Speaker John Boehner is so against raising the minimum wage that he once said he would rather commit suicide than vote for a “clean” increase.
The Ohio Republican and son of a barkeep has repeatedly opposed federally mandated hike increases, which have been a constant in the Democrats’ election-year playbook.
Boehner has “always believed that it's a job killer,” former Ohio Rep. Steve LaTourette, a labor-friendly Republican who is close to Boehner, told The Hill. He pointed to the Congressional Budget Office’s recent report that found that increasing the minimum wage could cost the economy 500,000 jobs.
Some Democrats are optimistic Boehner will cave and allow a vote this year, but the record shows there is little if any daylight between the pro-business Speaker and his conservative conference on this issue.
If you vote FOR this one, you may as well follow through on your threat.
We will see.
Boehner needs to just speak clearly about the problems of jacking up the minimum wage, especially so high. Talk of "killing myself" makes him look like an idiot and the media will show that sound-bite over & over.
maybe someone could help him,
if he needs help!
He doesn't have to be that drastic. If he would just resign that would be okay!
I'd like to see Boehner do a Harry Reid and put every bill from the Senate into his drew and close it. No thing gets done until the democrats start working with the republicans in congress. Obama has shown us that he can and will pervert any laws passed by congress, hence don't give him any until after the 2014elections and only if the republicans take the senate.
Don't let me stop you.
I'd much rather see Sarah Palin in that spot.
I agree but how do you propose she get that job?
Yes that is what he said, however watch the other hand and see what happens
Would he doing this be in atonement for his playing Obama's lapdog the last 4 years or so? Has he grown tired of the table scraps that His Highness used to throw him? I'll be he's getting hungry now that His Highness has realized that even those are no longer needed to get his way with him, so he's decided that it's time Boehner lost ALL of his weight. How long can Boehner hold out before passing off this vale of tears? Let's see - he looks to be about 220, so at 10 pounds a month or so...
Would this mean there's a chance we could get a CONSERVATIVE into his position?
(cue muffled drums, bowed heads, soft sobbing, and snickers as the cortege passes)
