David Gregory and Piers Morgan have both met the Alinskyite Right, and progressives in positions of power should take note. Both men are the targets of digital petition drives aimed at holding them to their own standards, and ridiculing them, invoking Rules 4 and 5 from Rules for Radicals:

4. "Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules." If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules.

5. "Ridicule is man's most potent weapon." There is no defense. It's irrational. It's infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.

This may be one of the first signs of the direction the conservative movement will take in President Obama's second term, and I take heart from the development.  Conservatives have read and assimilated the lessons in Rules, and with left thoroughly in control of the institutions of media, education and culture, a lot of petards are going to get a lot of hoisting in the next four years. Social media distribution makes it possible for funny or dramatic events to flow around the usual media cofferdams.

Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" for dummies:

Couldn't find the book at the library, but there's plenty about it online. It's Saul D. Alinsky's book "Rules for Radicals," the radicals' handbook for taking over the government. It worked, and it would be no small irony if those sames rules were used against them.  In any case it certainly wouldn't hurt anyone to bone up on the tactics. Here's a quick and dirty list of Saul Alinsky's rules for radicals found on the net here, here, and here (pdf), as follows:

RULE 1: "Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have." Power is derived from 2 main sources - money and people. "Have-Nots" must build power from flesh and blood. (These are two things of which there is a plentiful supply. Government and corporations always have a difficult time appealing to people, and usually do so almost exclusively with economic arguments.)

RULE 2: "Never go outside the expertise of your people." It results in confusion, fear and retreat. Feeling secure adds to the backbone of anyone. (Organizations under attack wonder why radicals don't address the "real" issues. This is why. They avoid things with which they have no knowledge.)

RULE 3: "Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy." Look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty. (This happens all the time. Watch how many organizations under attack are blind-sided by seemingly irrelevant arguments that they are then forced to address.)

RULE 4: "Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules." If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules. (This is a serious rule. The besieged entity's very credibility and reputation is at stake, because if activists catch it lying or not living up to its commitments, they can continue to chip away at the damage.)

RULE 5: "Ridicule is man's most potent weapon." There is no defense. It's irrational. It's infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions. (Pretty crude, rude and mean, huh? They want to create anger and fear.)

RULE 6: "A good tactic is one your people enjoy." They'll keep doing it without urging and come back to do more. They're doing their thing, and will even suggest better ones. (Radical activists, in this sense, are no different that any other human being. We all avoid "un-fun" activities, and but we revel at and enjoy the ones that work and bring results.)

We definitely need to learn from their tactics. We are very powerful when we are working together toward common goals.

So what is being said here that this is Oblamea's favorite, all time favorite read! Next to Mein Kampf?

I can put it in more simple terms. When you grow up in the tough streets you either learn how to fight or you will get your butt kicked evrey day.  We are now learning how to fight back and this is how we will beat back Socialism/Liberalism/Democrats /Communism. Remember in the olden days when John L Sullivan the heavy weight bare knuckle fighter would put up his fists and say " The Marquist Of Queensbury rules "  which meant fight fair , and then he would use every dirty tactic he could to knock out his opponent . Well that's how Liberals fight my friends and it's time for us to get down and dirty with them if we want to be heavy weight champion .

Oh no Dan, they're too good for that, too smart, too sophisticated, too "love thy neighbor", too good sportsmanship.... in other words, they are freaking idiots or they are on the same side just playing a different position.  Which I think the latter is the reality.

I was wondering when the Tea Party and conservatives in general would come to realize the destructive effects Saul Alinsky has had on our culture.  It's been a long time coming. He was Hillary Clinton's mentor and the subject of her university thesis.  He was also President Obama's 'mentor' when he was a community organizer.  It's about time we adopted some of Saul's techniques  that have been so effective for the left and modified them to fit our  more wholesome goals.  Right on!  It's something we can all do at every level.

Thanks Dee: Yes Jim we need to know our enemy, Im not understanding why we dont already, weve had yrs to learn what has happened, we could have crushed them along time ago, but we slept & buried our heads in the sand. MI yes also add koran etc, My Struggle Mein Kampf, now we as Christian, Conservative, Constitutionalists have a war on our hands. Dan Yes this will take a little eye for eye, Jesus in the Temple is our example, however We The People have many more weapons, no matter how long this takes we will win, We have the heart & soul of the loyal, honest American people, truth is on our side, God the Father, God the Son & God the Holy Ghost is on our side, We have the whole armour of God on our side Ephesians 6, We fight for our Country, Constitution, families our kids & grandkids future freedoms & liberties etc etc. We the People dont see it yet but weve won already, God made sure of that. God Bless The Tea Party & God Bless America

Never underestimate your enemy. Dan I don't know where you grew up, but it is evident it was a very similar atmosphere to my surroundings. You either fought or you got your A** kicked, I wasn't much for getting it kicked.

Great idea... but where is the leadership, and resources (money), to organize an effective campaign to reform government.  People are our strength... but a disorganized mob or a movement of one... is counter productive to our goals. The problem with this movement is that it doesn't have recognized, formal National leadership. Leaders capable of rallying millions of people in support of organized events... Events that  catch the eye of the people and those in power; events that bring about visible change.  We don't need more weekend rallies... events that end with dubious results.  The people want events that they see as successful... they will soon tire of those that do nothing.

