Philly Cop Ambushed, Shot ‘in Name of Islam’

Authorities say a Philadelphia police officer is recovering after he was shot several times during an ambush late Thursday night in West Philadelphia.

Philadelphia police commissioner Richard Ross says the officer was sitting in his patrol car around 11:30 p.m. at 60th and Spruce Streets when a gunman fired 13 shots through the driver’s side of the car.

Police are calling it an “attempted assassination.”

In a press conference, Commissioner Ross said the gun used in the attack was a stolen police firearm.

The officer, 33-year-old Jesse Hartnett, was struck three times in his arm, authorities say.

“Shots fired! I’m shot! I’m bleeding heavily!” Hartnett can be heard yelling on police radio.

Commissioner Ross says the suspect has given a full confession, saying he did it in the name of Islam.

Sources say the suspect’s full confession of the alleged attack was written down and recorded on video.

Police sources identify the suspect as Edward Archer, of Yeadon.

“When you look at the video, this is one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen,” Commissioner Ross said. “This guy tried to execute the police officer. The police officer had no idea he was coming. It’s amazing he’s alive.”

Hartnett was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he underwent surgery for a broken arm. Ross says the officer’s arm suffered significant damage and that he has a long road to recovery, but he is expected to be okay.

His father, Robert Hartnett says, “It’s going to be a tough road, but he’s a tough guy… I told him I love him, and I’m proud of him and he is an excellent person.”

Hartnett returned fire and struck the 30-year-old suspect at least three times. The suspect tried to escape on foot, authorities say, but was quickly caught and taken to the hospital.

Sources say the wounded officer told investigators that Archer walked up to the car, appeared to be about to ask for directions when he pulled a 9 mm and opened up with 13 shots.  The officer was hit then fired back and the suspect was also wounded, but he does not have life-threatening injuries.

DA Seth Williams says “I’m very thankful the officer is alive. This shows us the need for smarter laws when it relates to guns on the street. My office is going to do all that we can to ensure the defendant is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf released the following statement: ‘We are thankful that Officer Hartnett is alive and not facing life-threatening injuries after being ambushed. We wish him and his family the best during his recovery. This alleged intentional act of violence against an officer seeking to help a fellow citizen is horrifying and has no place in Pennsylvania.’

Hartnett is an 18th district officer with five years on the force. The FBI is now assisting in the investigation.

I want to say that yes, muslims should be denied access legally to guns, even being an American, if you have sworn allegiance to allah and islam, then you are technically no longer an American citizen and your rights have been stripped from you.

Islam is a religion of hate. The religion of terrorists. Not only should not own guns they have no place in America.

I totally agree with you

Excellent and perfect! I love this reply

I disagree if the government claims that our returning vets are possible domestic terrorists and not allowed to own firearms then I say these goat hummping rag heads are a more serious threat

There are laws on the books that state specificially that "gun control" laws are Unconstitutional and are not valid.

Check the 1965 Immigration Act that modified the 1952 Act.

I have to agree with you Oren. Given this they should not have guns!

The problem is that Islam is not just a religion. It s a system of living that includes Sharia law which has provisions that are completely against the Constitution, and therefore illegal. That "system" also calls for submission to Islam or or death for non-Muslims. The U.S. Constitution does not allow for killing without trial in a court of law, and we are not talking about Sharia law. So the real question is whether or not U.S. citizen Muslims are willing to renounce Sharia law and that is what must be mandatory or strip them of their citizenship and deport them to the country where their family originate or put them in camps. Once they have lost their citizenship by failing to renounce Sharia law, then they will have no 2nd amendment or other rights.

Well stated! KUDOS..

Al, we deny several different catagories of "Citizens" thier right to guns. Felons, Mentally ill, Mentally Incompetant, just to name a few. These are catagories of people, not individuals. Yes the individual is the one denied but it is because they fall into one of these catagories. The fact that Muslims are the ones that are, in the vast majority of cases, the ones perpetrating the terror, should be, in the judgment of any rational person, sufficient reason to deny the catagory of "Muslim". To answer the question before it is asked, "does that mean we should "profile Muslims?" In a word "YES". That is exactly what I mean. They have earned it. PC be damned.

Good one Edward.

Joe Biden On Violence Against Women:   We Have To Keep ‘Punching At It, And Punching At It, And Punching At It’

The audience laughed as he said this.

Former Vice President Joe Biden said that America needs to be “punching” back to combat violence against women during Wednesday’s Democratic debate.

Biden was asked if he would tackle specific issues regarding the #MeToo movement at the beginning of his presidency, if he were to be elected. The former vice president previously sponsored the 1994 Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), which aimed to protect victims of domestic violence.

The presidential candidate responded to the question about assaulting women by using the phrase “punching” repeatedly, apparently not thinking about the implications of using such a word.

“No man has a right to raise a hand to a woman in anger other than in self-defense, and that rarely ever occurs,” Biden said. “So we have to just change the culture, period, and keep punching at it and punching at it and punching at it. No, I really mean it.”

A few people laughed in the audience as he said this.

Biden added that it is important to pass the Violence Against Women Act, which has passed in the House and held up in the Senate. The former Vice President also suggested that America has to “fundamentally change the culture” of how women are treated, noting that it is “everyone’s responsibility.”

“It’s a gigantic issue, and we have to make it clear from the top, from the president on down that we will not tolerate it,” Biden said. “We will not tolerate this culture.”
