The chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee _ and possibly the next secretary of state _ says mistakes were made at the State Department in the deadly Sept. 11 assault in Libya, but Congress shares some of the blame.

Sen. John Kerry spoke at the start of Thursday's hearings. He says an independent probe pulls no punches about the lack of security at the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi.

U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans died in the attack.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

Lawmakers want to know why security was "grossly inadequate" at the U.S. diplomatic mission in Libya when militants stormed the facility on Sept. 11, killing the ambassador and three other Americans, and why the military failed to respond faster during the nine-hour assault.

Members of the Senate and House foreign affairs committees on Thursday were to question Deputy Secretary of State William Burns, who is in charge of policy, and Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Nides, who is in charge of management, at back-to-back congressional hearings.

Only Obama can say "stand down"-which was the order NOT to help anyone and the order was followed out and no one was helped and 4 American man died.  Obama should be paying the ultimate price for letting these 4 men be put in harms way and murdered.

Bho is not even legal for the white house and no one will step up and bring him up for trial...

What the hell would Kerry the consumate liar know about the truth?  If truth ever come from his lips, it was by chance only. What a useless POS.

'Our' economy depends on war?

Not ours, Joe.  The rot-schild bankster family has been setting up wars and profiting from war loans - to each side of the conflict - set at massive interest rates.  They know that in a democracy, the taxpayer is an unlimited source of remuneration, a bottomless pit of gold. So you will see them in the medical field (NYU Hosp., Memorial Sloan kettering, etc) and in medical insurance.  You will see them in Universities - everywhere a tax dollar may be hiding behind every nook and cranny.  The same with the UK - why do you think George III raised taxes on the colonists - to pay them back and they've been writhing ever since.  You want to know what life is like in a rots dominated culture?  Then read Dickens. Or the Gulag ARchipelago, or any life of a communist serf.

Another joke Secretary of State as we have fellow Americans imprisoned all over that have been left to rot instead of really taking the blame for the failure in Benghazi Gate we get the liberal passing of the buck! Great huh? My comrades deserve better than this and our upmost respect for what transpired in that barbaric part of our world. What about the survivors and what they have to say huh? Oh! I know that's deemed Classified right? This Viet Vet knows better.

It is the president who puts people into the state department.  It is the president who sets our international and military policy.  Congress is just supposed to oversee these decisions.  Obama's slight of hand has fooled half the country, they voted for him.  It is no surprise to me that he has been doing it to congress.  The fault lies squarely with the president.  Congress, which had a majority of Democrats at the beginning of his first term, could have possibly stopped some of his appointments, such as Hillary Clinton for Sec. of State.  She has noting but contempt for the Secret Service, CIA, FBI, and our military.  This information I got from several past Secret Service members.  Hillary is a liberal Democrat (Marxist) so a Democrat Congress agreed with BHO's choices.  Now the House has a Republican majority but as we have witnessed they are not in a position to counter Obama's edicts.  We need to create a veto-proof Congress to save this nation from this Marxist administration.  We all must volunteer to serve on local and state executive committees, vet candidates, walk precincts, work phone banks to elect a veto-proof congress, and then  keep in touch with them to make sure they keep the faith of the campaign.  Yes I know, I sound like a broken record.  But I can think of no other way to motivate conservatives to real action.  Action is what we need, not gripping, not whining, not destroying, and not pontificating what should be done.  Just do it!!

She didn't have much respect for the President, either, if accounts of her screaming at the bottom of Air Force One are credible.  He is supposed to disembark first, btw.  What a sigh of relief spread through the SS First Lady detail when George W was elected President.

Why oh why do we have to have so much human trash in our government?  These have to be the dumbest people on the face of the planet!

Everyone has to remember that 99% of those in Wahington are all X Lawyers and no lawyer works for the clients they only work for their power and pocket book.... Nothing has changed there...

Americans aren't dumb, Ronald, just well intentioned and a bit naive about foreign affairs.  Outside NY you don't get the arch cynicism of Europe or east Europe, for example, nor the aggression of the Middle East.  It would be a pity to see that changed, but greater awareness may be necessary.  (cunning as snakes and innocent as doves...?)  Our enemies are legion, well prepared and funded and work sneakily and stealthily.

Florida Sheriff — “I Will Not Enforce Assault Weapons Ban, Neither Will Most Sheriffs”

Dennis Lemma, who is the Sheriff in Central Florida’s Seminole County, told a group of 2nd Amendment activists recently that he would not enforce an assault weapons ban that could soon become Florida law if the “Ban Assault Weapons Now” amendment passes in the Sunshine State.

According to News965, the ban has the following specifications.

The amendment proposed in the state legislature would ban possession of assault weapons, which are defined as “semiautomatic rifles and shotguns capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition at once, either in fixed or detachable magazine, or any other ammunition feeding device.”

Lemma, an ardent supporter of the 2nd Amendment and a first term sheriff who is running for re-election, said this about whether or not he would enforce such a law.

“It’s not only that I wouldn’t, the majority of sheriffs across the state would not do it,” Lemma said in the video. It’s up to the sheriffs what they are willing to enforce.”
