Will Trump Hold Firm on Syrian Pullout?

by Pat Buchanan

{townhall.com} ~ "We have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there," wrote President Donald Trump, as he ordered the withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Syria, stunning the U.S. foreign policy establishment.

Trump overruled his secretaries of state and defense, and jolted this city and capitals across NATO Europe and the Middle East.

Yet, Trump is doing exactly what he promised to do in his campaign. And what his decision seems to say is this:

We are extricating America from the forever war of the Middle East so foolishly begun by previous presidents. We are coming home. The rulers and peoples of this region are going to have to find their own way and fight their own wars. We are not so powerful that we can fight their wars while we also confront Iran and North Korea and face new Cold Wars with Russia and China.

As for the terrorists of ISIS, says Trump, they are defeated.

Yet, despite the heavy casualties and lost battles ISIS has suffered, the collapse of the caliphate, expulsion from its Syrian capital Raqqa and Iraqi capital Mosul, and from almost all territories it controlled in both countries, ISIS is not dead. It lives on in thousands of true believers hidden in those countries. And, like al-Qaida, it has followers across the Middle East and inspires haters of the West living in the West.

The U.S. pullout from Syria is being called a victory for Vladimir Putin. "Russia, Iran, Assad... are ecstatic!" wails Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Graham is echoed by Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse who called the withdrawal a "retreat" and charged that Trump's generals "believe the high-fiving winners today are Iran, ISIS and Hezbollah."

But ISIS is a Sunni terrorist organization. And, as such, it detests the Alawite regime of Bashar Assad, and Hezbollah and Iran, both of which are hated by ISIS as Shiite heretics.

"Russia, Iran, Syria... are not happy about the US leaving," Trump tweeted, "despite what the Fake News says, because now they will have to fight ISIS and others, who they hate, without us."

If Putin, victorious in the Syrian civil war, wishes to fight al-Qaida and ISIS, the last major enemies of Assad in Syria, why not let him?

The real losers?

Certainly the Kurds, who lose their American ally. Any dream they had of greater autonomy inside Syria, or an independent state, is not going to be realized. But then, that was never really in the cards.

Forced to choose between Turkey, with 80 million people and the second-largest army in NATO, which sits astride the Dardanelles and Bosphorus entrance to the Black Sea, and the stateless Kurds with their Syrian Democratic Forces, or YPG, Trump chose Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

And Erdogan regards the YPG as kinfolk and comrades of the Kurdish terrorist PKK in Turkey. A week ago, he threatened to attack the Kurds in northern Syria, though U.S. troops are embedded alongside them.

What kind of deal did Trump strike with Erdogan?

Turkey will purchase the U.S. Patriot anti-aircraft and missile defense system for $3.5 billion, and probably forego the Russian S-400.

Trump also told Erdogan, we "would take a look at" extraditing Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen whom Erdogan says instigated the 2016 coup attempt that was to end with his assassination.

National security adviser John Bolton, who said U.S. troops would remain in Syria until all Iranian forces and Iranian-backed militias have been expelled, appears not to have been speaking for his president.

And if the Israelis were relying on U.S. forces in Syria to intercept any Iranian weapons shipments headed to Hezbollah in Lebanon through Damascus, then the Israelis are going to have to make other arrangements.

The war party project, to bring about regime change in Tehran through either severe sanctions leading to insurrection or a U.S.-Iranian clash in the Gulf, will suffer a severe setback with the U.S. pullout from Syria.

However, given the strength of the opposition to a U.S. withdrawal -- Israel, Saudi Arabia, the GOP foreign policy establishment in Congress and the think tanks, liberal interventionists in the Beltway press, Trump's own national security team of advisers -- the battle to overturn Trump's decision has probably only just begun.

From FDR's abandonment of 100 million East Europeans to Stalin at Yalta in 1945, to the abandonment of our Nationalist Chinese allies to Mao in 1949, and of our South Vietnamese allies in 1975, America has often been forced into retreats leading to the deaths of allies. Sasse says Trump is risking the same outcome: "A lot of American allies will be slaughtered if this retreat is implemented."

But is that true?

Trump's decision to pull out of Syria at least has assured us of a national debate on what it will mean to America to extricate our country from these Mideast wars, the kind of debate we have not had in the 15 years since we were first deceived into invading Iraq.

ISIS has not been defeated, they only lost some battles, but they did retake Iraq. And they are still here in America.

tif

can't argue on that. only ISIS is on their heels in syria.

ISIS had more damage do to them by Russia, then US Military. And yes, Trump is pulling our troops out. They will retake Syria, if the EU UK keeps getting in the way of Russia, even Israel needs to let Russia have at them, and make it work.

tif

you forgot Iran who also will be advancing in Syria.

Nope did not forget, but the troop are coming home, the whole 9/11 Iraq War was a lie. ISIS has control over Iraq, Africa, and many more places.

America Should NOT be the police of the world....BUT America must respect other countries who will give up and go home if AMERICA pulls out of Syria and for that sacred reason America owes it to Every American and every country in the middle east to STICK IT OUT and Continue a strong presence in Syria.

TO Donald Trump:

Reconsider that seriously faulty decision to do a pull out of Syria. WE ARE PLAYING THE LONG GAME DONALD!

