Sharpton Promises ‘Season of Civil Disobedience’ in Response to Sessions Nomination

National Action Network president Rev. Al Sharpton promised a “season of civil disobedience” in reaction to the nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) for attorney general in the Trump administration.

Sharpton, an MSNBC host, said activists have planned a march in Washington on Jan. 14 during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend to protest the Sessions nomination. Sharpton recalled spending 90 days in jail for protesting on U.S. Navy land against military exercises on the island of Vieques in 2001 when George W. Bush was president, adding that civil disobedience usually works because it changes policy.

“We’re not just doing this to be doing it. We do it because it can lead to change and, believe me, there will be a season of civil disobedience particularly around the Sessions nomination,” he said Friday on a conference call with other civil rights organizations’ leaders such as Cornell William Brooks, president and CEO of the NAACP, and Janet Murguia, president and CEO of the National Council of La Raza.

The political activists on the call said Sessions has a poor record on issues such as civil rights, immigrant rights and LGBT rights. The activists said Sessions’ confirmation hearing should be delayed so a more thorough review of Sessions’ record can be conducted. Brooks focused most of his criticism of Sessions on voting rights in particular.

“Senator Sessions, over the course of many years, his support for voting rights has been a matter of vacillating between indifference and out-and-out hostility,” said Brooks. “He has not acknowledged the reality of voter suppression while loudly in faith of voter ID laws predicated on the myth of voter fraud.”

Brooks criticized Sessions for supporting a voter ID law in Alabama.

“This is not the kind of person we need to serve as attorney general,” he said.

Sharpton said civil rights activists must remind senators that the nation is “watching” how they vote on Sessions' nomination. He pondered how the government could justify having Sessions follow Eric Holder, the nation’s first African-American attorney general, and Loretta Lynch, the nation’s first African-American female attorney general.

How about jailing Sharpton for $5 million In back taxes. KKK invented by Democrats.

This is obvious Sedition.  Why can't we jail these creeps?

I support a National voter ID law and if it's to much trouble for any to get it, you simply don't vote. Don't like it, move to mexico, Cuba or Venezuela but just get out of America we don't want you here. That also goes for lazy non contributors to a orderly Republic.
I don't support anything that Sharpton and his ilk represent.

Looks like the leaders in the black community are gearing up for war.

Yes, they have been gearing up for many years, its time for white males to start taking this seriously, along with the many radical islamic settlements across our country....

all this hack needs is his bull horn

I am for gun control like AS wants with a specific caveat: This would pertain only to registered voting democrats with the exception of military men and women and first responders. All voting card carrying democrats should be banned from owning firearms. That would satisfy their quest to water down the 2nd amendment by 30%-40%? Then...any demlib caught with the possession of a firearm would get a heavy fine and imprisonment. They would be happy gun control measures are being taken. Problem solved!

If they can succeed there, you'd be next!

Very good point Pipeman

President Trump should ask for all the Black cops and Black leaders that oppose this racist, to come to DC to be the security force and let them arrest EVERY ONE of them that break the law in any way. Pay all their expenses to do so and I would bet there would be more than enough to keep this idiot and his followers in check.

I would bet anything that Lt. Col. Allen West would be a leader and do it for free!!

James, I'll back that bet. Lt. Col. Allen B. West is my kind of leader, too. He would make mincemeat out of those big-mouthed wimps while jailing them in GITMO!!!

Newsweek’s Headquarters
Raided By The NYPD

The headquarters of Newsweek was raided by the NYPD Thursday morning. Police reportedly took photos of the magazine’s servers.

New York Post reports:

About two dozen NYPD officers and investigators from the Manhattan district attorney’s office raided the offices of Newsweek and its parent company, IBT Media, on Thursday.

IBT Media was co-founded by Jonathan Davis and Etienne Uzac. The IRS placed a $1.2 million federal tax lien against Uzac in December 2017.

The agents were said to be photographing servers in the offices, but not downloading any files at the offices on 7 Hanover Square, according to sources.

Few details have emerged from the raid.

“Looking into reports that the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office @ManhattanDA raided Newsweek/IBT Offices today….sources say police have been there for hours. The DA has declined to comment,” tweeted reporter Avi Asher-Schapiro.

Newsweek is also in the news Thursday after an “insider” told The Wrap editor Jon Levine that the magazine has abandoned journalism for “rage clicks,” in the Trump-era.

“Newsweek was once a premiere media organization and an incredible springboard for young journalists hoping to grow a name for themselves,” the source told Levine.

“The company culture has turned the newsroom into a toxic work environment, while the publication has descended into a content farm for last-resort clickbait,” the source added.
