A federal judge on Wednesday refused to grant a preliminary injunction sought by a coalition of voting rights groups and the U.S. Justice Department against the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) in litigation over voter-citizenship checks.
At issue was a requirement in Kansas, Alabama, and Georgia that individuals registering to vote must provide proof of citizenship. The League of Women Voters, the NAACP, and the Obama Justice Department had sued Brian Newby, the U.S. elections official who changed the proof-of-citizenship requirements on the federal registration form at the request of the three states.
U.S. District Judge Richard Leon's ruling allows Kansas, Alabama and Georgia to demand that their residents submit proof of citizenship before signing up to vote even if they’re using the federal government’s registration forms.
The voting rights groups and the Obama administration had tried to halt the practice, arguing that federal law doesn’t require an extensive citizenship check when people register to vote, and saying the three states were imposing an extra burden on voters.
The only political thing I haven't quit (I left the GOP entirely) is my position as a voting clerk at the largest precinct polling station in my town -- being part of the voting system is the greatest honor I have...here in Alabama we take the integrity of our elections very seriously and because of the precautions we take there are very few false votes cast across the state.
The one place where there are sometimes election integrity issues is Birmingham-Jefferson County -- the last bastion for Democrats in Alabama ... if there is cheating it is there -- but even then, voting fraud is rare here -- because we check every registration to achieve the right balance of tough voting rules and the opportunity for every legal voter to cast a ballot and have it counted for his or her candidate.
Just a 'ploy' by The League of Women Voters, the NAACP, and the Obama Justice Department to 'suck the life' out of 'individuals registering to vote must provide proof of citizenship' RIGHTS of Individual States Rights Granted Under The United States of American's Constitution

Paul ... we use paper ballots & optical character readers which count only and have no other kind of programming so flipping votes is not possible ... I'm the voting clerk at our precinct ... I actually supervise the voting itself, I start (open up the voting machine and close it out when the polls close. We have separate Dem & Rep ballots and during the course of the day I verify that the number of D & R ballots (not the checked blocks) cast matches those signed out by voters.
At the end of the voting day I collect from the drop bin all cast ballots, then do a physical count to ensure that the actual count of D & R ballots matches the number of each party signed out to voters.
Then I run the digital print outs and do a third comparison...we do seven printouts -- six go into sealed envelopes and the 7th is posted on the outside of the door of the polling station. If there's any discrepancy at all -- even one missed vote that can't be accounted for, requires that our station inspector call the county voting registrar who sends a representative to the now closed station and we physically recount on the spot. If the situation cannot be resolved that ballot goes into a special envelope and is treated as a conditional vote.
Our polling station Inspector (official in charge) and a Sheriff's deputy take the completed poll station package to the county official counting center where the ballots are checked & the totals verified in public (any citizen can come watch the counting) ... once certified at the county level the totals are sent by secure intranet (closed system, not the public internet) to Montgomery where the Secretary of State tallies the county-certified vote totals; compiles certified county totals and forwards preliminary totals to the national counting center. The next business day the Sheriff himself delivers the certifications sheets to the Secretary of State, who upon review certifies that county's results; compiles the state official results and forwards the data to the national counting center via closed intranet.
I would have contested that on the spot....it happened lots of places and folks just said "oh well"...and let it stand. I would have made an issue..having been a poll watcher it is amazing the fraud that occurs or they try to get away with.
Looks like we have one judge that backs the law instead of bowing to those who want to put in a fix for Hillary's run for President! Good for us bad for the out of control lawless government!!
I am glad to hear this because we have to show our ID most anyplace we go. Voting is important and we need everyone to show ID before they vote. It doesn't stop all cheating but is sure keeps those that are not citizens from voting. I agree that it is better to fill out paper forms instead of those machines.
This just shows how important votes are because whoever is President will choose many more Judges and we all know what kind Hillary will choose.
Thank Goodness for judges like this one!!
SOUNDS LIKE A BUMMER APPOINTEE
Remove the judge from the bench for conduct.
Deb -- unless I misread the article this judge supported the ID to vote requirement.
