Sharpton Promises ‘Season of Civil Disobedience’ in Response to Sessions Nomination

National Action Network president Rev. Al Sharpton promised a “season of civil disobedience” in reaction to the nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) for attorney general in the Trump administration.

Sharpton, an MSNBC host, said activists have planned a march in Washington on Jan. 14 during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend to protest the Sessions nomination. Sharpton recalled spending 90 days in jail for protesting on U.S. Navy land against military exercises on the island of Vieques in 2001 when George W. Bush was president, adding that civil disobedience usually works because it changes policy.

“We’re not just doing this to be doing it. We do it because it can lead to change and, believe me, there will be a season of civil disobedience particularly around the Sessions nomination,” he said Friday on a conference call with other civil rights organizations’ leaders such as Cornell William Brooks, president and CEO of the NAACP, and Janet Murguia, president and CEO of the National Council of La Raza.

The political activists on the call said Sessions has a poor record on issues such as civil rights, immigrant rights and LGBT rights. The activists said Sessions’ confirmation hearing should be delayed so a more thorough review of Sessions’ record can be conducted. Brooks focused most of his criticism of Sessions on voting rights in particular.

“Senator Sessions, over the course of many years, his support for voting rights has been a matter of vacillating between indifference and out-and-out hostility,” said Brooks. “He has not acknowledged the reality of voter suppression while loudly in faith of voter ID laws predicated on the myth of voter fraud.”

Brooks criticized Sessions for supporting a voter ID law in Alabama.

“This is not the kind of person we need to serve as attorney general,” he said.

Sharpton said civil rights activists must remind senators that the nation is “watching” how they vote on Sessions' nomination. He pondered how the government could justify having Sessions follow Eric Holder, the nation’s first African-American attorney general, and Loretta Lynch, the nation’s first African-American female attorney general.

The next four weeks will be critical... it appears that the Establishment in both political parties are coordinating to remove Trump... for cause.  The latest are reports of 'intel' claiming Trump is compromised... by serious, but uncorroborated, salacious materials, which the Russian's have on him... This information was supposedly leaked by unnamed intel sources/agents.

Such garbage is not worthy of being reported and should have been met with outrage by the leadership in the GOP... Yet, they remain silent.  We  note that Trumps AG appointment, Sen. Sessions, is being cold shouldered and apparently hung out to dry, by Sen. McConnell... who refuses to use his power to fast track his appointment, along with other Trump Cabinet appointments... All signs of a silent but deadly resistance within the GOP.

Wake up Donald... apparently, the GOP Establishment is not your friend and those political hacks are looking to slice and dice you... feeding you to your enemies, the first chance they get.  Go on the offense... Go around them. Prepare warrants for the arrest of as many corrupt political operatives in both parties as possible... issuing them in the first few days after your inauguration Use your current  legal resources and the new US Attorneys, and their associate staffs, to prepare the necessary evidence to get indictments... ASAP after your inauguration. Time is critical..

Trump cannot look weak or attempt to schmooze his way thru this mess... The Establishment political class will eat his lunch and so far appear seem to be doing it.  His appointees are not meeting favorable, expedited, treatment by the GOP leadership in the Senate...This is not a good sign at all. Stop paying attention to the rhetoric of the RINO's and watch what they permit or do... Delays to Trumps appointees are coming... Delays that McConnell can kill if he wants. Delays that will keep Trump from wielding the power he needs to isolate and pursue the heads of corruption in DC... before they can muster support to remove or marginalize Trump.

sharpton should be executed!

People without jobs, living on public money, have too much time on their hands to cause trouble for people working to support the nation.

When you go on welfare you should be required to do something productive even if you can't find a job.

That's what they do, protest for a living!

Those two nominations and the way those two people conducted themselves clearly prove they are reprehensible individuals.

So from Holder who was under contempt of Congress  till he quit as AG and lynch who performed a self recuse when talking the Slick Willie in his plane on the tarmac BOTH THOSE TWO ARE CRIMINALS APPOINTED BY THE HEAD CRIMINAL OBAMA. NOW FOR FAT AL SHARPTON AND HIS BIG MOUTH....SHUT THE TRAP AND SIT DOWN AL!

And we can hope Trump DELIVERS a season of JAIL TIME FOR the RACE PIMP!

Colonel,

No, the "opposition" (GOP and Dems) are NOT "eating" Trump's lunch; he is eating theirs!

"Story" after false story is written and promoted on a daily basis, only to be revealed as false the following day.   Yet, the stories keep coming.   It is as though the Media has become the National Enquirer where "reporters" just make it all up and treat it as though it came straight out of the Bible and mouth of God.

The more the Media and the Anti-Trumpers lie, the more damage they do to themselves.

As Lincoln said, "You can fool some of the People some of the time.   You can fool some of the People all of the time.   You can even fool all the People some of the time.   But, you can't fool all the People all the time."

