God Doesn't Call The Qualified, He Qualifies The Called

God Equips His People

We make a mistake in church life if we judge the qualities of the Christian based on the world’s standards.  A person’s eloquence, coolness or success in the business world means nothing to God on their own. Without a rock solid relationship with Jesus, even the most well-intentioned expert can do nothing for God.  The most successful CEO will be an utter failure running a church without a heart for Jesus.  Being with God is the sole defining quality of great workers for the Lord.  If a man is with God, He will give that man the ability to do His will.  God doesn’t call the qualified for His work.  They are a dime a dozen.  God calls the man who is devoted to God and equips him for the tasks ahead.  Looking first for anything other than Godliness is setting up the church for disaster.

Say there is an opening on the elder board of a church.  The standard operating procedure in response is to form a search committee.  The committee looks at the church members to judge who in the congregation would be best suited for the role.  If the job requires organization, they look to a winning coach or a leader in the professional world.  If it requires handling money, they look at the successful businessman or banker.  The reasoning is that they are used to handling people, leading people and raising money so they can transfer their skills into the church version.  It makes sense according to man’s logic but is a terrible error in God’s eyes.  God never judges a man by the world’s standards.  God’s leaders are very different than man’s.  The man who has all the skills but doesn’t have God is completely unqualified.

The person who is completely overwhelmed by the idea of the position but is on fire for the Lord is God’s first choice.

The Apostle Paul’s Job Interview

Consider Saul of Tarsus’ qualifications when he was chosen by God.  Paul is the greatest evangelist in human history.  He writes much of the New Testament.  He is the example of faith millions have tried to emulate throughout history.  He is a great leader and awesome Christian.  Yet, when he was chosen to lead and serve, Paul was totally unqualified.

Can you imagine the search committee for the church at Antioch charged with picking the next evangelist for their church?  We know what Paul the Apostle did when he was chosen by God to be His anointed vessel of the Gospel.  But we forget what how horribly unqualified he was when he went by his Hebrew name of Saul.  Saul interview before the official Antioch evangelist search committee would go something like this:

Interviewer Ananias:  So you want to be hired by our church, what were you doing in your last position?

Interviewee Saul:  Well Sir, I spent the last few years, up until a couple of days ago actually, doing my best to destroy other churches.  I even tried to go to Damascus and destroy the new church you have there.  I was really good at it too!  They compared me with a wild animal tearing at its prey.

Interviewer Ananias:  Ok, so I will write down that you are a real self-starter.  How did you find out about our advertisement for a position?

Interviewee Saul:  Well, it’s an interesting story.  You see, I was holding the clothes of those who were stoning your friend Stephen to death, stoning being hard work and all and I heard him talking.  Then I was helping put other church members in jail, forcing them to betray Christians and then having them killed.  They were all talking about how great the pastor of your church is, how you have great benefits and how I should apply here.  Then after I  purposefully ignored that for a while, goads stink BTW, while I was on the way to Damascus to get more workers I mentioned killed or jailed, I met the boss.  After He knocked me down and blinded me, He said I had the job!

Interviewer Ananias:  What position are you applying for?

Interviewee Paul:  I want to be a Chosen Vessel of God and an Apostle.  I would also like to write the majority of Jesus’ New Testament and preach grace to the world.

Interviewer Ananias:  Great, you are hired!

I have interviewed a lot of people in my career, but never someone as ill-suited for the position as Saul of Tarsus.  If the calling of Apostle was  based on worldly wisdom, he would have been thrown out of the interview and perhaps into jail.  His resume boils down to the fact that he was totally unfit for the job.  God chose him. He had been the biggest enemy of the church and thought he was righteous when he was killing Christians.

Before meeting Jesus, Paul was perhaps the last person in the world to be chosen an Apostle.  It would be like asking Osama Bin Laden to fill in as Prime Minister of Israel for a while.  Based on logic and history, it is just not going to end well.  But God picked Paul and made him His chosen vessel to use for the remainder of his lifetime.

God’s Power Made Perfect in Weakness Not Strength

Paul was extraordinarily weak in the very areas that God needed workers.  This is exactly how God wants it.  It is often when a man is totally weak and completely without ability that God does his best work.  When we are reliant on Him, God is happy to show His power in abundance.  It is only when we think we are strong that God’s stage becomes cluttered.  There is only one star of the show in God’s theater and it is not us.  David is also a great example of the decision makin of God.  David was not qualified to fight Goliath.  God chose David because he trusted God not anyone else and he expected David to fight his way.  God Chose You for a Purpose!

God’s choice of Paul was perfect and awesome.  Paul converted thousands and taught holiness to the thousands more in the early church.  Don’t miss that this was not because Paul was a diamond in the rough.  This was not Paul discovering his untapped potential.  It was God’s power working through a desperately unqualified but willing servant….not Paul and his qualifications.  It was God’s plan, God’s mission and God’s power that carried it out, not Paul.  For another excellent example read here about the shoe saleman with the 3rd Grade education who preached to millions  DL Moody and Focus.

