factors have likely played a part, Jensen added. “The most plausible explanation is that there was some change in how carbon was divided between the atmosphere and the ocean,” Jansen continued. “There’s no shortage of ideas about how this happens, but it’s not quite clear how they all fit together.” Researchers also believe a mini-ice age may have occurred roughly 12,800 years ago. It likely stems from an asteroid impact that "rocked the Northern Hemisphere" and led to the Younger Dryas climate event. Jansen pointed out that the Southern Ocean around Antarctica "plays a key role in ocean circulation" due to the deep waters in the region, leading it to have "outsized consequences." “What this suggests is that it’s a feedback loop,” said the study's lead author, Alice Marzocchi. “As the temperature drops, less carbon is released into the atmosphere, which triggers more cooling.” “What surprised me is how much of this increased storage can be attributed to physical changes alone, with Antarctic sea-ice cover being the key player,” Marzocchi added, noting that future study of the ocean and the role it plays in the carbon cycle can help simulate "future environmental change.”

The Answer to Bullying Is Strength, Not Submission

Louis DeBroux:  Our society has become a worried society. We worry about everything imaginable. Some worries are legitimate, like the devastating impact of the opioid epidemic on families. Others, like “gun violence” or bullying, should concern us but also need to be put in proper context.

To watch the mainstream media, one would think we’re living in the most violent time in the history of America. In reality, gun-related murders in general, and school shootings in particular, are less frequent now than 30 years ago.

Another “epidemic” that causes anxiety for parents is bullying. But is it really an epidemic? Is bullying more common, or crueler, than in previous generations? Or are we simply raising a generation of victims, discouraged from standing up for themselves and incapable of dealing with the types of bullies that have been around forever?

“Many states have even passed anti-bullying laws, only to discover that the laws not only fail to fix the problem but probably make it worse,” notes The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh. “We have sent armies of psychologists into the schools, with the hope that medicalizing the problem might do the trick if legislating it didn’t work. And if all else fails, we have recourse to anti-bullying PSAs, anti-bullying seminars, anti-bullying websites, anti-bullying posters, and anti-bullying bumper stickers. But there is little evidence that any of these measures have made a significant impact.”

Many of today’s parents remember being told when they were children, “You better not start a fight, but if someone picks a fight with you, you’d better end it.” Not so now. Today, the bully and the victim are treated as moral equals if the victim has the temerity to actually fight back.

The idea that “it doesn’t matter who started it” is logically ludicrous and morally reprehensible. It absolutely does  matter who started it. To say otherwise would be to argue that, if a rape victim fought back and killed her attacker, she and the rapist bear equal blame for the outcome. No sane person would take such an obviously idiotic position.

To say otherwise sends a horrible message to children, who should be taught that there is nothing laudable about being weak or cowardly. There is nothing praiseworthy about allowing evil to prevail uncontested.

Children are told that they should be the “bigger person” and walk away from bullies. That’s fine, to an extent. Certainly, we should not encourage children to throw punches if someone mocks their new haircut or criticizes their shirt. But what should the response be to relentless public humiliation? To being slapped, kicked, punched, or tripped? How many times should the victim walk away? And what message does it send to the bully when they are allowed to be school-aged tyrants who torment their peers without consequence?

Bullies thrive on power. They lust for the feeling of dominion they get over a submissive, terrified victim. Like a junkie, they get high on the feeling of dominating a weaker person. And like a junkie, over time it takes more and more to achieve that same high. The hateful, humiliating words get viler. The physical abuse gets more aggressive.

Even worse, when a child walks away from a bully out of fear rather than from a position of strength, no matter what lofty praise parents or teachers heap on the child, the child will still feel the shame and embarrassment of cowardice.

In the end, the only way to deal with bullies is for the victims to fight back. It can be frightening, but it will teach them the lesson that courage is not the absence of fear; rather, it is the willingness to persevere in the face of fear.

As Archbishop Desmond Tutu so eloquently stated, “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse, and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.”
