GOP Senators Cornyn, Alexander Oppose Vote on Sanctuary Cities

Forget about sanctuary cities, the U.S. Senate is becoming a sanctuary for illegal aliens.

It’s not only President Obama who refuses to recognize the murder of Kate Steinle at the hands of illegal aliens – both in public and by privately consoling the family members.  According to conservative aides, Republican leaders are opposing a vote on an amendment that would put an end to liberal cities thwarting federal immigration laws, “sanctuary cities.”

"Alexander and Cornyn really pressured conservatives to back off from getting a vote on sanctuary cities amendments,” an aide told Conservative Review. “Alexander didn't want his education bill derailed but John Cornyn, despite his public comments otherwise, is terrified about the prospect of voting on eliminating sanctuary cities and offending his golden goose: Houston."

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) has introduced an amendment (no. 2146) to the pending reauthorization of No Child Left Behind, (S.1177) that would cut off all federal law enforcement grants to sanctuary cities and reallocate those funds to states and localities that comply with federal law.  Sens. Sessions (R-AL) and Cruz (R-TX) have co-sponsored the amendment and Sen. Vitter (R-LA) has a similar proposal he recently introduced.

Allowing a vote on this urgent national security issue is the least GOP leaders can do after forcing conservatives to debate a liberal education bill for two weeks.  Yet, according to Senate sources, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX) and Lamar Alexander (R-TN), the floor manager of the education bill, are pulling out all the stops in order to oppose a vote on sanctuary cities.  What’s more appalling, GOP leaders are allowing a vote on leftist Sen. Al Franken’s (D-MN) non-germane (not relevant to the bill at hand) amendment to grant special rights to homosexual and transgender students and threaten the religious liberty of private citizens.  Traditionally when one party receives a non-germane amendment the other receives a vote on a non-germane amendment of their choosing as well.

This is part of a growing trend by GOP leaders to oppose timely and politically-winning conservative amendments, while conducting votes on far-left social engineering priorities from Democrats and continuing Harry Reid’s legacy.  In April, leadership blocked an amendment from Sen. Sessions which would have closed the illegal alien family trafficking loophole in the human trafficking bill.  They also blocked an amendment from Sen. Vitter to close the birthright citizenship/birth tourism loophole.

Disgusting.

Why?  Because they wanted the education bill separate?  What's wrong with that?

That's not what they want and you know it.  If you and all like you continue to be deluded by these traitors in Congress, this country will never have a chance of survival and neither will you along with the rest of the American Citizens.

"All like me"?  All stauch conservatives that like to ask questions for differing opinions like me?  Those who won't just jump to a conclusion simply because some web site tells me to?  THOSE people like me?  Ok.

Yea,  I asked the question so that I could be demeaned and talked down to.  Thanks.

Well, for one thing, the Education Bill will be the only bill that has stood on its own. It seems they have no problem attaching amendments that they support to any bill that goes up for vote.
Their lack of support for a bill against sanctuary cities shows they value illegal aliens over American.

Thank you for your explanation.  Cornyn is my Senator (ugh) and I tried to get him voted out.  Can't stand him!

Some are saying that this will lead to stand alone bills for everything, and when questioned on one of the shows last evening, he said he was 'for' getting rid of sactuary cities but felt like the education bill was so important that it needed to be a stand alone bill instead of lumped with the sanctuary city bill.  I guess time will tell, but I never have trusted him. Don't trust him now.

Dirt bag RINOs!

more traitors that need a noose and a quick drop!!!!!

Lamar Alexander (R-TN) is a disgrace to my home state of Tennessee. None of these SOB's care about protecting the American people. They just care about staying in power and lining there pockets!

We need to take them out of power - by the power of the VOTE.  Alexander is a jack...  He is less than a RINO.  How did TN get stuck with him?  Sleeping voters.

We have the same problems here in Missouri with Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO).  They do not represent the American People.  They represent themselves and the Obama agenda.

Yes, they both are traitors. I just called both of them about their stand on the Iran nuke deal and all I hear is "we are evaluating it".  I reminded them (their minion on the phone) that they will die along with the rest of us..........along with a few other things I said.  I ended by asking them how they liked their job.

ALERT ALERT

Joe Biden Vows: Give Taxpayer-Funded Obamacare To All Illegal Aliens In U.S.

Former Vice President and 2020 Democrat presidential primary candidate Joe Biden is vowing to give Obamacare, funded by American taxpayers, to all 11 to 22 million illegal aliens living in the United States.

During an interview with Telemundo’s Jose Diaz-Balart, Biden forgot that Obamacare technically bans illegal aliens from enrolling in healthcare plans — although illegal aliens are still able to obtain subsidized and free healthcare at Americans’ expense — and promised that under his plan, all 11 to 22 million illegal aliens would be able to get Obamacare.

The exchange went as follows:

DIAZ-BALART: When I … NBC moderated that first debate with you, I didn’t … I don’t recall a clear answer, under your plan should … would the 11, 12 million undocumented immigrants that live in the United States, that have been here many for generations, would they have access …

BIDEN: Yes.

DIAZ-BALART: — to health insurance.

BIDEN: Yes, they … if they can buy into the system like everybody else.

DIAZ-BALART: Because you know, in [Obamacare] they can’t.

BIDEN: Yeah. Yeah, I know. Well they can, that’s my point. They continue to be able to do that.

DIAN-BALART: They cannot under the ObamaCare.

BIDEN: Well and that’s my point, they will though. They will be able to buy into … [illegal aliens] would be able to buy in, just like anyone else could.

Biden joins Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg — among other 2020 Democrats — in committing to forcing American taxpayers to pay for healthcare for illegal aliens who arrive in the U.S.

Already, due to loopholes, American taxpayers are spending nearly $20 billion every year to provide illegal aliens with subsidized healthcare, emergency room visits, and other health services.

Under the 2020 Democrats’ plan to provide taxpayer-funded healthcare to all illegal aliens living in the U.S., Americans would be billed potentially $660 billion every decade just to cover the costs. Other research has found that the plan would cost Americans at least $23 billion every year.

As Breitbart News has reported, experts have said that giving taxpayer-funded healthcare to effectively all foreign nationals who can make it to America’s borders would drive “strong incentives for people with serious health problems to enter the country or remain longer than their visas allow in order to get government-funded care.”

Despite 2020 Democrats’ continued push for taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens, American voters are overwhelmingly opposed to the plan. The latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News survey revealed that the healthcare-for-illegal-aliens plan is the least popular policy position, with opposition from 62 percent of U.S. voters.

Similarly, a CNN poll from July discovered that 63 percent of likely swing voters oppose providing healthcare to illegal aliens, along with nearly 6-in-10 of all likely U.S. voters and 61 percent of moderates. A Rasmussen Reports survey also found that likely voters, by a majority of 55 percent, oppose giving healthcare to even the most low-income illegal aliens.
