John Conyers to push again for reparations legislation for African Americans

U.S. Rep. John Conyers Jr. said he will re-introduce in the 113th Congress legislation that calls for a seven-member commission to study reparations for African-Americans.

“It is the most important piece of legislation I have ever introduced, and I will re-introduce HR40 in the 113th Congress,” Conyers (D., Mich.) told the 400 attendees at the “Revitalizing The Reparations Movement” conference last week at Chicago State University. The 113th Congress first met Jan. 3, 2013.

He made his comments in the wake of 14 Caribbean nations demanding reparations and apology from Britain and other European countries for the trans-Atlantic slave trade. If the countries fail to negotiate with the Caribbean nations, they will sue them in the World Court, which is located in The Hague, The Netherlands. Thus far, Sweden is the only country that has indicated a willingness to negotiate reparations.

POLL: Do you think that the Democrats-Progressives have worn out the race card?

Introduced in 1989
Conyers said the actions by the Caribbean nations will revitalize the reparations movement in the United States. “I think it is going to be a springboard for reparations,” he said.

Conyers first introduced the legislation, titled “Commission to Study Reparation Proposals for African Americans Act,” in 1989 during the 101th Congress. The bill was referred to the House Judiciary Committee, where Conyers is the ranking member.

The eight-page piece of legislation, which was co-introduced by U.S. Rep. Bobby Scott (D., Va.), said the 4 million Africans and their descendants were enslaved in the United States and colonies that became the United States from 1619 to 1865.

WTF??? This is the year 2014, and another asswipe racist wants reparations?? Go take a flying fu*k at a bouncing donut! You certainly need to be removed from office post haste!

When is this crap going to stop? If anyone in this country deserves reparation it is the Native Americans. But you do not see them looking for a mass payout. Yes pay for reparation with the stipulation that ONLY the original slaves themselves can receive the payment. No descendants will receive a penny. Now see how many will still have their hands out looking for the free stuff.

Listen if I ever owned a slave I would be more than happen to pay for the wrong but, i have never owned anyone. So please stop telling me to pay for all who NEVER have been a slave.  The people who are wanting to be paid have never worked for anyone as a slave. This is stupid!!!!!!

Unless they can raise the dead and give them reparations it is a moot point.  Personally, I think the welfare payments received by so many is reparations enough.

Reparations stipulation:  How about $20,000 per person and deportation to anywhere in Africa of their choosing?   After all, Africa is such a modern day society, and this country is so racist, why would anyone of African ancestry want to stay here?  They can return to their roots and enjoy all of the benefits fthat were stolen from them: i.e. living in mud huts; witchcraft; tribal wars and killings; living under dictatorships; but most of all they would be amongst their own people and thus happy again.

This is bull. Do they want us to pay for something that happened over a hundred years ago. I've never wanted to own anyone and never have, but I'm guilty for something my great-great grandparents might have done? Why not just give them the country so they can enslave us more than the government has.

Only because he probably stands to get in on the front end and skim MILLIONs off for himself? To hell with the little people it is all about the big guys getting their share first.

When it comes to reparations the original Africans should be first in line to pay. Does Mr. Conyers Jr. realize the first slave owner was a black man and there were many black slave owners? Therefore the successful blacks in America ought to be included in paying reparations also!

Besides, being brought to America was the best thing to happen to the blacks. If Mr. Conyers Jr. was in Africa he might be a big cat's meal or in a cage waiting to be sold instead of being a U.S. Rep.

BTW,  there is only one race...human... all the rest are categories!!!

John Conyers was questioning a military gentleman in our great congressional hearing room , regarding increasing "overpopulation of Guam by Marines", and Conyers stated he feared overpopulation would "tip the island over".  Fortunately, the military man (did not get his name) did not laugh outright and as far as I could tell, kept a straight face  I am sorry but anyone this stupid cannot be taken seriously in anything and reparations is just as stupid.  Several people in these reply's have already stated very well why this is so.

That was rep hank Johnson that said that and you are right, the general kept a straight face.  I was ROTFLMA off. He later stated in an interview that he was not serious.  How he got elected is beyond me.

Complete and utter horsesh*t.   No one alive today in the USA owns a slave or owned one during the Civil War.  Though he might want to check obozo's ancestors who were slave traders.   We don't owe any reparations to "African-Americans".   Should I now call myself a European-American?   I'm an American.  If black people are not willing to be "Americans", then they should go back to Africa.  No TV, no IPODs, no welfare checks, no food stamps, no section 8 housing, no gold jewelry, etc.  Nothing but they can call themselves Africans.

Very well said Mr. Cosby!

They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English.

I can't even talk the way these people talk:

Why you ain't,
Where you is,
What he drive,
Where he stay,
Where he work,
Who you be...

And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk.

And then I heard the father talk.

Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth.

In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living.

People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an Education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around.

The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal.

These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids.

$500 sneakers for what?

And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics.

I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit.

Where were you when he was 2?

Where were you when he was 12?

Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol?

And where is the father? Or who is his father?

People putting their clothes on backward:

Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong?

People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something?

Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body?

What part of Africa did this come from??

We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa

I say this all of the time. It would be like white people saying they are European-American. That is totally stupid. I was born here, and so were my parents and grand parents and, very likely my great grandparents. I don't have any connection to Africa, no more than white Americans have to Germany, Scotland, England, Ireland, or the Netherlands . The same applies to 99 percent of all the black Americans as regards to Africa . So stop, already! ! !

With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap .........
And all of them are in jail.

Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem.

We have got to take the neighborhood back.

People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' -- or men or whatever you call them now.

We have millionaire football players who cannot read.

We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs. We, as black folks have to do a better job.

Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us.

We have to start holding each other to a higher standard..

We cannot blame the white people any longer.'

Yikes !!! Ocasio-Cortez: We Need A ‘Multigendered, Multigeographic’ United States

The United States of America needs to be “multigendered” and “multigeographic,” according to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who endorsed fellow socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) at the “Bernie’s Back Rally” in New York on Saturday.

The freshman lawmaker and “Squad” member officially endorsed Sanders during a rally in Queensbridge Park in Long Island City, New York, on Saturday and called for more diversity in the U.S., arguing that it should not only be “multiracial” and “multigenerational” but “multigeographic” and “multigendered.”

“We need a United States that really, truly, and authentically is operated, owned, and decided by working – and all – people in the United States of America,” Ocasio-Cortez said to applause.

“That is what it – it is multiracial, multigendered, multigenerational, and multigeographic,” she said, failing to elaborate on what that specifically looks like.

“We have to come together, not ignoring our differences but listening to them, prioritizing them, understanding injustice,” she continued.

The socialist lawmaker also implied that rampant racism is still alive and well in the U.S., telling the crowd that it is essential to understand “that we operate in a context where slavery evolved into Jim Crow, evolved into mass incarceration, [and] evolved into the realities we have today.”
