Former House Speaker John A. Boehner said Thursday that outright repeal of Obamacare is “not going to happen.”
The Ohio Republican, who left Congress in late 2015 amid friction with hardline conservatives, told an Orlando health conference that he started to laugh when Republicans promised swift moves to repeal and replace the massive law, according to a Politico report.
The notion that a replacement could breeze through Congress, he said, was “happy talk.”
“Republicans never ever agree on health care,” he was reported as saying.
Mr. Boehner’s blunt assessment comes as GOP lawmakers struggle to explain the path forward to angry liberal activists and constituents back home.
Republican leaders insist they are on track to repeal and replace as much of the Affordable Care Act as they can this spring under a fast-track budget procedure that allows them to bypass a Democratic filibuster.
The Break in at the Democrat HQ in the Water Gate Hotel. was a low level operation which Nixon had no knowledge of.... at the time it occurred.
The long and short of it is... the GOP in the US Senate could have stopped any attempt to Impeach Nixon. The Dem's did not have a 2/3rds majority in the Senate not even close: The Democrats held 56 seats, Republicans 42 seats, and 2 seats were held by Independents during Nixon's last term... It required 67 US Senators to vote for conviction in an Impeachment case.
10 GOP Senators would have had to join with the Democrats to convict Nixon of the Impeachment charges. Nixon would not have resigned if he had the full support of the GOP... Trump had better watch his back...
They are obviously NOT backing Trump up now. The ones who stood by the dems to call Sessions to recuse himself, made no cry out over Lynch, Hellary, Clinton crimes. Quiet they were. Now they speak up.
