Figure the total  energy needed to build and maintain a wind turbine , call that input

Now figure the total Kw's that turbine will produce over its lifetime .. [thru-put]

ARE YOU STILL GOING TO TELL ME THAT WIND POWER IS VIABLE ?

The same issue applies to all energy sources

IF it requires a barrel of oil to extract a barrel of oil's energy equivalent in any form it is a looser as far as energy thru-put. 

When you compare all types of energy  The comparison should be in those terms 

Shallow Light sweet oil is close to the best for thru-put as far as fossil fuels, but hydroelectric power is actually #1 

Wind and most solar does not even break even when life expectancy is figured.

The fact is "IF" PEAK OIL" is a fact we are screwed because nothing compares with the energy density of light sweet oil, as far as portable energy with a high energy coefficient.

The only good choice is to build a bunch of thorium nuclear reactors as a bridge until we can figure out how to get better numbers from wind,solar,tidal,geo-thermal ET-AL..

Midevil warming period created the biggest boom in European  populations because of food production, they were farming in  Greenland , so it was warmer than it is today by several degrees. It was a time of plenty Vs famine. 

During the Roman empire there is evidence of the same kind of climate issues helped Rome but the climate changed!

Another group to look at the " Anasazi, "  flourished, but when we went into a colder period of CLIMATE CHANGE they all dies off.
