UN official to Vatican: Catholic teaching on abortion may be a form of ‘torture’

During hearings that one participant described as “surreal,” United Nations representatives today suggested that the Catholic Church's opposition to abortion in the case of rape and incest constitute a violation of the UN Charter Against Torture.

The Vatican was called before a two-day hearing in Geneva so a UN committee could question whether its handling of the child sex abuse scandal violated the charter.

However, one of the two committee's two chosen spokespeople turned the questioning to the topic of abortion-on-demand.

Felice Gaer, the director of the American Jewish Committee's Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights, said the Catholic Church's 2,000-year-old doctrinal teaching on abortion may be responsible for nine-year-old rape victims giving birth.

“This committee has found repeatedly that laws that criminalize the termination of pregnancy in all circumstances can violate the terms of the convention" on torture, she said.

This marked the Vatican's first hearing before the CAT committee since it signed the Convention.

Papal Nuncio Silvano Tomasi, the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations, anticipated the question and said it was the Christian church's pro-life position that protected human rights.

“The Holy See’s goal is to prevent children from being tortured or killed before birth, as is stipulated in the Convention,” he said in an outline drawn up before the hearings. “For example, in Canada, 622 living babies were delivered after failed abortion attempts, between 2000 and 2001. 66 such cases were registered in the UK in 2005. Some methods of late-term abortions constitute forms of torture, particularly in the case of dilation a..., where 'the fetus, still alive, is dismembered to be pulled out of the womb in pieces.'”

Liberals and the UN will fight for baby seals, but not human babies in this upside down world we are living in today. Liberals and democrats have turned on the Catholics and other Christians, but still many Catholics vote for them. It is like chickens voting for Col. Sanders and impossible for me to understand. Now in CA. wearing or waving a USA flag is called racist, judge rules its illegal to wear a USA flag on Cinco de Mayo days and most minorities support the democrats and the Sanger founded planned parent Hood, go figure? Democrats are using Libertarians, Constitutional and others to divide the GOP and ensure the GOP continues to lose. In the last VA. governor race the democrats supported the Libertarian candidate who pulled 6% of the vote, while they outspent the GOP TEA PARTY guy by 14 million. The democrat only won by 2%, so think about it.

Get the USA out of the UN, and kick the UN OUT of the USA, PERIOD!

Anyone who does not agree 100% with Frank, please LEAVE and take your JIHAD with you. NWO? Not in my world!

MY OPINION , UN IS A BUNCH OF EVIL LIBERAL IDIOTS !

Since when has the UN been the boss of the Pope and Catholic Church.

POS -- the UN is a sham organization that should be kicked out of this country.

Simple Kathleen, since the UN said so!

So now the UN can control the "Church"

Get The United States out of the United Nations and get the United Nations out of the United States.

Florida Sheriff — “I Will Not Enforce Assault Weapons Ban, Neither Will Most Sheriffs”

Dennis Lemma, who is the Sheriff in Central Florida’s Seminole County, told a group of 2nd Amendment activists recently that he would not enforce an assault weapons ban that could soon become Florida law if the “Ban Assault Weapons Now” amendment passes in the Sunshine State.

According to News965, the ban has the following specifications.

The amendment proposed in the state legislature would ban possession of assault weapons, which are defined as “semiautomatic rifles and shotguns capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition at once, either in fixed or detachable magazine, or any other ammunition feeding device.”

Lemma, an ardent supporter of the 2nd Amendment and a first term sheriff who is running for re-election, said this about whether or not he would enforce such a law.

“It’s not only that I wouldn’t, the majority of sheriffs across the state would not do it,” Lemma said in the video. It’s up to the sheriffs what they are willing to enforce.”
