Law enforcement agencies struggling to fill their ranks or connect with their increasingly diverse populations are turning to immigrants to fill the gap.

Most agencies in the country require officers or deputies to be U.S. citizens, but some are allowing immigrants who are legally in the country to wear the badge. From Hawaii to Vermont, agencies are allowing green-card holders and legal immigrants with work permits to join their ranks.

At a time when 25,000 non-U.S. citizens are serving in the U.S. military, some feel it's time for more police and sheriff departments to do the same. That's why the Nashville Police Department is joining other departments to push the state legislature to change a law that bars non-citizens from becoming law enforcement officers.

Department spokesman Don Aaron said they want immigrants who have been honorably discharged from the military to be eligible for service.

"Persons who have given of themselves in the service to this country potentially have much to offer Tennesseans," he said. "We feel that ... would benefit both the country and this city."
Current rules vary across departments.

Some, like the Chicago and Hawaii police departments, allow any immigrant with a work authorization from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to become an officer. That means people in the country on temporary visas or are applying for green cards can join.

Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Justin Mullins said the department usually struggles to fill trooper positions in less populous corners of the state, including patrol sectors high up in the mountains. He said immigrants from Canada, the Bahamas, the United Kingdom, Mexico and Central America who are willing to live in those remote places have helped the agency fill those vacancies.

"People that want to live there and build a family there and work there is a little more difficult to find," Mullins said. "People moving from out of state, or out of the country, if they're willing to work in these areas, then that's great for us."

Other agencies, like the Cincinnati Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, require that officers at least have a pending citizenship application on file with the federal government. And others, like the Burlington, Vt., and Boulder, Colo., police departments, require that officers be legal permanent residents, or green-card holders.

With more immigrants moving to places far from the southern border or away from traditional immigrant magnets like New York City or Miami, agency leaders say it's important to have a more diverse police force to communicate with those immigrants and understand their culture. Bruce Bovat, deputy chief of operations in Burlington, said their immigrant officers help the agency be more "reflective of the community we serve."

Look for more danger than ever before. It is time for the American to speak up and take a stand now. With this evil already running rampant in America now, there will only be more division, more hatred for the true American People of the United States of America. America is in serious danger now, if this occurs.

I agree

You want to know why, read the book, "The turner diaries" and it will explain why this is the best choice for law enforcement, to accomplish Obamas, "mission".

I DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS IDEA ONLY IF THE IMMIGRANTS ARE LEGAL IMMIGRANTS AND CAN SPEAK ENGLISH AND UNDERSTAND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND THEY THEY SWEAR TO AN OATH TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TO PROTECT & DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION FROM ALL ENEMIES FOREIGN & DOMESTIC AND THAT THEY WILL NOT LISTEN TO RADICAL LEFT WING ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS THE SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER AND THAT THERE ARE NO ISLAMISTS HIRED BY POLICE DEPARTMENTS AND THAT THEY WILL DEFY ANY & ALL ORDERS TO OPEN FIRE ON CONSTITUTIONAL FREEDOM LOVING AMERICAN PATRIOTS!!!

government officials swear to protect, defend, and uphold the Constitution but they don't so we have these kind of issues to deal with!!!!!!

If these people are legally in the U.S. , why not allow them in the force....Might help if more cops were bilingual....

It doesn't occur to you that some of these people may be looking forward to the opportunity of getting by legally with shooting Americans for no reason at all????  Or that with the militarization of our PDs all over the country, that they'll be used to round up "terrorists" like conservatives?  Patriots?  Militias?  Oath Keepers?

Remember that Obama promised a civilian police force bigger and better than our military. We can thank all of our liberal voters that wanted to be first to elect a Illegal Black Muslim who hates USA and its people. When he calls for martial law guess who will have his back?  The administration has many of anti Americans pegged perfectly when they called us COWARDS-STUPID and LAZY. I remember long time ago one Russian leader said that America would fall with out a shoot being fired.

If a Legal immigrant has served and is honorably discharged ,He is not an immigrant he is a Citizen, many legal immigrants have been doing this since the 60ies that i know of. Illegal Immigrants have No business severing in the Military or in Law keeping Period . If they want to be a cop then go home to your natieve country and be a cop.

        YOU ARE RIGHT !!

Just another part of Obama's Marshall Law plan. He knows of implemented Americans will not attack each other but put an entitled illegal in and they will fight for all their "freebies" Beware of what's to come. Yet another way Obama plans to transform America!

Florida Sheriff — “I Will Not Enforce Assault Weapons Ban, Neither Will Most Sheriffs”

Dennis Lemma, who is the Sheriff in Central Florida’s Seminole County, told a group of 2nd Amendment activists recently that he would not enforce an assault weapons ban that could soon become Florida law if the “Ban Assault Weapons Now” amendment passes in the Sunshine State.

According to News965, the ban has the following specifications.

The amendment proposed in the state legislature would ban possession of assault weapons, which are defined as “semiautomatic rifles and shotguns capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition at once, either in fixed or detachable magazine, or any other ammunition feeding device.”

Lemma, an ardent supporter of the 2nd Amendment and a first term sheriff who is running for re-election, said this about whether or not he would enforce such a law.

“It’s not only that I wouldn’t, the majority of sheriffs across the state would not do it,” Lemma said in the video. It’s up to the sheriffs what they are willing to enforce.”
