Obama to sign executive order raising minimum wage for federal contractors

President Obama, in the first of potentially many executive actions tied to his State of the Union address, will unilaterally increase the minimum wage for workers under new federal contracts to $10.10 an hour, from $7.25, in an effort to build momentum for a minimum wage hike for all Americans.

The executive order, which had been pushed by progressive Democratic lawmakers, applies to all contractors performing services for the federal government and would affect more than 2 million employees, according to an administration official.

Take our Poll:  Is Obama an Imperial President?

The president will use Tuesday night's address to press Congress to pass a Democratic plan to increase the federal wage to $10.10 over three years, then indexing it to inflation, while also raising the minimum wage for tipped workers, the official said.

Is there limits on how many executive orders an out of control president can sign?

Stupid is as stupid does.  Raising minimum wage prohibits negotiating down to worth, resulting in increased unemployment benefits (wealth redistribution), extracted from employees now having to do more work with less people, without getting a raise.  A liberal two-fer if ever there was one...Semper Fi

Good. Let him get more of his voters unemployed because the companies can't afford to pay them.

if you work hard and take responsibility the contractor will raise your wage, to keep you.

World's Greatest Quote that a Communist/ex-Communist, ever said, that is true !!

Federal workers, everyone took it as if it were all workers. No so. But cut the pay of our women and men in the US forces. And lets not cut pay to congress. Bad, bad I say.

Red diaper baby muslim poser in chief needs to be ousted.  Pathetic scum must go.  GOD BLESS AMERICA!

When is he going to raise social security up to keep up with the cost of living? We old folks have got to live too.

obummer will not allow any raises in social security, anyone over 75, that is not queer or is not a mooslime, we wants dead.

of course, article 1 section 7 of our constitution explicitly states that all bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives. So, the President cannot unilaterally raise the minimum wage because that act is a revenue raising act that must originate in the House of Representatives. Yes, even federal wages must originate in in the House, which is the reason there was a fight (use the term loosely) that shut the gov down because Obama insisted on raising the debt ceiling but could not until congress caved, which indeed happened. What Obama did here is blatantly lawless, congress needs to put a stop to it and they can by holding to their principles that revenue raising must originate in the House. You can be sure Obama will now claim that his action now qualifies as the debt of the U.S. and will again insist that congress "pay our bills."

If congress caves again He will have effectively gotten away with it. A valid 2014 campaign conversation must include to impeach for violations of our constitution that he swore to uphold. Further, in article 1 section 9 "No money shall be drawn from the treasury, but in consequence of appropriations made by law; and a regular statement and account of receipts and expenditures of all public money shall be published from time to time."

obummer can and does what-ever George Sorass tells him to do.

Florida Sheriff — “I Will Not Enforce Assault Weapons Ban, Neither Will Most Sheriffs”

Dennis Lemma, who is the Sheriff in Central Florida’s Seminole County, told a group of 2nd Amendment activists recently that he would not enforce an assault weapons ban that could soon become Florida law if the “Ban Assault Weapons Now” amendment passes in the Sunshine State.

According to News965, the ban has the following specifications.

The amendment proposed in the state legislature would ban possession of assault weapons, which are defined as “semiautomatic rifles and shotguns capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition at once, either in fixed or detachable magazine, or any other ammunition feeding device.”

Lemma, an ardent supporter of the 2nd Amendment and a first term sheriff who is running for re-election, said this about whether or not he would enforce such a law.

“It’s not only that I wouldn’t, the majority of sheriffs across the state would not do it,” Lemma said in the video. It’s up to the sheriffs what they are willing to enforce.”
