To Shove His Interview After Raid

{ constitution.com } ~ Special counsel Robert Mueller’s office and President Donald Trump’s legal team are now proceeding with strategies that presume a presidential interview... will likely not take place as part of the Russia investigation, after months of talks between the two sides collapsed earlier this week, according to multiple people familiar with the matter. On Monday Trump’s lawyers were discussing a possible interview with Mueller’s team and had begun to hash out the final sticking points, including the timing, scope and length, according to people familiar with the discussions. One person familiar with the strategy said the president’s lawyers had sought over the weekend to expand his legal team to include individuals who would prepare him for an interview. Another person familiar with the matter, however, said preparations had not yet gone that far. But the prospects for a presidential interview drastically dimmed once the FBI raided the home, office and hotel room of Trump’s long-time personal lawyer, Michael Cohen on Monday, these people said. Tom Garrett, R-Va., told The Daily Signal in a phone interview. Garrett’s bill would amend House rules, requiring “any bill to be publicly available for a number of minutes that’s double the number of pages,” the website for Virginia radio station WVTF reported. The spending bill, which was signed by President Donald Trump, was 2,232 pages long. Dershowitz: FBI is Running Roughshod Over the Constitution
{ totalconservative.com } ~ It continually surprises us how easily the left is able to dismiss famed attorney Alan Dershowitz, a lifelong Democrat... who has nonetheless been one of the few partisans able to see right through the left’s attempts to destroy this president. Dershowitz, trust us, has no love for the Republican agenda. And if we were to bet, we would bet that he did not pull the lever for Donald Trump in 2016. But he has been at the forefront when it comes to defending this president – not because he has some loyalty to Trump the individual or to Trump’s agenda aside from his views on Israel, but because, as a lawyer, he knows that much of what Trump has gone through over the last year has been completely off the charts, clinically, historically INSANE. That’s why we’ve seen Dershowitz over the past year taking aim at the ludicrous attempts to block Trump’s travel ban on Middle Easter countries, the unserious objections on the part of Democrats to Trump’s illegal immigration crackdown, and, most importantly, the off-script, off-kilter, unconstitutional investigation into Trump’s campaign association with Russia. For being one of the few liberals willing to put aside his political beliefs and simply talk turkey, Dershowitz has been shunned by the #Resistance media, treated like a pariah by Democrat pundits, and called everything from a shill to a conservative whacko. Ryan's Retirement Rattles Republicans
by Nate Jackson: House Speaker Paul Ryan will not seek re-election this November, joining more than 40 other House Republicans who are headed for the exits this fall, if not sooner. For the sitting speaker to retire is a big deal, and it will have implications all over the map. There won’t be any shortage of celebration among Democrats or some conservatives over Ryan’s departure. John Hayward, for one, wrote, “Ryan rose to prominence as one of the most articulate advocates of fiscal responsibility in his party. His career ends with Republicans proving beyond all doubt that they were never really serious about it.”
It’s true that spending is not under control — especially entitlements — and, as Ryan’s former signature issue, that is a significant failure. Ryan clearly failed to change the budgeting system, instead allowing the all-or-nothing omnibus method to dominate. As Dan McLaughlin explains, “This excess of brinksmanship gives a massive structural advantage towards the passage of individual spending items that could not survive on their own, since the choice is literally one between shutting down the government and approving all the spending on everything.” That said, before he was speaker, Ryan was instrumental in holding the line on spending during the Barack liar-nObama years. Unfortunately, it wasn’t nearly enough, and he didn’t stick to his guns when he was in charge.
And yes, Republicans failed to repeal liar-nObamaCare as they promised for seven long years. But it’s not primarily the fault of conservatives like Ryan that conservative priorities have failed. The liar-nObamaCare failure is the fault of “centrist” Republicans, particularly in the Senate (here’s looking at you, rino-Susan Collins and rino-Lisa Murkowski, et al.), where Ryan had no control. Leadership for Ryan has meant pulling together Republicans that are much further apart in the majority than they were when liar-nObama was the common opponent, making legislative accomplishments few and far between. The same could be said for his counterpart, Mitch McConnell. Both failed to lead on liar-nObamaCare, but the deck was stacked against them.
President Donald Trump hasn’t made life any easier for Ryan, either. Part of that is welcome — Trump was elected to drain the swamp, and in many ways he’s done so. Clearly that doesn’t make swamp dwellers happy, but there has been some collateral damage too. Republicans are constantly on their heels either defending Trump, bracing for what’s next, or shaking their heads and distancing from him. Trump supporters love it. Ryan and other conservatives trying to accomplish legislative goals, not so much.
Yet, in spite of all that, Ryan steered through the biggest tax reform in 30 years, and Americans of all stripes are benefiting. For all his faults, that is a huge success. Ryan is also a profoundly decent man, and there are far too few such men in Washington. But perhaps his critics will be happier with the impeachment agenda of Speaker Nancy Pulosi. ~The Patriot Post
