It came down to the addition of a single word for the a tree lighting ceremony, but that word carried enough significance for borough Councilwoman Charlene Storey to resign.

Minutes after the council voted 4-2 Thursday night to change the name of the ceremony from A Tree Lighting to A Christmas Tree Lighting, the councilwoman-at-large, left the meeting. She later submitted her letter of resignation with the municipal clerk's office.

"I cannot in good conscience continue to be part of a council that is exclusionary or to work with a Mayor who is such," Storey said in her letter.

When reached today, Storey said she regretted having to resign, but said the change "cuts non-Christians out of the loop and favors one religion."

Storey, who was raised Catholic but is now a "non-believer" and has never hidden that fact, said the issue is a matter of principle.

Changing the ceremony, she said, "turned it from a non-religious event to a religious one."

Storey said Mayor Carl Hokanson had briefly mentioned the idea of making the change several days ago. However, Storey said the resolution for the change was not listed on the agenda and she was surprised when it was brought up at the meeting.

She said she had checked other municipalities and only found events, tree lightings or holiday tree lightings, and none that included the word Christmas.

@ Marilyn----Love it, they jiving!!!     I would urge everyone, seriously, to add something to your outdoor Christmas Decor, that designates your Christianity.       It's us or them, in Texas, I moved into a neighborhood that has dozens of Nativity scenes, and I love knowing I live among Christians.     I put up one every year to honor the Birth of Christ.

Along with a Nativity Cresch,, I have decorated signs around my Property saying " Jesus is the Reason for the Season "!!!!

Hey Marilyn -

If the word "Christmas" tree got that Liberal to quit, maybe this will cause them to pack up & leave the U.S.

She won't be missed.

Then again, every liberal jerk likes to fall to their knees and apologize for upsetting the sensibilities of one bad she's white, she would have been blessed by The (not-so) Great -0- & praised for courage in the face of the "queen" of mean. Facing down and standing up for her principles of hating Christmas...she would have gotten a dinner invitation to the WH and possibly a job as a czar.  But thanks to the color of her skin...she gets nothing!

My parting thought is:  good riddance dumbass.

I'm looking forward to a Happy Trump Year!   Thanks!

Alllllllllllllllll Aboard!

Well folks, the commie-liberal-atheists took GOD out of schools...and we (or our parents) didn't speak up.  So what's to stop the whiners from doing away with Christmas?

Why to you say the the US is a Christian Nation?

Gohmert: Dems Will Drag Out Impeachment — Try To Get ‘Best Socialist’ Nominated For President

During an appearance on Huntsville, AL radio’s WVNN on Thursday, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) offered his best assessment of what House Democrats were trying to accomplish with their impeachment efforts.

Gohmert told WVNN’s “The Jeff Poor Show” impeachment could tie up the Democratic Party’s presidential campaign efforts but predicted Democrats would use the occasion to nominate “the best socialist” they can.

“They would lose in the Senate,” Gohmert said on impeachment. “And besides that, the entire time it was on trial in the Senate, the Democrats who are running for president wouldn’t be allowed to campaign. That’s in the Constitution. They wouldn’t be able to campaign. I just can’t imagine them wanting to do that because if they send it to the Senate, they have now perfectly set up the scenario of 1996, where they will reassure Donald Trump is reelected as president. They don’t want to do that. They’re probably going to drag this thing out as long as they possibly can … through Iowa, through primaries — try to get the best socialist they can to be nominated.”

“Then just end up and say, ‘Now we’re close enough to the general election. We’ve thrown mud at the president through the House,’” he continued. “What they’re really doing — they’re using taxpayer funds to campaign against Trump. That’s all this is — a campaign fund that taxpayers are paying for in order to try to throw mud at the president. I’ll be surprised if they have that vote, but I can’t imagine they want to set up this president for reelection by having a trial in the Senate where they lose.”
