Assuming he holds his commanding lead, Donald Trump appears headed for victory in next year's GOP primaries. But establishment Republicans don't like it. In fact, far from coming to terms with the Trump phenomena, quite the opposite may be happening, according to Columnist Byron York, who say's that some in the GOP want to destroy Trump.
It wouldn't be the first time Republicans ate their own. They did it in 2012. Offering only half-hearted support for Mitt Romney, Republicans all but assured Barack Obama a second term as President.
Never mind our opinions of either Romney or Trump. GOP mainstreamers could be setting it's bearings on a course of self-destruction in 2016 similar to the losing strategy of 2012. The spectacle of yet another round of political cannibalization could very well usher in four years of Hillary Clinton.
The GOP needs to grow up.
