Perry Grand Juror Was An Active Democratic Party Delegate During Jury Proceedings

Article Highlights
  • Grand jury member Rho Chalmers was an active delegate to the Texas Democratic Party while jury proceedings were ongoing.
  • She attended and photographed a partisan speech by Democratic state Sen. Kirk Watson, a month after he testified before the grand jury.
  • Chalmers served on the Rules Committee of the Texas Democratic Party convention in June, while grand jury proceedings were ongoing.
  • Although Chalmers said her decision to indict was "not a political decision," multiple Facebook pages make clear that she is a partisan Democratic activist.

Rho Chalmers, who disclosed to the Houston Chronicle yesterday that she was a member of the grand jury that indicted Texas Gov. Rick Perry, was an active delegate to the Texas Democratic Party convention during grand jury proceedings. Chalmers’ active participation in Democratic state politics is important because she claimed yesterday to the Houston Chronicle that her decision to indict Perry, a Republican, was not based on politics.

“For me, it’s not a political decision,” Chalmers told the newspaper. “That’s what a grand jury is about – take the emotion out of it and look at the facts and make your best decision based on your life experience.”

More troubling, however, is the fact that Chalmers attended, photographed, and commented on an event with Democratic state Sen. Kirk Watson while grand jury proceedings were ongoing.

Watson was a witness in front of the grand jury. On June 27, 2014, Chalmers shared a photo of the Watson event on a community Facebook page she started called Developer’s Dungeon. “Senator Kirk Watson telling the story of the Wendy Davis fillibuster (sic),” she wrote in a comment accompanying the picture.

The grand jury was selected in April of 2014 and its proceedings did not conclude until it returned two indictments of Perry last week. While grand jurors are not generally prohibited from engaging in political activity, Chalmers apparent giddiness at attending an event for a grand jury witness calls into question her ability to objectively scrutinize his testimony. Watson had testified before Chalmers and the rest of her colleagues on the grand jury just one month before Chalmers attended his event. Knowingly seeking out participation in an event featuring a grand jury witness while grand jury proceedings were ongoing also seems highly questionable.

May God Bless you Rick.

Only further proves this BS indictment against Rick Perry is nothing but a witch hunt, a vain attempt by the Dems to discredit him and, I have a hunch, petty retribution in an indirect way by the Obama administration for his daring to be defiant. Even Gov. Perry knows himself that this whole charade is nothing but a farce; the fact that he stopped off for an ice cream cone after being booked was his subtle way of conveying that message.

I have nothing but disgust for these democraps. They are from hell! Thier reward will come. God Bless Rick Perry.

I am beginning to think that Democrats are like cockroaches, they are in every corner, under every board, and you can never get rid of them all.

No Honor, no self-respect just politics. Following the white House lead they don't need real laws, they just get in the way.  I hope she gets taken apart. I wish Rick the best and thank him for having the guts to look these creeps in the eye and say "BRING IT ON!"

!! shock !!   a delusional manipulative progressive in Austin?? wow...

easy pickins, but try to find a sane person there. especially one with enough social status to get on a grand jury.

In Travis county.... that is a Dem strong hold.   Left over from the years of strangle hold the Dems had on Texas.   Seems the "new  lib people to Texas"  land there.   Plus they always have the U of Tx students who are passionate to vote... but do not have a clue about anything.   They are guided by their far left Prof and many are just out to spite their parents who just don't know anything.   When Ronnie Earl  charged Tom DeLay it took him a # of Grand Jury's to get the vote he wanted.   And that vote came shortly before this particular GJ would end.   The Foreman of the GJ strutted out to the microphone and announced they would get DeLay this time.   So much for Secret  GJ.

There is no democrat party. Call it what it really is. The party de la muerte. El communistas. No God, No country, No flag, No kids.Flag burning is freedom of speech, Child murder is settled law. Legalizing drugs for tax money. What more could they do to destroy the country? I know play cards. Squash American pride.