God Chooses the Weak but Willing and Makes us Strong

Do you feel called by God to do something in God’s Kingdom but feel unqualified?  Do you feel worthless in your church, like you can’t do anything and have nothing to add?

If the answer is yes, then answer this:

Have you been out trying to destroy your church and killing Christians and forcing them to renounce Jesus’ name?

No, then you are already a better candidate for Christian service than Saul of Tarsus.  You are hired!

God Equips the Called – Do We Trust Him?

God chose you for a purpose just like He chose Paul and David.  His choice, His

plan, His purpose.  It may not seem to make sense at the time, but God does not judge like we do.  He passes over each of David’s 7 impressive brothers in favor of the young shepherd when choosing Israel’s new King.  Why was David Chosen to Be King?  He does not look at the outward appearance, but at the heart and He is never wrong.  He chose you, warts  and all.  Now, do you trust God in His choice to provide His power to get His results, despite doing it through a lump of clay?  You are enough “because God chose you”.  God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

It is the One who called that is important not the one who is called.  Understanding and remembering this is the key to our every step in faith.

God doesn't use a committee to call His ministry ... He uses the Holy Spirit to anoint His called, and it is the anointing which breaks the yoke, revealing God's purpose and power in His ministers... without the calling of God, the evidence of the Holy Spirit will be absent from a ministry.  God Calls and Prepares His ministers, "... God does not repent of His free gifts nor of His call; For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable." (Romans 11:29)

Remember it is Jesus Christ who is the author and finisher of our faith... so, that no man may boast of his own power and calling in God... it is God who is the source, the author and finisher, of the His ministry gifts operating in us...  He only requires that His ministers be obedient and available for His use... (Hebrews 12:2)

I like this blog Ronald, one thing for sure God is not Jewish....:)

Tif... We are in agreement on this matter...

That's the point Ronald.

Must everything be explained to you?

Well, in time you just get use to Ronald, like PMS...:)

Comparing constructive criticism with PMS must be a woman thing... men certainly can't relate to it.

Try it some time, don't worry it is a bitc*h...:)

Give me a call next time you have PMS and I'll pop over and fix the problem for you... I have just the right remedy... old hickory and lemon juice... smarts a lot but you will forget all about PMS...

This is way to funny, a little PMS cure by the doc. And I give this blog a like also.

My comment was meant to agree with your fine post ... However, I suppose everything must be explained to you... for you to comprehend.

Joe Biden Vows: Give Taxpayer-Funded Obamacare To All Illegal Aliens In U.S.

Former Vice President and 2020 Democrat presidential primary candidate Joe Biden is vowing to give Obamacare, funded by American taxpayers, to all 11 to 22 million illegal aliens living in the United States.

During an interview with Telemundo’s Jose Diaz-Balart, Biden forgot that Obamacare technically bans illegal aliens from enrolling in healthcare plans — although illegal aliens are still able to obtain subsidized and free healthcare at Americans’ expense — and promised that under his plan, all 11 to 22 million illegal aliens would be able to get Obamacare.

The exchange went as follows:

DIAZ-BALART: When I … NBC moderated that first debate with you, I didn’t … I don’t recall a clear answer, under your plan should … would the 11, 12 million undocumented immigrants that live in the United States, that have been here many for generations, would they have access …

DIAZ-BALART: — to health insurance.

BIDEN: Yes, they … if they can buy into the system like everybody else.

DIAZ-BALART: Because you know, in [Obamacare] they can’t.

BIDEN: Yeah. Yeah, I know. Well they can, that’s my point. They continue to be able to do that.

DIAN-BALART: They cannot under the ObamaCare.

BIDEN: Well and that’s my point, they will though. They will be able to buy into … [illegal aliens] would be able to buy in, just like anyone else could.

Biden joins Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg — among other 2020 Democrats — in committing to forcing American taxpayers to pay for healthcare for illegal aliens who arrive in the U.S.

Already, due to loopholes, American taxpayers are spending nearly $20 billion every year to provide illegal aliens with subsidized healthcare, emergency room visits, and other health services.

Under the 2020 Democrats’ plan to provide taxpayer-funded healthcare to all illegal aliens living in the U.S., Americans would be billed potentially $660 billion every decade just to cover the costs. Other research has found that the plan would cost Americans at least $23 billion every year.

As Breitbart News has reported, experts have said that giving taxpayer-funded healthcare to effectively all foreign nationals who can make it to America’s borders would drive “strong incentives for people with serious health problems to enter the country or remain longer than their visas allow in order to get government-funded care.”

Despite 2020 Democrats’ continued push for taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens, American voters are overwhelmingly opposed to the plan. The latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News survey revealed that the healthcare-for-illegal-aliens plan is the least popular policy position, with opposition from 62 percent of U.S. voters.

Similarly, a CNN poll from July discovered that 63 percent of likely swing voters oppose providing healthcare to illegal aliens, along with nearly 6-in-10 of all likely U.S. voters and 61 percent of moderates. A Rasmussen Reports survey also found that likely voters, by a majority of 55 percent, oppose giving healthcare to even the most low-income illegal aliens.
