Stanford law prof: Second Amendment is about restricting gun rights

“It’s fanciful to think that guns in the hands of citizens acts as a realistic check,” said Donohue. “They’re not really trained to do so. And it’s fanciful to think that the military would ever turn on U.S. citizens.”

A Stanford University law professor took the view that the Second Amendment permits strong gun control, telling the crowd that “restriction has to be at the core” of the right to carry a gun.

John J. Donohue, a member of the Stanford Law School faculty, made his remarks during a debate with attorney Donald Kilmer, an adjunct professor at Lincoln Law School of San Jose.

“I support the right to self-defense,” said Donohue during the debate, according to The Stanford Review. “But that doesn’t mean that you have a right to high-capacity magazines.”

Don,

You are exactly right.  With the MARXIST/SOCIALIST/COMMUNISTS, every word of the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights is twisted into a meaning that is 180 degrees out from what the framers meant originally.  And when they say these things, somehow, we are supposed to accept their lies.

Damn communist law school professors will say any thing to get the guns away from the people, The second amendment or any part of the bill of rights say nothing along the lines this idiot professor talks about, disgusting!

Must have been one of those "self credentialed" Obama sycophants. The 2nd Amendment was clearly written to safeguard the populous from a tyrannical government which the Founders both lived under and revolted against. Stanford just got its self a black eye in the reputation department. If this is the kind of moron that teaches there, time to upgrade to a real university with standards. - Dr. Jim Garrow -

citizens owning guns is  not about assisting the army but protecting the citizens from the government. This guy is probably a professor like Obama was a professor teaching the constitution.. I am reading a book "BEHOLD A PALE HORSE" by  William Cooper. It will scare the crap out of you. the mess we are in  is bigger than just our one government. If you believe what he is saying.

THE DEFINITION  OF "PROFESSOR," IS THE AUTHORITY TO SAY SOMETHING STUPID, THAT MAKES NO COMMON SENSE, IN THE REAL WORLD, AND ACTUALLY EXPECT OTHERS TO BELIEVE IT, BECAUSE OF YOUR TITLE,  OR MORE ELEGANTLY, "THE EPITOME OF STUPIDITY", EQUALS A PROFESSOR............OR, PLEASE BELIEVE ME, BECAUSE I"M A PROFESSOR, AND IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME, THEN MY YOUTH, AND MONEY AND STUDY WAS WASTED...................PROFESSOR, YOU ARE DELUDED, JUST LIKE ALL PEOPLE WHO OBTAIN THEIR POWER, AND AUTHORITY FROM A TITLE.

Funny how during the debate on the Constitution that the thought was that the whole body of the people would be armed....

The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States. ~Noah Webster (A Citizen of America)

I had my 11 year old son read this article.

Then I asked him what he thought.

He said "how would that guy like to have only one bullet in his gun for self defense, and the bad guy has ten?"

Kinda funny, but also sad, an 11 year old understand it, but a "law professor" doesn't !

We really should not have to argue with the idiots like this professor. Just having the argument causes the division in the U.S. So, why have we Americans failed to properly educate generations of professors, teachers, politicians????  Something wrong with our communist school system?

Our founders were Bible literate freedom and justice minded men. Have we left something important out of our government schools?

America's Christians have left too many generations behind by hiring the government socialists, Darwinists, and hedonists, to mis-educate their children for the last fifty years.

Now we are distracted into arguing with idiots instead of loving, leading, teaching, taking care of, and protecting our offspring in the Truth of God. We ought to be raising up wise, competent, and responsible offspring to fill positions as professors, teachers, and politicians...

I just have to smirk at the Tea Party "spinning their wheels"... while generation after generation is left behind and under the spell and delusions of professors like this one.

Mal. 4:6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I (the Lord) will come and strike the land with a curse.

Russ

you ask - why have we Americans failed to properly educate generations of professors, teachers, politicians????  Something wrong with our communist school system?

Charles William Eliot was president of Harvard University from 1869 to 1909. He transformed the university in many ways, one of the more significant was removing the words Christ and church from Harvard's seal/motto. Then Harvard employed Roscoe Pound as Dean of Harvard Law from 1916 through 1936, who fundamentally transformed our legal system by teaching and implementing case law over contract/constitutional original intent law through the graduates of Harvard Law.

This is a primary example of what has gone wrong in our communist school system, especially how it has effected our legal system and our founding principles. Why Americans are still revering Harvard graduates is beyond me.

Case law is about "evolving" law. Just like evolution, Mankind is "evolving and discovering" rules for society. Isn't that a slick way of deceiving people? Doesn't that empower the lawless to make laws for everyone else?

Common law, natural law, and contract law are firmly established and NOT EVOLVING. Black and white (good and evil) and perfect for yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

The people we argue with have no foundation in good and in Truth. Give them Truth, and they look for a way to distort, undermine, and obscure it.  Me thinks we need to unite under the banner of an All powerful God of truth and love, liberty and justice. virtue and mercy. Repent, invoke His Truth, shout it from the rooftops, and teach our children apart from the government schools, indoctrination, dumbing-down, and overwhelming unchurched peer pressure into sex, drugs, and irresponsibility. If we do what is right, how will the idiots stop us? Fathers need to be taught to take back their role to love, lead, teach, take care of, and protect their children and families.

Hmmm... might need to do something about the hirelings in the pulpit in order to reach the fathers and mothers with the Truth. Do you like the old revivalist Charles Finney?

Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits. If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours in a great degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the public press lacks moral discrimination, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the world loses its interest in religion, the pulpit is responsible for it. If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it. Let us not ignore this fact, my dear brethren; but let us lay it to heart, and be thoroughly awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation.

Really well said !!!

He has a Law degree ???  Who help him pass his Bar exam?? Had to be Obama types.  What does that say about Stanford ? More evidence that the Communist/socialist are doing their best to dumb down our Country.

Deep State Treason:  Former State Dept. Official Under Trump Tells China To Quit Negotiating Until Trump Is Removed In 2020

Deep state traitors no longer hide their deep hatred for the American people —

Mrs. Susan Thornton, the former acting assistant secretary of state in the Trump administration, told her Beijing audience to stop negotiating until President Trump is removed from office in 2020.

Until July 2018, she was Acting Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs at the Department of State and led East Asia policy making amid crises with North Korea, escalating trade tensions with China, and a fast-changing international environment.

The Conservative Treehouse and The South China Morning News reported:

A former official in the Trump administration has said that China can weather the storm brought by the trade war with the United States but might have to “keep steady, keep their heads down and wait” for change in the White House.

Susan Thornton, former acting assistant secretary of state to US President Donald Trump, told a gathering in Shanghai on Wednesday that she hoped a trade deal between the US and China could be concluded by next month.

But the reality was that it would “take a while” for China and the US to talk about cooperation again, Thornton, who in 20 years rose to become the US State Department’s chief negotiator for East Asia and Pacific affairs, told the South China Morning Post.

“I want to be optimistic,” said Thornton, whose 27-year career in Washington ended in July. “I tell all our foreign counterparts they should keep steady, keep their heads down and wait. [They should] try to not let anything change dramatically.”

“If this sceptical attitude towards talking diplomacy continues in this administration, you might have to wait till another administration,” Thornton said at an event held by National Committee of US-China relations and Shanghai’s American Chamber.
