Pelosi To Introduce War Powers Resolution To “Limit The President’s Military Actions Regarding Iran”

Breaking — News... On Tea Party Command Center Blogger Spot

"Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) sent a ‘Dear Democratic Colleague” letter Sunday night stating she would be introducing a War Powers resolution this week to “limit” President Trump’s “military actions regarding Iran”. Pelosi said the resolution would set a thirty day deadline for Trump to cease hostilities unless authorized by Congress.

Pelosi said she was acting because Trump authorized the targeted killing of Iran Quds Force leader Major General Qassim Soleimani last Friday without consulting Congress. Pelosi called the killing of the architect of an Iranian proxy war on Americans that killed over 600 U.S. soldiers “provocative and disproportionate”  End of Quote

Pelosi is obviously unaware that a Congressional Resolution limiting the President's existing statutory war powers requires approval by both Houses of Congress and the President's signature.  The House is not able to pass binding legislation on this issue alone unilaterally.

All legislation and acts by the House... must be passed by both Houses of Congress, and signed by the President before any act of this nature becomes law... The only issues the House may act on unilaterally are non-binding Resolutions of the House, Articles of Impeachment, rules of the House, and expulsion of its own members.  All other legislative and House business must be approved by both Houses of Congress and the President must approve and sign the legislation before it becomes law or is enforceable.

The President may act to combat terrorist without further Congressional approval using his existing war powers and the existing Congressional Resolution declaring war on terror.

Congressional Resolution and Declaration of War on Terror, of 14 Sept 2001...This Resolution Authorizes War on Terrorism wherever it is found.  It has been used by every President since the Bush Administration to exercise the use of Military Force when engaging Terrorism.  This and the several other acts authorizing the use of military force provide Pres. Trump with the necessary authority to engage individuals, as well as, state actors who engage in terrorist operations.

Gen.Qassen Soleimani was the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard... (IRGC), Iran, and since 1998 commander of its Quds Force— the Quds Force is responsible for extraterritorial military and clandestine operations... it is the military group in Iran responsible for terrorist operations worldwide.

The Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), Pub. L. 107-40, codified at 115 Stat. 224 and passed as S.J.Res. 23 by the United States Congress on September 14, 2001, authorizes the use of United States Armed Forces against those responsible for the attacks on September 11, 2001 and any "associated forces".

The authorization granted the President the authority to use all "necessary and appropriate force" against those whom he determined "planned, authorized, committed or aided" the September 11th attacks, or who harbored said persons or groups. The AUMF was signed by President George W. Bush on September 18, 2001. In December 2016, the Office of the President published a brief interpreting the AUMF as providing Congressional authorization for the use of force against al-Qaeda and other militant terrorist groups.

The President has the Congressional Approval to wage the war on global terrorism... he doesn't need further authorization under the current AUMF's or the National Security Act.

Well I will bump it up again....:)

The House Resolution is NONBINDING... it merely transmits the intent of the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES... not Congress. It can not force the President to stop such lawful conduct.

This process is nothing more than political theater of the worst sort.  It puts our military in harm's way as such a resolution encourages our enemies to exploit the open divisions in our government... encouraging more violence.

You know the old say...:)

ALERT ALERT

Florida Sheriff — “I Will Not Enforce Assault Weapons Ban, Neither Will Most Sheriffs”

Dennis Lemma, who is the Sheriff in Central Florida’s Seminole County, told a group of 2nd Amendment activists recently that he would not enforce an assault weapons ban that could soon become Florida law if the “Ban Assault Weapons Now” amendment passes in the Sunshine State.

According to News965, the ban has the following specifications.

The amendment proposed in the state legislature would ban possession of assault weapons, which are defined as “semiautomatic rifles and shotguns capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition at once, either in fixed or detachable magazine, or any other ammunition feeding device.”

Lemma, an ardent supporter of the 2nd Amendment and a first term sheriff who is running for re-election, said this about whether or not he would enforce such a law.

“It’s not only that I wouldn’t, the majority of sheriffs across the state would not do it,” Lemma said in the video. It’s up to the sheriffs what they are willing to enforce.”
