A friend of mine were having this discussion and we concluded:
The Republicans who are agitating for a repeal of Obamacare would be far better off helping to develop and then agitating for a Republican substitute plan for health insurance. Where was the revolt from the right wing when Boehner agreed to the exemption for Congress?
The R’s just can’t continue being the party of “NO”; they just come across as chronic gripers and snipers, like a bunch of old curmudgeons. They can keep their principles and still propose positive plans to solve the country’s problems. But instead, the R’s are constantly playing defense, waiting for the next stupid idea from the Democrats and then trying to poke holes in it. They may be right, but wouldn’t they be better off proposing some actions that are in concert with their principles (whatever the hell those are any more; I don’t even know half the time), and let the Demos have to try to puncture them?
What is the Republican plan for health care?!!! Can you describe it so that I understand it? I can’t. “Obamacare sucks” is not a program. What is so frickin’ hard about coming up with something that has three to five points, and then pounding it home over and over and over again by everyone in the party?
And there’s more. Why are some Republicans sniping at other Republicans? Reagan always said the primary principle was never to speak ill of another Republican. I’m just sick of both establishment R’s and Tea Party R’s taking potshots at each other. Christie snipes at Rand Paul; Paul snipes at Christie. It’s chickenshit small ball. If they’re going to be in public service, it’s supposed to be Country First > Party Second > Self (dead last) Third. We have way too many politicians who have it backwards, and they’re in both parties.