We need to keep the faith.

Oren

He has made a threat. Lock him up and then ban him from America.

All he wants is a bunch of dead blacks and whites to start a race war.

Can you start a war if you're.......................DEAD?   Sorry, I just couldn't resist ;o))  Well...I could, guess I just didn't wanna' .

Maybe the President should ask the new director of the IRS if Al has paid his taxes... and if not let Sharpton practice his dissimulation and civil disobedience from the Ft. Leavenworth Federal Corrections Prison.

The term, civil disobedience, was hijacked from Henry David Thoreau's essay on the subject, On the Duty of Civil Disobedience (original title, "Resistance to Civil Government").  Thoreau espoused peaceful and passive resistance to governmental "authorites"; peaceful and passive such as refusal to stand and walk to the police vehicle, forcing the officer(s) to carry the "suspect".

I wonder just exactly how "mr." sharpton will interpret Thoreau's peaceful, passive civil disobedience.

Some quotes from Thoreau's essay:

When the power is once in the hands of the people, a majority are permitted, and for a long period
continue, to rule is not because they are most likely to be in the right, nor because this seems fairest
to the minority, but because they are physically the strongest.
I cannot for an instant recognize that political organization as my government which is the slave's
government also.

All men recognize the right of revolution; that is, the right to refuse allegiance to, and to resist, the
government, when its tyranny or its inefficiency are great and unendurable. But almost all say that such
is not the case now. But such was the case, they think, in the Revolution of '75. If one were to tell me
that this was a bad government because it taxed certain foreign commodities brought to its ports, it is
most probable that I should not make an ado about it, for I can do without them.

There are thousands who are in opinion opposed to slavery and to the war, who yet in effect do nothing to
put an end to them; who, esteeming themselves children of Washington and Franklin, sit down with their
hands in their pockets, and say that they know not what to do, and do nothing; who even postpone the
question of freedom to the question of free trade, and quietly read the prices-current along with the
latest advices from Mexico, after dinner, and, it may be, fall asleep over them both.

It is not a man's duty, as a matter of course, to devote himself to the eradication of any, even to most
enormous, wrong; he may still properly have other concerns to engage him; but it is his duty, at least,
to wash his hands of it, and, if he gives it no thought longer, not to give it practically his support.

JUST IN->  Pelosi Announces House Resolution To Condemn Trump’s ‘Racist, Xenophobic Tweets’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced Monday that Democrats will offer a resolution condemning President Donald Trump’s “racist” tweets against Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN).

Pelosi wrote a letter to House Democrats announcing that they will draft a resolution to condemn Trump’s “racist” tweets against progressive Democrats.

“This weekend, the President went beyond his own low standards using disgraceful language about Members of Congress,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi wrote.

“This morning, the President doubled down on his attacks on our four colleagues suggesting they apologize to him,” she added. “Let me be clear, our Caucus will continue to forcefully respond to these disgusting attacks.”

President Trump taunted the “squad” of far-left first-term progressive Democrats on Sunday, telling them to go back and fix the places they came from before telling the rest of the country what to do.

Trump’s tweets caused an uproar amongst the media and Hollywood celebrity classes, and now, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D–TX) hopes to capitalize on the president’s message by condemning them in Congress.

Lee said she will draft a resolution of condemnation.

“Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee will be drafting a Resolution of Condemnation for the words used by President Trump about four members of the House of Representatives over the weekend,” Jackson Lee’s office wrote:

So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly......

....it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!

President Trump’s remarks seemed particularly directed at Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who is a former Somalian refugee.

Omar said Friday that the president “shouldn’t be in office” and told an audience of high school students that America was failing to uphold its promise to be a just society.

Rep. Omar said Trump was “stoking white nationalism” after he tweeted that some progressive congresswomen should “go back” to where they came from.

“You are stoking white nationalism because you are angry that people like us are serving in Congress and fighting against your hate-filled agenda,” Omar wrote:

Ilhan Omar  @IlhanMN

As Members of Congress, the only country we swear an oath to is the United States.

Which is why we are fighting to protect it from the worst, most corrupt and inept president we have ever seen. https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/1150381394234941448

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez claimed Monday that President Trump’s remarks serve as the “hallmark language of white supremacists.”

President Trump tweeted Monday that Democrats need to apologize for the “foul language” and “terrible things they have said”:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

When will the Radical Left Congresswomen apologize to our Country, the people of Israel and even to the Office of the President, for the foul language they have used, and the terrible things they have said. So many people are angry at them & their horrible & disgusting actions!

Donald J. Trump  @realDonaldTrump

If Democrats want to unite around the foul language & racist hatred spewed from the mouths and actions of these very unpopular & unrepresentative Congresswomen, it will be interesting to see how it plays out. I can tell you that they have made Israel feel abandoned by the U.S.
