The term Great Awakening refers to a period of religious revival in American history. There were three or four waves of increased religious enthusiasm occurring between the early 18th century and the late 20th century. Each of these "Great Awakenings" was characterized by widespread revivals led by evangelical ministers, a sharp increase of interest in religion, a profound sense of conviction and redemption on the part of those affected, a jump in evangelical church membership, and the formation of new religious movements and denominations. I (Lisa Schultz) submit to your consideration that the fourth Great Awakening began around 1960 with the advent of the charismatic movement. The manifest presence of God, received via the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, is vital to equip 21st century Americans to restore our nation to godliness.
