TSA chief ousted after airport security flunks test, misses most weapons, explosives

The acting chief of the Transportation Security Administration was ousted late Monday night after an embarrassing new report found that airport security officers badly failed a new test, missing almost every firearm and explosive investigators tried to sneak by them.

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson announced the move, saying Melvin Carraway had been “reassigned” to another part of the department and his deputy would take over, serving until the Senate can confirm a new chief.

Earlier in the night Mr. Johnson had said he’d just been given a classified briefing on the inspector general’s findings that found a major loophole in security that could allow people to sneak prohibited items by TSA screeners and into what were supposed to be secure areas of airports.

Mr. Johnson said the preliminary findings were classified and said it wasn’t “appropriate or prudent” to talk about them — but ABC News reported that IG investigators managed to sneak contraband material by TSA screeners in 67 of 70 tests.

Mr. Johnson said he’s demanded TSA come up with new screening procedures aimed at fixing the “specific vulnerabilities” the IG found, and said he’s ordered new training for all TSA officers. He also demanded that equipment be re-tested.

Give me a break reassigned one man will not fix this mess.  Perhaps better screening when hiring would help.  Or maybe instead of grouping all the citizens they actually looked for bombs etc instead of people's private parts.

Of Course they were classified...Why would you tell the entire country that TSA SUCKS, and always has. It was a way to put stupid and lazy people to work for really good wages????  They were too busy fondling my daughter and my sister, both very blond and very cute, to bother with the idiot behind me. After the airport went yellow and all were asked to deplane, did they tell us that everything was OK. BS they took that Bastard into custody and was arrested for trying to take down the plane! Jerkamia johnson "claims" preliminary findings are "classified"?  Really, FOX NEWS and others have already publicly announced the 96% FAILURE rating- - doesn't that give you confidence about flying?  As for the "reassignment", Carraway was, simply, transferred "back to" the DHS.   My, so much "security" we have, don't we?

In the government no one ever gets fired they get reassigned to a better job paying more money. After all you do not want the person to have a mental breakdown or jeopardize their pension.

I called my reps about this and told them to DE-FUND the TSA or privatize it. I also asked when they molest children women the elderly and disabled how many rags do they pull to the side and search?? Going back about a year ago I called McCaskills office and asked that question and was called a racists and hung up on.

Needless to say I did not get an answer as they did not know (why would they not know??) I said the one that was relieved why was he not FIRED?? again no answer. i will call again today and ask the same question.

With all the calls I make I am surprise the black suburbans and black helicopters have not come for me yet to re-educate me.

Reassigned?  He should be fired along with every single TSA agent who flunked the "test" and Jeh, too.  Reagan fired the air traffic controllers, time to fire the TSA perps because many of them are. I refuse to fly since the TSA has been put in place and only did so with great angst because of their horrible condescending attitude to travelers. That's when I decided never again. We drive or we don't go.