Teach anti American atheism in communist cucumber sex schools. Destroy the military. Give outer space to the Russians and hang up on 911 calls from Benghazi.  LEAVE AMERICANS TO DIE ON THE BATTLEFIELD AND BLAME NAM ON NIXON. Have their own communist media to cover up the high body count in Afghanistan. Take law abiding citizens guns away while rearming Al Queda and Isis. Other than that they are not bad people. Do you mind if I throw up?

Viva Christo Rey

They did the same thing to the Hammer Tom DeLay and they found it was all BS just like it will with Perry but you know the demoRats will make sure this damages him in some way.

Why certainly she weighed all the evidence against Gov.Perry that being that Gov.Perry is a Republican who is set to run for President in 2016 which he could win so that automatlcly made him GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY.For with holding funds from the Drunken Democrazy lush of a DA in Houston.Of course we all know that the fix was in to indict Gov.Perry for his defieing King OCrazys border surge with the 1000 National Guard sent to the Texas Mexico border.

I though all the proceedings including the jurors names were to be held in secret... did this woman violate the Grand Jury rules/laws if so ... she needs to be indicted.

YUP: President Trump Signs Great And Beautiful Trump Border Wall During Tour In San Diego

Embedded video

President Donald Trump visited the San Diego border on Wednesday to show off a newly constructed portion of the wall after a fundraising trip in California.

“It’s an amazing project,” Trump said, pointing to the 30-foot high barrier constructed with steel and concrete, noting that it also went six feet underground.

“If you think you’re going to cut it with a blow torch, that doesn’t work, because you hit the concrete, and then if you think you’re going to go through the concrete, that doesn’t work because we have very powerful rebar inside,” Trump said.

The president traveled via motorcade after a fundraiser to Otay Mesa, a community outside San Diego on the United States -Mexico border to review the latest constructed physical barrier.

He pointed out the new wall structure to the press, which was 24 miles of primary and secondary wall at the border.

“We have it covered underground, we have it covered overground,” Trump said.

The president was joined by acting Department of Homeland security Kevin McAllen and several other border security officials.

He said that over 44,000 bollard panels had been set up for the wall, which was then filled with concrete and rebar.

Trump admitted that he envisioned a solid concrete wall when he campaigned for president, but he was told by border officials that they preferred a wall constructed by concrete-filled bollards so they could see through it.

“It’s hardened concrete, very powerful concrete,” Trump said, pointing to the structure.

He added that the steel wall was designed to retain heat, making it harder to climb, plus having an anti-climbing system at the top.

“You can fry an egg on that wall,” he said. The president also acknowledged to reporters that he wanted the wall to be painted black and have spikes but said it was cheaper to let it remain naturally rust-colored.

“We can paint it later,” he said.

The president discussed his growing understanding of border barriers, noting that the Southern border would not need much more than 500 miles of wall to secure the border. He cited the existence of natural mountain and river barriers that prevented criminals from crossing. He did not rule out building additional barriers in the future but said it would depend on whether it was needed.

One border patrol agent spoke about the importance of the border wall to all of the agents, thanking the president for pushing forward on construction.

Trump said he met with Border Patrol prior to constructing the wall, picking the most effective structures to protect the border.

One border security official scoffed at the idea that the wall was a “vanity” project for the president.

“There’s a false narrative out there that this wall is the president’s vanity wall,” he said. “I’m here to tell you right now that that is false.”

He thanked Trump for listening to border patrol agents during the planning and construction process.

“You listened to the agents and you gave them exactly what they asked for,” he said.

One official with Trump confirmed that the structure was funded with regular Congressional appropriations in the FY 2017 and FY 2018 and that that the new wall replaced an inferior structure.

Trump said that he still considered the situation on the border a national emergency, but as more wall went up he could withdraw military forces.

“I hope you’re impressed,” he told reporters as he took questions about the project.

One worker told Trump of a tradition of workers signing the wall if they worked on the wall.

“I’ll sign it,” Trump said, and went to the wall and signed the steel barrier with a marker before encouraging other officials present to do the same.
