Urban Outfitters Pretends 'Bloodied' Kent State Sweatshirt Was Just 'Vintage'

The Kent State University sweatshirt made by Urban Outfitters.

After a controversy broke over an Urban Outfitters sweatshirt that appeared to make light of the Kent State University shooting, Urban Outfitters said that the blood-splattered design was actually just "sun-faded vintage."

Earlier today, Buzzfeed reported on the discovery of a $129 sweatshirt for sale on the Urban Outfitters website that, well, very obviously appeared to match Ohio's Kent State University with its most infamous historical moment—the tragic killing of four unarmed college students by the Ohio National Guard in 1970.

Responding to the controversy, Kent State University issued a statement of condemnation this morning:

"May 4, 1970, was a watershed moment for the country and especially the Kent State family. We lost four students that day while nine others were wounded and countless others were changed forever. We take great offense to a company using our pain for their publicity and profit. This item is beyond poor taste and trivializes a loss of life that still hurts the Kent State community today. We invite the leaders of this company as well as anyone who invested in this item to tour our May 4 Visitors Center, which opened two years ago, to gain perspective on what happened 44 years ago and apply its meaning to the future."

Anything for a buck.

SAD !

Just when I think I've seen it all....disgusting!!

Really?? I can't believe I just read this. I'm not a supporter of the anti war movement and I find it reprehensible that they spit on our Veterans when they came back from Vietnam but I also find this shirt offensive as well.

Not all of us were hippies and I became a military officer! At Kent State, some radicals burned the ROTC bldg on the weekend and the Ohio National Guard was called out. Peaceful students were meeting at lunch on the commons hill to hear anti-war speeches just like every other Monday. They were  told to disperse but didn't. The Guard was ordered to disperse them with bayonets and tear gas and marched thru them to a fence where they "fell-out". Students threw the tear gas back and some guardsmen took up firing positions. A Guard sergeant fired his handgun and 29 soldiers fired 67 rounds in 13 seconds. This is similar to Ferguson where the police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at marchers instead of protecting businesses and arresting looters. You are a patriotic Vet so how about honoring your oath and the 1st Amend right to peaceful protest  The Democrats screwed me out of my GI Bill and yes they are Communist but your generalizations about war protesters then and over the years is too broad. The great majority were and are good citizens; the Vietnam War was an American stupidity start to finish and they had every right to say so. Long live the memories of Goldwater, Wallace and our Lord Jesus Christ..

I remember the days when corporations would do business with class and dignity, when the bottom line was company growth through strong investments and business acumen. Nowadays, business leaders have ZERO moral compass, and will capitalize on pain and suffering of others in the name of "financial liquidity", and will shun one group of individuals if it means they can make more money from another group.

Its all progressive liberalism....even in business.

Shameful

This shows how many people in this country have NO sense of responsibility. Many of the people who treated Viet Nam Vets like trash are in government and lawyers today! Yes the anti-War protesters did all that is mentioned, but there were more horrendous acts against VN Soldiers than words or poop! There were physical attacks, stabbings and other despicable acts of violence perpetuated by Americans who have NOT served this country in any positive way! The same people that have committed acts against the "establishment" are NOW pushing their Alinsky Marxist Agenda on the USA! This is just an example of Clinton and Obama's "groupies" who have NEVER grown up and have NEVER become Americans who love America and Liberty!! NO MATTER what has happened around the World, NO MATTER what has happened in the USA---America is the best, most generous and freedom loving country in History

`I am surprised that the revisionist history CZAR hasn't stepped up and tried to make good use of this tragedy.  Let us all remember that back then they fired on unarmed civilians.  LET US ALL BE AWARE OF THE FACT THAT OBAMA HAS SIGNED AN EXECUTIVE ORDER ALLOWING THE US MILITARY TO FIRE ON US CITIZENS!  Sorry to yell, but let the memory of KENT STATE warn us all of the Overbearing Federal presence.

This is what happens when you have Terrorist as college professors spewing their hatred and propaganda all over our young people.  If these folks hate America so much, please go live in a communist country as the common people must live shortages and all!  You bogus elitist who cry out that they are for the people while living large and in charge.  You make me sick with your hypocrisy!

Or a 'vintage' T-shirt

I'm sure they didn't mean it to be a  awakening but it is a Sad statment for thoes that still believe that  some factions of the military would not open fire on a civilian populatation it is but a sad reminder that Some Will.

ALERT ALERT

Joe Biden Talks To The Dead: – He Worked On Paris Climate Deal With Long-Dead Chinese Leader

Former Vice President Joe Biden mistakenly claimed on Monday that he worked on the Paris Climate Accord with former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping — who died more than 20 years before its signing.

Zach Parkinson

Joe Biden claimed tonight that he worked with Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping on the Paris Climate Accord.

Except the current Chinese President is Xi Jinping.

Deng Xiapoing left office in 1992 and has been dead for 23 years.

Biden made the gaffe while citing his accomplishments in President Barack Obama’s administration.

“One of the things I’m proudest of is getting passed, getting moved, getting in control of the Paris Climate Accord,” Biden said in a speech at the College of Charleston. “I’m the guy who came back after meeting with Deng Xiaoping and making the case that I believe China will join if we put pressure on them. We got almost 200 nations to join.”

Xiaoping served as the leader of China from 1978 until his retirement in 1992, and passed away in 1997. Xi Jinping, China’s current president, came to power 2013 and signed the country onto the 2016 agreement.

In June 2017, President Trump announced that the U.S. would withdraw from the agreement, stating that accord will “undermine the economy” and “puts [the United States] at a permanent disadvantage.”

In addition to the Xiaoping gaffe, Biden bizarrely declared in a campaign speech that he is a “candidate for the United States Senate” and that people could “vote for the other Biden” if they prefer one of his rivals.

“My name is Joe Biden. I’m a Democratic candidate for the United States Senate. Look me over, if you like what you see, help out. If not, vote for the other Biden,” the 77-year-old said at the First in the South Dinner.

Biden’s confusing comments come as Democrat primary candidates are scheduled to debate in Charleston Tuesday evening. The former vice president faces increasing pressure to give a standout performance as his “firewall” in the Palmetto State crumbles in the face of a surging Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). The Vermont senator is fresh off a decisive victory in Nevada caucuses on Saturday. Earlier this month, he placed first the New Hampshire primary and won the popular vote in Iowa. In a survey released Monday, the Public Policy Polling outfit said Biden leads South Carolina with 36 percent of support and Sanders is in second at 21 percent.
