Judge strikes down Florida law mandating drug tests for welfare

A U.S. judge on Tuesday struck down a Florida law requiring drug screening for welfare recipients, saying that it violated the constitutional protection against unreasonable searches.

Florida Governor Rick Scott, a Republican who campaigned on a promise to expand drug testing, said he would appeal the ruling.

The law took effect in July 2011 and required parents to undergo and pay for urine tests for illegal drugs when they applied for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, a federal-state program that helps poor people with children pay for food, shelter and necessities.

The testing fee of $25 to $45 was to be repaid by the state if the test came back negative, but applicants who tested positive would have been barred from receiving benefits for a year.

Good morning Judy ! I am even appalled that they can use these cards in ATM's and at gas stations ! But God forbid you try to buy toilet paper or dish liquid or toothpaste ! I have thought for a long time that we should go back to the monthly commodity thing ! I remember those days because my sister who is much older raised 4 kids alone !

I have seen people use their SNAP EBT's and they can only be used to purchase food and personal health products. That one cannot withdraw cash using the card, they cannot pay for gas, and one cannot use it a liquor store .. And even at grocery stores the scanning devices will only allow payment for groceries and toiletries.

As far as toiletries , that must be a recent add , but that they can use them for sundry items AT a gas station is a strange thing ! I have never seen one at an ATM but I do not doubt it will happen , if not yet !

There are stores and store clerks willing to ring up beer as food or just about anything that doesn't qualify as a food product... manually entering in a code the card will take.  Crooks will find a way.

This is a very funny story !

If the welfare tested positive, the welfare person probably use the money for drugs or marijuana.

There has been many reports that those receiving Food Stamps are using the money in the Phillipines, Asia, Hawaii, and Las Vegas for buying liquor and gambling.

It's stories like this that makes my blood boil. One Federal Judge can over-rule the decision of many. It happens all the time look to California and Prop 8. Now I do understand that we are a nation of laws and that someone has to define them but should it be done solely on a whim? Sometimes I believe that these Jurist lack the common sense God gave to a rock. "Which does means absolutely none at all." What really get's me is the fact that in their reasoning insults our pocketbook and sense of responsibility. It is actually morally wrong because it condones the activity of a junkie over the ideals of law abiding citizens.

These judges are not stupid... they are activist judges whose ideology is more important than the law and the will of the people expressed by their elected legislature/assembly and Governor.  Activist judges should be impeached for Bad Conduct... as they are acting outside of their authority.

However, the legislature and Governor's often use judges to do what they can not because of the electoral consequences... the will of the people is being thwarted by such courts often with the tacit consent of the legislature/assembly and governor as they refuse to impeach them.

What else would they do while sitting on their a**es all day while we work our butts off.

Another dumbass Commie Liberal judge who strikes down a law that actually makes sense.

Why is it legal for an employer to require a drug test for employment, but not for people who take Taxpayers' money.

I think it should be a Federal & all 50 states laws that Welfare recipients who get money, food stamps, low cost housing & Obama phones take drug tests.

Ephesians 6:11-18

English Standard Version (ESV)

11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,

We take random drug test all the time to keep our jobs but free loaders would be violated if they had to pass a drug test. I just don't get it.  Maybe I should quit my job get high and collect free money.

Yikes !!! Ocasio-Cortez: We Need A ‘Multigendered, Multigeographic’ United States

The United States of America needs to be “multigendered” and “multigeographic,” according to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who endorsed fellow socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) at the “Bernie’s Back Rally” in New York on Saturday.

The freshman lawmaker and “Squad” member officially endorsed Sanders during a rally in Queensbridge Park in Long Island City, New York, on Saturday and called for more diversity in the U.S., arguing that it should not only be “multiracial” and “multigenerational” but “multigeographic” and “multigendered.”

“We need a United States that really, truly, and authentically is operated, owned, and decided by working – and all – people in the United States of America,” Ocasio-Cortez said to applause.

“That is what it – it is multiracial, multigendered, multigenerational, and multigeographic,” she said, failing to elaborate on what that specifically looks like.

“We have to come together, not ignoring our differences but listening to them, prioritizing them, understanding injustice,” she continued.

The socialist lawmaker also implied that rampant racism is still alive and well in the U.S., telling the crowd that it is essential to understand “that we operate in a context where slavery evolved into Jim Crow, evolved into mass incarceration, [and] evolved into the realities we have today.”
