BUNKERVILLE — The militiamen rolled in to draw a line in the dirt.

About 70 miles northeast of Las Vegas, they set up camp on a sun-baked patch of land next to a bend in the Virgin River, keeping supplies — like rucksacks and sleeping bags — in neat piles under the roof of an abandoned shack.

Gruff and largely unshaven, dressed in camouflage fatigues and cut-off shirts, the men kept their intentions quiet, telling news reporters the reason they pulled their trucks into this rural desert town — on one of the hottest days of the year — is simple enough: “We’re here to camp,” said one man who would not share his name.

The group even had a sign, posted for arriving members: Militia Sign In.

But they were really here to protect one of their own from the perceived enemies: a band of federal agents recently dispatched to the scrub desert to seize the cattle of embattled rancher Cliven Bundy.

“They’re here to protect Cliven’s family and home,” said Lynn Brown, one of Bundy’s daughters.

A 68-year-old Nevada native, Bundy has long been at the center of a battle with the Bureau of Land Management, the federal agency controlling the 150 miles of desert where the rancher’s cattle have roamed for decades. A renegade when it comes to any sort of government control, Bundy — the father of 14 children — has refused to pay BLM a dime of required grazing fees for his 900 cattle, a tab that has since reached $300,000. Bundy has fought the fee, he says, because his Mormon ancestors set up shop on the land long before the BLM formed.

The problem? The land where Bundy’s cattle graze is federally owned, and the BLM now says the livestock aren’t supposed to be there. Federal agents this week cordoned off sections of land and sparked a monthlong operation to seize the cattle.

Tensions boiled over this week when a scuffle between the BLM and Bundy’s supporters ended in violence: Agents reportedly used a stun gun to subdue Bundy’s son and knocked his daughter to the ground. Though called “brutal” by some, the brawl did not land anyone in a hospital or jail.

But the incident did prompt Operation Mutual Aid — a national militia with members from California to Missouri — to visit Bundy’s ranch and set up a camp just in case things got out of hand again. Before their arrival Thursday, dozens of Bundy’s friends and relatives gathered at a protest camp in solidarity for the recent woes that have colored his rustic ranch.

More using words not supported by facts - where is the proof about the 700 turtles being croaked? The link shows no evidence whatsoever.

With everything from gold to uranium , muscovite to platinum lying in the ground it’s ridiculous for the government to claim they are merely trying to protect the desert tortoise. Nobody believes it, especially when just a few months ago they killed 700 of them at the Las Vegas sanctuary in order to save money. The Bureau of Land Management currently funds the conservation and research center with fees inflicted on those who disturb tortoise habitats. During the housing boom in the early 2000s, the conservation center had plenty of cash, since developers were frequently fined for disturbing such habitats. But since the recession, the BLM has struggled to meet its annual $1 million budget.

Mangus, I found it easily by searching for BLM and Turtle!

Mangus read the article, it is in there. I could not post the whole article, too many words.

With Obama's show of arrogance to push his agenda regardless of what the people of America  want, the days grow shorter for the stand off between government military types and armed citizens. any one who has dealt with a brat child understands there is no computerize. you either stand your ground or get run over. this very well may be that day. God bless these people for their courage to stand their ground and protect our rights as citizens of America. Like the sequester in Washington when Obama said " I will not negotiate with congress, they will give me every thing i want or else!" let the games begin.

The people who are able to make this conflict go away need to do so; The federal government! We the people are the owners of the federal government, and the states; The constitution is our law exerting authority over those who administer it! We the people have not left ourselves with no authority to enforce it's administration; We have the bill of rights which gives the people authority over the administrators! When those who work for the people do not do their jobs the people are left no recourse, but force! When the constitution has been trashed/it has been, the people are no longer in control of their government, The government is in control of them! Those of you who do not recognize this will not remain free; Your liberty to act as the sovereign has been usurped by tyrants. Those who will not defend the sovereignty, will not remain free, and all their liberties will be gone. FREEDOM IS NOT FREE, AND IT'S COLOR IS RED!

Amen William

This issue is not about the turtles but rather about MONEY,  the MONEY Obama must pay back to his financial supports that he promised through the TAXPAYER'S HARD EARNED DOLLARS UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF SOLAR AND WIND ENERGY! By the way, the government is killing off many of these turtles because they are thriving in great numbers and are too much for the BLM to manage.

The solar and wind industry is killing off massive amounts of wildlife but where is the outcry from the environmentalist?  Silence!

Thanks Carolan, you are right on.  The "Greeners" are blind to anything they cause, typical koolaid drinkers from Obamaland.........

Everyone should be concerned about our environment, just as we should be alarmed at our tyrannical government.  I don't lump all the environmentalist as extremists, just a they shouldn't consider we conservatives as such.  However, I do have an issue with ranchers who use public land for free grazing of their cattle, while American taxpayers are paying for the federal land management.  And my big concern is that their will be bloodshed of innocent people who are trying to defend the ranchers.  The ranchers should keep their stock on their privately owned land, to avoid these clashes.  Fight for the land they have title to, and that will keep them busy enough.

Florida Sheriff — “I Will Not Enforce Assault Weapons Ban, Neither Will Most Sheriffs”

Dennis Lemma, who is the Sheriff in Central Florida’s Seminole County, told a group of 2nd Amendment activists recently that he would not enforce an assault weapons ban that could soon become Florida law if the “Ban Assault Weapons Now” amendment passes in the Sunshine State.

According to News965, the ban has the following specifications.

The amendment proposed in the state legislature would ban possession of assault weapons, which are defined as “semiautomatic rifles and shotguns capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition at once, either in fixed or detachable magazine, or any other ammunition feeding device.”

Lemma, an ardent supporter of the 2nd Amendment and a first term sheriff who is running for re-election, said this about whether or not he would enforce such a law.

“It’s not only that I wouldn’t, the majority of sheriffs across the state would not do it,” Lemma said in the video. It’s up to the sheriffs what they are willing to enforce.”