Until we have effective leadership and resourcing... this movement will offer little more than false hope and a place to vent ones frustration and anger. Vented anger and frustration may be cathartic but it is counter productive to our movement... it offers a false sense of relief and accomplishment.  We need directed anger and frustration... anger focused and harnessed by effective leadership too accomplish our mission... too return our government to its constitutional roots.

Our present movement is not being used effectively... it lacks national leadership and resourcing. Until we have both effective leadership and resourcing we will continue to operate at the margins of political power. We must stop with the BS about diversity and independence being our strengths... they are not.  We must unite under ONE BANNER with common leadership and goals.  Our limited resources need to be focused on those means which can and will bring about real reform.

We must stop with the rhetoric that supports the fracturing of our movement... E Pluribus Unum... our national motto means "out of many one".  We must become one force... one mind, one energized and efficiently lead organization if we are to prevail. We need unity of though, effort and command, if we are to prevail in restoring our government to its Constitutional roots.

Here's the problem, Col. Nelson, that needs to be addressed:  the Tea Party is esentially a grassroots organization, unstructured at the national level.  Who is it that is on the horizon that can grab hold of the reins, provide momentum and leadership while still keeping ordinary citizens in the loop?  Whenever the Tea Party produces a leader -for example, Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann - they get destroyed and even conservatives stand by and let it happen. We didn't protect Sarah or Michele when they  needed protection, so what makes anyone think we will protect some leader who wants to direct the movement who becomes a target waiting to be Alinsky-ized?  Will he still represent us - or will he succumb to the blandishments of the RINOs and fear of radical leftists who play only hardball?  What is it that we can do to overcome the power and destructive force of the Union bosses (i.e. thugs) who use fear and intimidation and represent themselves and are really adjuncts to the Democrat Party apparatus?  That's one huge hurdle to attack.  So, the answer seems to lie in finding out how to go around the mainstream (maim- stream!) media, and the union bosses, and get the message out.

Rush Limbaugh refers to the "low information voters," nice people who see little, understand less, and are too lazy to learn what's really going on. Or just don't care to get informed. The Democrats have been indoctrinating their own since childhood; and suddenly we want to see results.  Inch by inch everything's a cinch, I suppose, but we need to start locally.  How did the Gospel get out?  There was no television.  At least we have the internet now.

Anyhow, we need all the creative thinking we can muster from all quarters.  My first thought would be to get a Tea Party group to create a data base whereby we can tap into all the names and professional addresses of members of the mainstream media, and let them hear, individually, what's on our minds.  They've had a free ride for too long.  Any other thoughts?

Alex...

Good points... to begin with we need a national sponsor... a potential leader or leaders with the RESOURCES to fund and organize a National convention. Any leader or potential leader must have the intestinal fortitude too take the demonization of the left.  Our founding fathers were men of such character... they understood that to oppose the King was treason and lead directly to the gallows and the forfeiture of their lives, property and heritage... that their entire family would suffer great loss.

Unless we have men of strong moral character willing to pledge their lives, liberty (risk of jail or worse) and fortunes (wealth) to our cause... we will never be a formidable organization.  Samuel Adams said it best:

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace.  We ask not your counsels or your arms.  Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you.  May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

We need men and women... leadership willing to give it all.  So far there have been no takers. Men like Rush Limbaugh and Shaun Hannity only go so far... they are not willing to pledge it all.  Who then is... the average American Patriot I believe would if they had leadership capable of articulating their cause, willing too put together the resources needed to demonstrate that their is some chance of success.

The people inherently know the sound of real leadership... they instinctively trust those who demonstrate their ability to articulate and MANIFEST results.  We must find men and women who can amalgamize the divergent and diverse patriot groups under a single banner... a confederacy of patriot groups... able to consolidate their resources to accomplish common goals.

We need a GEORGE WASHINGTON or SAMUEL ADAMS... men who will pledge their lives, liberty and personal wealth to the restoration of our Constitutional Republic.  Until they materialize our movement will continue to operate at the extreme margins of political power.

P/S quite frankly we don't have the time too move inch by inch... we have arrived late and the battle field is dressed and ready... while we are naked and disorganized.

Thanks Col, all true, my eyes are wide open, I see no one that you speak of, Im hurting inside sir. About 3 months ago I recd a message from a retired Gen, 10,000 pledged to march with him to DC, no one showed up, I tried to put myself in his place, I shouldnt have done that, nothing but pain inside. What has happened sir, no will in people, cowards, sleeping, hiding, fence sitters, excuse makers, opinions are like what-everyone has one etc etc, what happened to the guts & courage of We The People-I see finger pointing they should do it rather than Im going to do it, finger pointing theyre to blame rather than looking in the mirror etc etc. Im a front line type of person, Im in for the fight, I volunteer, what say you Col, Im at your command, no excuses from me, no passing the buck from me, God gave me a backbone Im in for the fight. God bless Col, God Bless & long live our Republic