Russia WILL ,  along with Iran, attack Israel in the future with no protection by American Military In Syria, and, that will be a crime against HUMANITY!

Stephen

Have to stand with you on this. If so, here is the email to the WH  https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact  so you can express your thoughts directed towards the President.

That is a lie, Russia will not attack Israel, they have no interest in those 200 nukes there. Russia and Trump has entered a agreement, as stated that comment is a lie.

Tif Morgan,

Dod you ever read the Bible?

Do you know that Russia----WILL PROTECT IRAN SYRIA FROM ISRAEL!

 Read Isaiah 17 and 18.....

There are a lot more back-ups for this BUT, To protect Iran and Syria Russia will attack Israel to prevent more Nuc's like the one that will destroy Damascus.... from destroying the whole of Iran .

Do you think Israel will sit still and let Syria poison gas them? If so, You Don't know Israel.

I know who wrote that Bible called the King James, and I know who is pushing this issue, I know more then you think I do, I have seen the videos and all the propaganda crap,

I know more about Israel then you think I do. Jewish Rabbis did a fine job exposing the crap coming from just another corrupt Government, just like here in the USA.

Don't even try to tell me what is what.

It will be God that destroys the temples of Israel again. It will not be by man doing it, and that is just that.

I do no read or follow the King James Bible, my choice. Because I am just a GOY...Like Da!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tif,

The war of Isaiah, 38 & 39.

The fool Democrats will more then likely be in charge and will take a neutral stance when Russia does its dirty work and will provide -0- assistance Democrats don't like Israel.....Democrats are akin to Russia,Watch it evolve.

Russia takes Crimea and established a deep water in a syrian port for troop transports. Its not far off Tif.

Like Da!!!!! did ya miss the memo, the Republican Party and the Democrat Party, its like this, Jewish Politicians (R) vs. Jewish Politicians (D) its all very Jewish you know, and Deep State is a Creative Commons Release by very creative Jewish Politicians.

And most of the people in Russia is Jewish,,, Like Da!!!!

I even studied the time line of the Jewish Holocaust, a 10 year event and it was 8 years later the Jewish Politicians in the White House entered that war, WW2. Jews allowed Jews to die, period, end of this subject, like in bye, see ya later.

ALERT ALERT

1 Billion Dollar Net Worth!!! Oberlin College Claims Poverty To Avoid Paying Punitive Damages To Gibson’s Bakery

Although IRS reports show the university is worth around $1 billion, Oberlin College still claimed poverty to avoid paying punitive damages to Gibson’s Bakery.

As Breitbart News reported this week, the far-left Oberlin College lost a defamation case filed by Gibson’s Bakery after a local jury found the university liable for falsely accusing the family bakery of racism.

The jury ordered Oberlin on Friday to pay Gibson’s $11.2 million in compensatory damages for defamation and intentional interference with a business.

Legal Insurrection reported on Thursday that “the jury awarded a total of $33 million in punitive damages, which will probably be reduced by the court to $22 million because of the state law cap at twice compensatory.”

Legal Insurrection has been following the case for two years — since the beginning — and reports that the school’s only defense against a sizable punitive award is to pretend it is poor, despite holding assets that amount to a billion — with a “b” — dollars and despite paying some of its staffers more than a half-million dollars a year:

Oberlin College was so hellbent on getting the message out that their cash liquidity was in such dire straits — as the eight-person jury was figuring out if they wish to add $22.4 million to the school’s legal verdict bill — that they brought out the school’s president, Carmen Twillie Ambar to the stand to tell that part the story.

“We’ve created deficits … and over the next ten years, if this continues, that is unsustainable and we will not exist,” Ambar told the jury. She even indicated the school’s grants — about $60 million a year from the school, and lots of students get those scholarships as only 10% of them pay the full $70,000 a year — were important to preserve as “the accessibility of education” was a key component of the school’s purpose.

However…

The college has more than $1 billion in funds and net assets according to the latest IRS 990 form, an endowment fund that had grown from $440 million to $887 million in the last 20 years, and because of its non-profit status, pays no taxes on any property it owns.

It also had 18 members of their administration making more than $100,00 a year. The president and chief financial officer of the school were both making more than $500,000 a year.

Grifters gonna grift…

The day after Donald Trump won the presidency, this nutball school apparently decided to take out its impotent woke-rage on this poor bakery, which has been part of the Oberlin community for more than a century.

It all started when three Oberlin students (who would later plead guilty in a plea deal) attempted to steal bottles of wine.

The proprietors caught the students and, while attempting to hold them until police arrived, were allegedly roughed up by the shoplifters. But because the students are black and the proprietors white — and with no respect for due process or facts — Oberlin staffers and students decided some vigilantism was in order and did everything in their considerable power to destroy this local bakery forever, to smite it off the map.

Classes were canceled so hundreds of students could protest in front of the small store while enjoying free food and drink, courtesy of the school. School staffers handed out fliers that basically described the family-owned bakery as the local branch of the KKK.

As a result, the bakery had to lay off almost all of its employees and barely avoided bankruptcy.

In the end, the three shoplifters said race had nothing to do with what happened.

For those of you interested in incurring $200,000 in debt before you even enter the workforce, it looks as though you can major in Mob Justice at Oberlin.
