What a stark difference!
Thanksgiving ProclamationIssued by President George Washington, at the request of Congress, on October 3, 1789
By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.
Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and—Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”
Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favor, able interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.
And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other trangressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally, to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.
Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

Presidential Proclamation -- Thanksgiving Day, 2016
THANKSGIVING DAY, 2016

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Nearly 400 years ago, a small band of Pilgrims fled persecution and violence and came to this land as refugees in search of opportunity and the freedom to practice their faith. Though the journey was rough and their first winter harsh, the friendly embrace of an indigenous people, the Wampanoag -- who offered gracious lessons in agriculture and crop production -- led to their successful first harvest. The Pilgrims were grateful they could rely on the generosity of the Wampanoag people, without whom they would not have survived their first year in the new land, and together they celebrated this bounty with a festival that lasted for days and prompted the tradition of an annual day of giving thanks.
This history teaches us that the American instinct has never been to seek isolation in opposite corners; it is to find strength in our common creed and forge unity from our great diversity. On that very first thanksgiving celebration, these same ideals brought together people of different backgrounds and beliefs, and every year since, with enduring confidence in the power of faith, love, gratitude, and optimism, this force of unity has sustained us as a people. It has guided us through times of great challenge and change and allowed us to see ourselves in those who come to our shores in search of a safer, better future for themselves and their families.
On this holiday, we count our blessings and renew our commitment to giving back. We give thanks for our troops and our veterans -- and their families -- who give of themselves to protect the values we cherish; for the first responders, teachers, and engaged Americans who serve their communities; and for the chance to live in a country founded on the belief that all of us are created equal. But on this day of gratitude, we are also reminded that securing these freedoms and opportunities for all our people is an unfinished task. We must reflect on all we have been afforded while continuing the work of ensuring no one is left out or left behind because of who they are or where they come from.
For generations, our Nation's progress has been carried forward by those who act on the obligations we have to one another. Each year on Thanksgiving, the selflessness and decency of the American people surface in food banks and shelters across our country, in time spent caring for the sick and the stranger, and in efforts to empathize with those with whom we disagree and to recognize that every individual is worthy of compassion and care. As we gather in the company of our friends, families, and communities -- just as the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag did centuries ago -- let us strive to lift up others, promote tolerance and inclusiveness, and give thanks for the joy and love that surround all of us.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim November 24, 2016, as a National Day of Thanksgiving. I encourage the people of the United States to join together -- whether in our homes, places of worship, community centers, or any place of fellowship for friends and neighbors -- and give thanks for all we have received in the past year, express appreciation to those whose lives enrich our own, and share our bounty with others.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this
twenty-third day of November, in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-first.
Obama's name doesn't belong doesn't belong anywhere by Washington's name.
He is really insane!
reading through the comments I see a couple themes.. Indians and education. Which ironically ties into something I caught on weekday afternoon tv this week. A series of animated/illustrated 5 minute 'educational' episodes about native Indian culture before white people arrived (cartoons on weekday afternoon tv for the kids) called injunuity - each one covering a different topic. The topics were stuff like capitalism sucks and is unnatural, homosexuals and people with confused gender identity are superior beings (TWO SPIRIT), etc... The one that caught my attention getting me to watch was about how everything our founders knew about separation of powers governing was learned from the native Indians (the GREAT LAW);
really? ...is it any wonder the youngers don't have a clue? educational/indoctrinating tv implementing the progressive agenda in action... on pbs on a weekday afternoon. <--- "it's for the kids"
This is another brainwashing piece by the Corporation for Propaganda Broadcasting. A lot of versions to this fake story. If you really want to know the US history just have the kids read the Mayflower Compact. IT was written on the Mayflower ship on the way here. The writers had never met Indians, so this whole piece is just lies and BS. obama and Communist Core need to be removed for the lies they are teaching our children. I looked at my Grandson's social studies book, and they had a false narrative in it that says Columbus was lost at sea, and a muslim sailor on board guided him to America. This false narrative fails to tell the student that in 1492 Spain and most of Europe were in the middle of the Inquisition, and killing every muslim and expelling every Jew they could find. I doubt that Columbus would have signed a muslim up for sea duty, and if he had that muslim would be shark bate the moment they left port. This Thanksgiving we can be very Thankful that President Trump has already begun transforming our nation and orienting our nation toward the TRUE meaning and HISTORY of this great Republic.
You don't realize it but you go through an indoctrination when you watch TV . How many commercials on TV today have at least one black person if not the entire cast of actors . Makes one think that white people are in the minority when the opposite is true . Again you are being indoctrinated slowly so you wont notice . Same goes for the shows on TV we have shows were gays openly being the norm . How many show on TV were single parent family is the norm . You wonder were the family unit has gone ? You've been indoctrinated ! The saying those who control the media control actions of the viewer . Nothing bring that into focus more then the presidential election ! Would Hillary Rotten Clinton have gotten the votes she did if it weren't for the lame stream liberal media ? Hillary and Billy Boy Clinton could do no wrong in the liberal medias eyes . What George Soros and his minions did not count on is the social media getting the facts out about hillary Rotten Clinton .
Thank you Charles, for pointing out the intentions of the Media ,to change our Culture, the subtlies of the cunning, and shrewd advertising, commercials where so many Blacks appear, as if, they made up the main Consumer Group. They do not purchase that much. The television programs produced to encourage immorality, vulgarity, as if these were acceptable behavior. Highlighted to look like the "Normal" way to live. The Media was sighted by Edward R. Murrow , as a wonderful thing, when television first came about, or the possibility of a "Horrible Weapon" when used the wrong way. Abortion, Fatherless Homes, Sexual promiscuity, and a Gay Lifestyle are not acceptable to America, and yet the Media ,has glorified a Culture so base, it makes you sick. No longer a fan of television, and on campaign to get people to "Turn the Damn Thing Off". It is programmed propaganda, and you, the audience have control. It is called a "Remote". Reject it, repeatedly, and don't let your Children view it. Don't go for the Indoctrination.
